I can't speak for the others, but I'm gonna try to get a post up as Applejack soon, but first, I gotta take care of some posts in other RPs, whilst juggling a new schedule at work. I do hope to have another post up soon, though, so we can get the Mane5 and Cadance, and Luna over to Twilight's castle that much sooner!

 

And just a FYI: the humans haven't arrived just yet, but I'll let everyone meet up and chat a bit, then fast-forward a few days to bring the humans back into the RP...

Bumping the thread to say the RP isn't dead!

 

If you can't already tell, I have been promoted to Sectional Staff, and have putting a lot of my energy into learning my new role and carrying it out as effectively and efficiently as I can

 

Also, super long wait, super long post! Sorry if it seems rushed, but again, feel free to post your character's thoughts, dialogue, and actions as needed. I wanted to keep things moving, and get the Mane6 over to Twilight's castle -- and bring the humans in from there!

It's not so much a summons such as a polite request. I've been expecting that Luna and Celestia will have some prior knowledge of humans, but Twilight is still likely too young to have heard of them. She might have heard a vague mention or two in really old books, but nothing concrete.

 

All this is to say that she's just about as uninformed as everyone else. Luna would still be intent on inviting them all to talk to them on her own terms. (There's also some elements of nobility etiquette mixed in there, which I'll go into further in my next post.)

I'm currently roleplaying it that the Royal Sisters have prior knowledge of humans. I've thus far received no objections.

 

Well you can act on it, or but you're not necessarily required to. Twilight, as a Princess, can deny such a request. She might still feel obliged to go with it, as Luna is her elder. Plus the meeting isn't right away, intended to take place after the sunset ritual.

Actually, my intention was that this the first time ever that humans are actually discovered, let alone be made to be invited to Equestria. Before that, no Equestrian was aware of their existence...

Its during the second post, where Luna is talking to the gathered ponies and drinking tea. At one point she specifies the time.

 

The Sunset Ritual is just a random name I came up with for the process where Celestia passes the baton off to Luna at night time, where the sun sets and the moon is raised.

Okay, I passed out right after I got home, and was busy all day yesterday, sorry!

 

But, anyway....as quoted from the OP:

 

For almost a millennia, scholarly Ponies have followed the numerous teachings of Starswirl the Bearded, studying his magic and trying their hooves at his spells. One such group of scholars rediscovering a spell that opens inter dimensional portals. They perform the spell, and discover a world most wondrous and terrifying in equal measure -- the world of Humans.

 

Rather than shy away and close the portal forever, they do their best to study these creatures, growing ever more curious with each new discovery they make. They eventually make the surprising revelation that a small number of humans actually know about a little about Equestria, yet the Equestrians had no knowledge of them! Before long, a proposal is made to bring one or two through, but only ones that could pass a secret test to prove themselves worthy...

 

Whilst the scholars were following Starswirl's teachings and casting his spells for quite some time, I was hoping this would be the very first time discovering the humans and their world.

 

I also didn't want to follow the clichéd path of having the scholars bringing in humans that turn out to be hostile and want to hurt ponies. Hence the "contest".

 

However...

 

I'm willing to change it so that humans were discovered once before, just before Luna and Celestia rose to power. The magicians of the past bring a human from Earth from some time during the middle ages, but things quickly go south, as education was limited only to the wealthy and the clergy, and life was generally extremely rough for everyone during that time.

 

That human was since then sent back, and the spell hidden away for nearly a millennia, as well as the knowledge of the human's discovery, which fades into the realm of Equestrian Cryptozoology...

 

I'll try to go into more detail about this idea, after some much needed sleep, but I wanna hear if you guys like this idea as well!

Given the alternate scenario presented, it is not an overly large question.

 

He did say that all knowledge of the human and the spell used was hidden away.

Given the time span, it might be plausible that the Princesses caught wind of it, and retained the knowledge since it couldn't exactly be wiped from their minds.

 

Twilight wouldn't have been present, and with no writings on the matter remaining, would have no knowledge. Of course, one or two shards could possibly remain. Nothing concrete.

Honestly, I don't think we should change the premise, since everyone has already been working under the original assumption. Plus the whole "the Princesses are hiding something" is a bit cliched as well.

I wanted to stay with the original idea as well, but it seems that everyone else has the idea that they were discovered before, and on top of that, they turned out to be dangerous.

 

But it has been a thousand years. Colette is more than likely gonna disappoint Luna, at least, for she more than likely won't meet the princess's expectations. I usually don't like to speak for others when they can speak for themselves, but I will wager Alex will do the same!

 

With that, I'm gonna work on a post until I fall asleep, wake up, then work on it some more!

I'd just assumed it was the fear of something they didn't understand, which is a perfectly natural reaction. Dunno where the thing about humans were encountered before thing came from, at least until HigurSan brought it up here. Maybe I need to go back through the RP, but I think just about everyone has acted as though humans are being encountered for the first time. I could be wrong, but that was how it looked when I last checked.

 

Besides, on a less story-related note, it seems a little late to change it now when this has been going on for a while.

While it may have been a while for us, from what I can tell, not a lot has actually gone on in the roleplay yet. In the course of events, we're still in the beginning. So changing a premise ought not to be totally damaging in just that respect.

That may be true, but the alteration goes against the original intent of the RP and having the Princesses hide information about humans sets up various political stuff that could well overwhelm the basic premise of humans interacting with ponies. As far as I'm aware, this RP was meant to be slice of life fun watching humans and Equestrians trying to get along. Why do we need to add extra seriousness when the humans may already provide that? For example, Alex might feel homesick and the drama could come from that instead of "The Princesses lied about humans".

I suppose this could be true. Though I didn't personally get quite the 'slice of life' sense. Perhaps that's because of my understanding of what that genre is. (Namely, that nothing 'serious' happens in SoL's. Humans would look kind of serious in my eye.) If I'm wrong about that, I'll adjust my perception and writing accordingly.

That post was meant to pretty much have Applejack respond or react to each of the other characters; I included their dialogue because it makes it easier for me, and some others, to keep track of who my characters are responding to, without having to go back to find what was previously said or done.

 

And @Windbreaker hit the nail on the head! This particular RP is supposed to be somewhat lighthearted in tone, without the usual fare of "Humans are Bastards Who Destroy Everything They See!™"

 

Don't get me wrong! There's a surplus of bastard humans, but not every human is like that, and I wanted to explore the idea of somewhat ordinary humans experiencing Equestrian life.

I'm not a big fan of 'humans in Equestria' but at the suggestions of Corona de Adamas, I would like to offer my application for Princess Celestia. It is formatted as you have asked, at least mostly so, so there shouldn't be any problems with that..

 

I offer a great amount of detail when it comes to character sheets, and I have a number of people who can voice for my experience playing the diarch of the sun. I can also point you to a few of the threads I am a part of... though I am a bit worried in how often I can post a week. I am willing to try this roleplay out though, despite some doubts I have in doing so,

My thoughts on the subject of whether or not humans have gone to the world of My Little Pony before should be limited to the three human children who found themselves in a place called Dream Valley in ancient times, helping the ponies there against many threats. Apart from this, which would only be marked in the oldest myths, I feel it is better for there to not be any other human known by any living pony or record.

Perhaps the princesses know of the humans because of knowing of the spell, and in the wish to be careful on who can goes to Equestria the contest is set up so that those best suited to going to the world of ponies. Really, something like this is the only way a contest being setup makes much sense because there is a suggestion of being careful.

 

Or, another idea, is that the ponies who learned of the spell studies humans in their world for a time before deciding on allowing some into Equesria. This to would allow for the hint of caution while also allowing for there to there not being any humans in recorded history, setting up the contest to find the right humans.

Mrm. Problem is that I've already made a couple of posts as Luna, under the (apparently wrong) assumption that the Princesses had some prior knowledge of humans, and that the two that the roleplay will revolve around were brought in without them knowing about it. Under this assumption, I've set up that Luna has a heavy dislike for humans and that she is (in private) about to go ballistic that a bunch of scientists went and opened up a proverbial Pandora's box.

 

Whereas now it has been clarified to me to be more like: these are the first humans ever known about in Equestria, it's meant to be more light hearted, and will follow more of a SoL plotline.

 

With that in mind, I've found out that my previous posts are heavily flawed.
