Master Eraqus in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.

Arguably the first Light-based "villain" so far, and he's even a sympathetic one--if "balance" means constantly being exposed to such a dangerous Darkness that we've seen time and time again, then "tyranny of Light" honestly sounds far better. And while he does go too far in the end--albeit out of reluctant desperation rather than any malice--he ultimately makes amends in his final moments by sending his Heart into Terra to give him enough extra Light to break free from Master Xehanort's possession (which will almost assuredly take effect by Kingdom Hearts III).

The original and Brotherhood Hughes death was hard for me because he was my favorite character of the entire series...

Kamina & Nia from Gurren Lagann too I will post here. The ending for Nia was so sad because Simon he deserved to be happy with her after all he went through.

Ok, I have a list.  The first would be Heather O'Rourke, who was the little blonde girl in the original Poltergeist...one of my favorite movies.  But it was the actor, not the character that she played who died a very unexpected death.  There are a lot of characters from The Walking Dead who have been munched on by zombies, but the one that had me most upset was the original moral compass of the group, Dale.

Ludger from Tales of Xillia 2: I wish he could have lived on to raise his own daughter. After all, he did everything in his power to protect her, even if it meant going against impossible odds. He may have been one of those sort of silent protagonists, but he was a damn good father.

Marie from Skullgirls:  I take pity on her. She's just a very sad and pissed off girl who wants revenge on the mafia for not only treating her like crap, but for "killing" her best friend. She basically sold her soul to the devil to accomplish this goal. While Marie has immense power, she is slowly transforming into the next Skullgirl. Poor thing.

CFW Brave from Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: I quite liked this guy. He had honor, for starters. When he lost the first time, he took it well and left Lastation in peace. He also wanted the same thing the heroines wanted, but just went about it in a different way. Out of all the CFWs, he was the one I respected the most. He fought for the future of Gameindustri's children. That's a noble goal right there.
