Master Eraqus in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.

Arguably the first Light-based "villain" so far, and he's even a sympathetic one--if "balance" means constantly being exposed to such a dangerous Darkness that we've seen time and time again, then "tyranny of Light" honestly sounds far better. And while he does go too far in the end--albeit out of reluctant desperation rather than any malice--he ultimately makes amends in his final moments by sending his Heart into Terra to give him enough extra Light to break free from Master Xehanort's possession (which will almost assuredly take effect by Kingdom Hearts III).

John Marston of Red Dead Redemption - as you progress through the game, you'll start to see the game world change into a bit of a more industrial society, with John being shot down by the government at the end symbolizing the death of the Wild West

Lee Everett of Telltale's TWD game - Depending on what choice you make in the final moments of the last episode, Clementine shoots him in the head to prevent him from turning into a Walker

Jay Gatsby of The Great Gatsby book - George Wilson mistaken Gatsby for being in an affair with his now dead wife, Myrtle, and to his mansion and shot him when he was swimming, before George himself committed suicide

The original and Brotherhood Hughes death was hard for me because he was my favorite character of the entire series...

Kamina & Nia from Gurren Lagann too I will post here. The ending for Nia was so sad because Simon he deserved to be happy with her after all he went through.

Ok, I have a list.  The first would be Heather O'Rourke, who was the little blonde girl in the original Poltergeist...one of my favorite movies.  But it was the actor, not the character that she played who died a very unexpected death.  There are a lot of characters from The Walking Dead who have been munched on by zombies, but the one that had me most upset was the original moral compass of the group, Dale.

Ludger from Tales of Xillia 2: I wish he could have lived on to raise his own daughter. After all, he did everything in his power to protect her, even if it meant going against impossible odds. He may have been one of those sort of silent protagonists, but he was a damn good father.

Marie from Skullgirls:  I take pity on her. She's just a very sad and pissed off girl who wants revenge on the mafia for not only treating her like crap, but for "killing" her best friend. She basically sold her soul to the devil to accomplish this goal. While Marie has immense power, she is slowly transforming into the next Skullgirl. Poor thing.

CFW Brave from Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: I quite liked this guy. He had honor, for starters. When he lost the first time, he took it well and left Lastation in peace. He also wanted the same thing the heroines wanted, but just went about it in a different way. Out of all the CFWs, he was the one I respected the most. He fought for the future of Gameindustri's children. That's a noble goal right there.

Every post should have a spoiler lol.

Eddark Stark from Game of Thrones / ASoIaF.  I saw the first two seasons before I started reading the books; it was tougher reading A Game of Thrones knowing what happened to Ned.  How did he die?  Decapitated at the order of a pathetic, cowardly, evil little bitch named Joffrey.  How'd I feel?  Not good; though I half expected it during that episode.

L from Death Note.  The way he died was...

Light essentially manipulated Rem (Misa's Shinigami) into writing L's name (among others) in her Death Note.  Causing L to suffer a fatal heart attack and offing herself in the process.  How'd I feel?  I sure as hell didn't want Light to get his way.

The T-101 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day.  Realizing that he contained a chip that needed to be destroyed in order to prevent the arrival of Judgment Day, he had Connor (Sarah, I believe) lower him slowly to a molten death.  It sucked.  It made sense, sort of, but it sucked.  And T3 still happened so WTF?!? xD
