Hello everyone, I am just gonna go straight to the point here. I am doing a assignment for my school about interviews and as part of that I am going to make my own little interview. So basically if you feel like doing the survey/interview you can either just reply in the post itself or simply use the questions as a template and send them to me as a message if you dont want it to be shown in public on the forum.

I really appreciate anyone who does the survey. Do note that the only people that will see the interview outside of this forum is myself and my teacher, no one else. I wont use your nicknames in the report i will only do a overview and analysis of the questions. I will however include a link to this thread for my teacher as source material.

1. Age: 24

2. Gender: Male

3. Country: United States of 'Murica

4. When did you become a brony, and how? January 2015. I was on guard duty and one of my colleagues had the Rainbow Dash vs Starscream death battle pulled up. I was intrigued, so I went home and found MLP on netflix. Stuck ever since.

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? Too far in the closet to fully participate in. Most I do is share pictures on forums such as this.

6. How open are you about being a brony? So far in the closet I'm in Narnia and Aslan is searching for me.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that? My job. I'm in the military and I have some rank, and I need my subordinates respect, and the military doesn't respect Bronies.

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Have you seen the other trash on TV? Enough Said. I'll take a show with a plot and values over Dog with a blog anyday (only reason I know the show is I turn it on for my beagle when I leave for work)

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom? Everybody accepts everybody regardless of where we came from and who we are.

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? I hope so. If MLP is still alive 10 years from now then yes, I'll be supporting the community.

Age

I am sixteen years old.

Gender

I am female.

Country

I am from Australia.

When did you become a brony, and how?

I've became a brony around May 2012. After marathoning Season 1 and Season 2, I decided to see what else it had to offer.

What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc)

I'll participate in anything, from Youtube to fanmade games to fanfiction. But primarily, I give my share by drawing fanart of other people's OCs/fancharacters.

How open are you about being a brony?

Not too open. If I do see another brony, I would at least say hello, but that even makes me nervous.

If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?

It's mostly because I'm afraid of being insulted by others. It doesn't help that in past experiences I've been constantly insulted by others for liking other things that would be considered "childish".

What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

The stories, the characters and the art style. But mostly the art style. To give an example, all of the Mane 6 have different manestyles and different colour palettes. Making the characters look different is a must in character designing, but what also works is that their designs are simple. It's some of the best I've seen in a cartoon.

What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?

How welcoming the people are. All of the previous fandoms I've been in are either too small or too cynical. Seeing a more active and friendlier fandom is such a breath of fresh air. Not just that, but I also like the amount of fanmade content the fandom produces. Sure, not all of it is amazing, but I still applaud the fandom for their hard work and effort.

Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?

Unfortunately, I can't see myself as a brony in 10 years time. Considering that I'm getting more and more nervous with admitting to others that I'm a fan of the show, as well as that I'm growing up, I don't think I'll have the time to be in the fandom. Even so, I would still be thankful for how fun it was being a brony.

1. Age

    I am 15 years old, almost 16 =)

2. Gender

    I am male

3. Country

The glorious country of England, UK =D

4. When did you become a brony, and how?

About halfway through season 4. After working on a project with a friend based around the show's following, I ended up finding fan music on youtube and such. I enjoyed a lot of the fandom's music long before trying the show but eventually looked at it and never looked back =D

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc)

I participate in everything pretty much! I make music, watch MLP videos, write fanfiction, voice act and regularly browse brony websites!

6. How open are you about being a brony?

Most people I know are aware of it. I'm happy to tell people about it but don't shove it down other's throats.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

I think the show has some quality writing, good morals and has such positive themes. It makes me happy when I watch it and because of the well developed characters, I can connect with the protagonists' daily struggles easily =D

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?

It's one of the most welcoming I've ever been and everyone is really friendly, no matter your gender, sexuality or views on things. It's clear the show's principles rub off on the fandom making it one of the most positive around and there's a real feel of unity in it because of that.

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?

Well I know that FiM will still hold a place in my heart and all the friends I've met here, I will want to stay in contact with. Whether I'll recognise as a brony anymore really depends on whether FiM is still going 10 years from now or if the next generation of my little pony is just as good if not better =D

1. Age: 18

2. Gender: Male

3. Country: England

4. When did you become a brony, and how?: I became a brony about November 2014, having gotten hooked on the show very quickly after stumbling upon a few clips of it on YouTube.

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc): I listen to music and read fanfics of the series too, as well as checking out the fan art and watching a few videos about it.

6. How open are you about being a brony?: I don't really mention being a brony or wear anything that would suggest I am one, unless someone were to ask me about it, in which case I'd be open about being a fan of the show.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?: Unless people ask about it, I don't really see any need to bring it up in conversation.

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?: It has a lot of positivity and optimism that is also believable, which seems to be very rare for television nowadays. The characters are also very relatable to me, and the lessons the show looks into are valuable and applicable, even to an audience my age.

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?: There's a lot of open-mindedness in this fandom, which is to be expected when it revolves around a show intended for a very different age group (and gender too, for the male viewers). I also love how kind and warm the fandom's atmosphere seems to be; I've never known a community to be this welcoming and friendly, and it's very refreshing to even just know it exists, let alone be a part of it.

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?: I'll still consider myself a brony even then; the fandom's had such a huge impact on me and my hopefulness, and I doubt time is ever going to change that.

Back in September 2012 when a friend that I used to play games with introduced me to the show.

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc)

I create fanart and a little bit of music.

6. How open are you about being a brony?

Not very open, I don't tell anyone irl.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?

Because it's embarrassing. Even as a girl.

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

Not much now, I barely watch the show anymore. I originally liked it because of the interesting slice-of-life stories.

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?

The constant feel of homeliness and belonging. And the constant stream of fan content.

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?

No, I won't be a brony. I barely even consider myself one now as I'm not a huge participant in the fandom anymore. I've gotten bored of the show and I pretty much only hang out on this site because I've made some great friends on here.

Age 18

United States

December 2014 On my own accord through remembering "those weird people who like my little pony". I decide to download the show and watch the first six episodes as I got off to winter break from the first sememster of school and one thing led to another and enjoyed I more and more and I identifyed myself as a brony in January.

5 YouTube sometimes and art but I don't participate in music or any other content

6 I am willing and open about it if people ask/ notice. I have a pony shirt I wear openly in public and make no effort to hide it when I out. But I don't actively say it.

7 I do tell poeple but if I didn't it would be because it's embarassing. Brony just has a stigma attached to it. From the pervasive every brony is a clopper (which I find disgusting but the statement is untrue) to a guy liking mlp that would be the reason

8 honestly. I have no idea. I watched the first episode and almost was immediately wanting to finish the episode and watch more. Why that was appealing is beyond me.

9 the people who have a mutual interest in a show that's hard to discuss among people who don't like it.

10 hard to say, yes most likely. I do go through phases of things I get somewhat obsessed with but the ones I do are at the forefront of my thought before they just integrate themselves into the fabric of who I am

1. Age: 16

2. Gender: male

3. Country: England

4. When did you become a brony, and how?: March 2014, was searching the internet and remember my friend criticizing bronies, so I thought I'd look it up, one week later I had watched seasons one, two, and three. watched four as it came out I think, it might have been halfway through the season (sorry memory of this is quite hazy)

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? I listen to music, read fanfiction, watch youtube videos, draw and look at art and am contemplating writing my own fanfiction.

6. How open are you about being a brony? Fine on the internet or to strangers, my family and friends, or anyone I know do not know apart from my best friend.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that? Family is very judgmental, dad is borderline bipolar and hates anything 'nerdy' (he already considers me a nerd, and consequently does not like me much). My friends are very judgmental (not nice people, going to stop speaking to them once I leave school), I live in a rural area with very backwards beliefs, so people already think I'm weird as I don't go to church (I'm atheist) just a very judgmental place, will be more open about it once I leave home.

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? The art style, the music and the writing, I enjoy the story, the art appeals to me a lot as well.

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom? The friendliness, everyone is so accepting and we have some very skilled artists/songwriters/writers.

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not? Yes, I do not care about what other people will think, as once I leave home I think I shall only become more of a brony over time as I will be away from my family and old friends. Over time I think that the appeal will grow for me.

I hope that this helps, good luck with your project.

1. Age

20

2. Gender

MtF transgender

3. Country

USA

4. When did you become a brony, and how?

Being trans, I've always been into more effeminate things, and before I was open to being trans, I saw the emerging MLP fandom (which was mostly made up of men) as an excuse to finally be able to watch something so effeminate while providing me a good enough excuse to not draw attention to myself for watching it.

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc)

I'm writing a MLP Pathfinder campaign, which I guess counts as kind of a playable RPG fanfiction. However, it's nowhere near completed yet, and it hasn't been published anywhere for the public to use...... yet.....

6. How open are you about being a brony?

Open to pretty much anypony but the ones I know who would be against it and I would have to deal with on a regular basis (i.e. parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and some cousins in my old fashioned family), however anypony else (brother, other cousins, friends, general people who I don't have a relation to and don't care what they think of me) I'm pretty open to.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?

The only people I really keep it secret from are certain family members. I live in a very old fashioned family, and while some are more accepting of these kinds of things, others are not. And telling the people who are less than accepting would not be a good idea since I have to deal with family whenever they come over.

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

At first, I just saw it as an opportunity to just try something effeminate without arousing suspicion due to the massive amounts of men that watch the show, however, I now love it for pretty much everything that it is. It's cute, the characters are well developed, there's a large amount of world-building that has accumulated over the show, the message is one that more people really need to learn (that friendship is the ultimate power, and that the bonds of people are their true strengths), and the stories are just plain entertaining.

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?

We're dedicated to the show. We not only show that we like the show, but we act as the show encourages. Bronies are some of the most welcoming, open-minded, and supporting people you'll ever meet (with some exceptions, of course). Not to mention all the cool things we've done, such as starting conventions, made music, made this very forum website, and even influenced the show itself (Such as creating enough demand for a MLP comic book series, and pretty much making Derpy a character)

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?

Totally! MLP is more than just a show to my friends and I, it's sort of become part of my way of life (As well as my friend's). Our bonds we share are as strong as the bonds the mane 6 share with each other in the show, and MLP is just one more of those things that we all love that draws us even closer together.

2: Male

3: North America

4: I became a brony during the fall of 2014, after my brony brother talked me into looking up MLP on Know Your Meme, and later giving it a try after my Al, someone I play D&D with, told me that at first it's ok, but gets better later on, and I don't regret it.

5: I watch videos, create fan art and, hopefully in the future, create a comic of the Rainbow Factory and my OC, Ironhide.

6: I give hints every now and then, and willing to let others know about it.

7: I still find it hard to believe that we watch a show targeted to little girl's show, so I can see why people would hide it.

8: It has good characters and villains, nice plot (story, not body), good humor, good lessons, and great animation. I also enjoy the darker moments of the show, the comics are fun (the good ones), and the fandom.

9: Different people having fun, being with you guys, and that we have have art and fics from the light, heartwarming to the dark and depression, and everything in between.

10: Yes, I may like some parts, and hate others, but in the end, it is enjoyable, and have fond memories of FIM. Many grown men still enjoy Pokemon after over ten years, so why not this?

4. When did you become a brony, and how?

I first watched the show in summer 2011, eventually slipped in to marathoning the whole series in a week and being hype about season 2.

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc)

Usually just youtube videos and fanart, fanfiction on rare occasions.

6. How open are you about being a brony?

Everyone knows, nobody cares.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?

~~

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

I love slice of life anime and cartoons, what really made me stay through 4 seasons was the characters though.

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?

I have met people in the fandom I really don't like, I've heard of people in the fandom that I really honestly would rather sell my right arm on the black market than meet and introduce myself to and spend longer than 10 seconds around, but out of everyone I HAVE met in the fandom, not a single one was mean or impolite to me. Annoying and frustrating to be around, maybe, but not particularly rude or impolite or intolerant.

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?

I actually don't even consider myself one now. I might come round to calling myself one again but as for now I'm more comfortable with the weeaboo label.

In 10 years, most likely no.

4. When did you become a brony, and how?

-Back around June 2011, was sent a song from the show on youtube (Winter Wrap Up) As a joke.  Later on while thinking about the song I thought it was catchy and couldn't keep it out of my head.  Went back later and listened to it a lot while I was doing some other stuff.  I figured I would give the show a chance, and went on a marathon where I watched the whole show in a week (Was just season 1 at the time).  Found a bunch of stuff made by people in the fandom and fell in love with the whole thing.

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc)

-I listen to a lot of music, watch a lot of youtube, and look at a lot of art (and draw some too).

6. How open are you about being a brony?

-I dont hide it from anyone, it's all over my profiles online and my room, and a few pieces of clothing I wear sometimes.  When someone asks about it, I discuss it with them and talk about it.  But I dont go out of my way to tell people about it the first time we meet, unless they bring it up of course.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?

- Non-applicable

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

-I really like the quality in animation and how bright and vibrant everything is in it.  The music in the show is lovely.  And I enjoy the care that goes into everything about it.  Whole thing is great, GREAT.

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?

-I love how everyone is so nice and welcoming, no matter who in it I talk to in it there is always a common interest and a feeling of kinship between us.  It's just wonderful how great everyone can be in this fandom.

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?

-Absolutely!  Even if the show were to end, and I didn't know anyone else in the fandom, it will still have been a huge part in my life and helped me to meet some fantastic people and have some equally great experiences.  I feel like this is always going to be a part of me.

4. When did you become a brony, and how?

My fascination and sudden enjoyment of the show began about a 6 months ago. One of my friends from school, an artist on deviantart and tumblr, was showing me some of her works which included furry, anime, and pony art. When I saw some of her pony art I asked her what her inspiration was. My friend started talking about the show My Little Pony Friendship is Magic and how well put together and funny it was. I suddenly curious and went to ask my guy friends about the show. Their responses were just negative, telling me to stay away from it entirely and that it was for "fags and homos." After their responses I decided to let my own curiosity get the better of me and started watching the first episode. When the theme song rolled in I thought: “What am I doing with my life and why am I watching this stupid show?” For some odd reason I felt the urge to continue. After the first 2 part episode I couldn’t stop watching and started enjoying the show despite my friend’s opinions. Now as I have watched both seasons I can say I love it. (My favorite part is all of the humor and hidden references in the show that manage to put a smile on my face.) I have also been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and Mlp is that sort of happy place for me. It always calms me and brings warmth to my heart.

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc)

I have watched many pmvs and read some fanfics like My Little Dashie. Some of my favorite music is brony music from brony artists.

6. How open are you about being a brony?

I am mostly open to my friends and some of my colleagues but I never mention it around my family after an incident.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?

My parents on the other hand don't want me to have anything to do with the Herd, they say it’s for little girls and represents gays. (Which I don’t have a problem with) I recently asked for a Fluttershy t- shirt but they instantly said no because they don’t like “Feminine themes on males” and that the fandom began on a “Bad” place like 4chan and Tumblr. I do not get why they don’t want me interacting with a amazing group of people who share the same interest. I tried to explain that it’s a family show and is clean with good morals but they won’t budge. I decided to reside in a place like these forums in secret to find a group of reasonable understanding people. I sadly may not be getting that shirt anytime soon but I won’t back down to others, my will is stronger than anything they do to hurt me. I really am angered at them for this because they are wondering why I am depressed and at the same time are banning me from getting anything that helps me sadness.

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

I am in love with the characters and how much I can relate to them. Everything about them is adorable and it just makes feel happy no matter how sad I am. Equestria is honestly the closest thing I can find for a place to spend the rest of eternity.

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?

I love all of the kind community and the creativity involved. These people have been so accepting despite all of my flaws and sadness in life. All of the talented people in the fandom I look up to a lot. I really hope one day when I break free of my parent's chains I can attend a convention and unleash who I really am inside, not who they tell me to be.

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?

If the show goes on for that long I will sure be. I know the community will always be here even if the show is off the air. I will always treasure everypony here and the show itself.

Thank you for your time! :D

4. When did you become a brony, and how?

December 2013. I was bored, and looked up ponies (which I remembered vaguely hearing about) on Netflix. And then... you know the drill.

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc)

I've listened to a bit of music, watched plenty of youtube videos, looked at plenty of art. I've also drawn one or two things, and I both read and write fanfics.

6. How open are you about being a brony?

Moderately. I don't try to hide it, but don't really advertise it much (usually). Basically: I'm no missionary, but I do what I want.

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?

N/A

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

It's got a great message, which is special enough, but it's also brilliantly executed. Well-designed characters, a ton of world-builidng potential, good music... also, pretty rainbows.

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?

It's an unfailing source of friendship and love and all good things, in an increasingly uncivil world. Also, cool art.

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?

Maybe - it depends on the state of the community. Being a brony, to me, is as much about the rest of the community as it is about me. So I'll be a brony if the community's still there. If it's not... well, I'll at least still have some friends.

It's a bug and a feature!

4. When did you become a brony, and how? I became a Brony around the time the season 2 finale (Canterlot wedding) was the latest episode/being talked about the most. I was curious as to what made the show so good, since, in my eyes, even though the show had adult male fans (Which never bothered me in the first place.), That to me just meant that it must have been a real good show. So I decided to watch an episode and see what made it so good.

I watched the next episode.

Then I decided I'd better watch the next episode..

And so on and so forth,

while I was busy being sidetracked, I remembered that I was just trying to see what was so good about the show. I then came to the conclusion that I had become a Brony, and continued watching more episodes. ^.^

5. What forms of fancontent do you participate in, if any? (music, watching youtube videos, fanfiction, etc)

Currently, mostly music and some youtube videos. I am interested in reading some fanfiction though....

6. How open are you about being a brony?

Not entirely open. I'm not about to go telling just anyone that I'm a Brony because of all the stigma attached to that title. XD

I am comfortable in telling family members who I am close too. Nothing bad has come out of that. But other people? Nah...

7. If you are not telling people in real life that you are a brony, could you explain the cause for that?

As I stated above: LOTS of stigma attached to it. Too many narrow-minded jerks in the world...XD

8. What do you find appealing about the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

I enjoy the characters, nice story....

Pretty much what everyone else enjoys about the show. It's just a good show. ^.^

9. What do you find appealing about the brony fandom?

That it tends to be a friendly fandom (At least most of the time.), I enjoy all the fan-made stuff like music, various youtube videos, plushies/figures that actually look the way they're supposed to unlike certain official toys we all know of...e.e

10. Do you think you will consider yourself a brony in 10 years? Why, why not?

Yep, I do.

Why? Well, why not?
