gaming Microsoft, Sony & Nintendo: Who will survive the longest?

Tom Snyder

none of them are showing any signs of death..... but to be honest I think Microsoft would survive the longest since they're worth more than Sony and Nintendo combined...

but it'd be a shame to see any of them die since those three were my childhood....

5. Sega - Boy I would love to see Sega get back into it! Their d-pad just rocks! Add two joy sticks to it and you have yourself a game console that can compete with the above.

When you add the second analog stick, you get an Xbox controller.

The layout could be made different from any other controller. But I'm not one to share ideas to its full extent. It already has 6 face buttons going for it.

No, what I'm saying is the Dream cast and Xbox Controllers were literally the same, except Microsoft added black and white as well as the second joystick. That's all the difference was.

The controllers are all the same to me, if you play a game with them; then it won't matter.

I know, but i do stand by what i said before. You can say anything you wish about a controller; but in the end its the same thing. The difference is the size and what your preference is, and people complaining about how a controller feels; well lets just say if they don't like it, then have one custom made for you.

My brother had a controller with bullet shells as the buttons, and the gun trigger as the replacement for the ones on the controller.

You kiddin' me? Sony's been bleeding money every single day, they've been selling brands and divisions to try to reduce the amount of money they're losing (often to little avail) and their credit rating was downgraded to "Junk" last year. If anything, they'll be the first to go. That being said, I doubt they'd let the PlayStation brand die. Most likely they'll spin it off into its own company.

Oh I should have been more specific in my original post. I was talking about the Sega Saturn and Genesis controller. I never played on the Dream Cast.

Who cares? Just play the damn games and stop worrying about the computers (because every single console is a computer) that are running your games. I'm getting sick and tired of this elitism on both sides.

I'm just curious, so i asked; is that such a bad thing?

Don't know about Lain's opinion, but I might as well as throwing some 2 bits on this.

Ever since the "Master Race" was invented, more and more people has been switching to PC for its numerous advantage, like PC Exclusive, 60p graphics, Emulators (Not sure this one is true), etc. The whole "Race" is taunting the consoles(PS4 and Xbone) since they have a disadvantage in some areas. Naturally, the consoles fights back. Since the PC Race personality has been changed over time into Elitist, which is ALWAYS a bad thing, consoles follow suit, resulting in an never ending war. Nintendo barely take part in this conflict since they are looked down by the other major consoles.

Of course, there will always be minorities in both sides (like me) that doesn't care about this "war". They buy their respective gaming platform to have fun, to be entertained. Over time, the minorities will hate the respective gaming platform's people because of the pointless war, which only taint their identity.

ITT: I think Nintendo will survive the longest. They are successful since they have crap ton of franchise and a lot more in their sleeves, waiting to be rebooted. Also, Nintendo makes DLC correctly.

To be honest, I don't really worry about it. Microsoft could stop making consoles tomorrow and it wouldn't bother me. The only time I ever played one of their machines was when a friend gave me an old Xbox for free. Sony's just there. The PS2 was amazing but they're not doing anything to really grab my attention now. Nintendo is the only console maker I still have feelings about. Their systems introduced me to gaming, so I hope they stick around for a long time.

I miss Sega's machines. I have as much fun playing on the Genesis or Dreamcast as any modern console.

I got to play the Wii before, and i enjoyed it. I just don't like the approach Nintendo is taking with LPer's; they help advertise their games through playing them to the world(there's really no harm in it).

Nintendo.

'Cus they were founded in 1889

Okay, but what reason besides that is there for you to say that? Why do you think they will; what you said was not a good reason why they would. Even if they were the established, it doesn't make the point you're trying to make.

You asked who would survive the longest, and It's nintendo. Because they've survived 120 years or so.

The've already lasted the longest. Now it's just how long before one of them ends.

I think you're overstating the years they've been around. But yeah, but they've become less popular with thier actions, the Wii U was a failure from the start; but hopefully they stop the childish actions and let LPers help advertise their games with actual gameplay. This is ignorance on their part, as they fail to realize the potential of such a thing.

  • 2 weeks later...

well, frankly both Playstation and PC 'fanboys' just make my opinion of the two platforms incredibly negative and I have never been into Nintendo or it's games.

I just stick with Microsoft stuff as it makes things easier. Started off with the old xbox and just kept with the brand. Today, I have the Xbox One, Windows 8 and a Nokia Windows Phone which, when put together, make for good combined technology. Purely because of the amount of tech Microsoft covers is why I'd say it'll survive the longest. Sony just always seems to be on the down as of recent, which is a shame, I guess.

Nintendo Easy. They already have several decades on the other two, and their backup profits from ventures past eclipse what the other two have,

That being said, Sony and Microsoft also aren't dedicated to gaming alone, so while their gaming branches may die, they'll still be around for awhile too. But IMO not for 50 more years.

I'm pretty sure OnLive will be the first to go.

Oh, wait... that happened last week. Dammit! I always dreamed of being a world renowned fortune teller. So much for that.

Online play will still be a thing, but they must all try to keep up with one another.
