Why do alicorns have longer horns than unicorns?

Hi, I don't really know much about mlp at the moment so sorry if this is a *really* stupid question

 

But why do alicorns have longer horns than normal unicorns? When my friend was making a felt horn for my Twilight costume she used the alicorn tutorial, which meant it was longer, and I was wondering why this was

 

Again, sorry if this is a really stupid question xD

Pretty sure the reason for their longer horns is because alicorns are much more powerful than regular unicorns (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).  And also age as the others said down below.

 

And if your topic is in the wrong section then the moderators will move it to the correct one.  From what I've seen the moderators are very polite and friendly here about things like that

I don't think Twilight's horn grew any bigger after she became alicorn.

I think the horn is more related to their age

I think it is in ratio to height, unicorn or alicorn. Twilight's is pretty short, but taller ponies (Fleur, Cadence), have longer horns. Celestia's is the biggest because she is the tallest pony to date.

Their horns seem to grow exponentially as they do; Twilight's horn is just slightly longer as she is slightly taller as an Alicorn. Cadance and Luna are roughly the same size and their horns are much longer than Twilight's. Celestia is much taller than anypony else, so her horn is much longer as well. Their wings also seem to reflect that. But it's not just limited to Alicorns; compare sizes between Twilight and Shining Armor; he's a lot taller and his horn is a lot longer.

Could be something that comes with age or could be something related to magic usage. Like Celestia's horn could be bigger because she has to raise the sun every single day,
