Yup its canon but since when has that stopped anything? For every headcannon this episode destroyed, new ones instantly take their place. Kinda like the conservation of energy thing XD

I take it as canon until the staff or show says otherwise, now maybe future episodes may not refer back to the events of this one, but it is as canon as any other episode.

I'm not sure which headcanons have been destroyed? Honestly I was hoping for more time with other characters, but I guess that might have made the episode too messy.

Survey says.........

You'd find more mixed results from a poll asking if you'd want to low crawl through glass and fire ants.

Glad to see this site generally isn't one of those fringe havens for people who think something isn't canon simply because they don't like it.

Oh yeah it totally had a plot, but it was still unadulterated madness.

Tavi and Vinyl bust through the front of their house on a friggin wubmobile, literally jumping a shark plushie in the street before scooping up every background character in the show and carrying them to the gazebo, and then crash because they ran over the Twilicane.

That sounds like My Little Pony mad libs!! XD

You forgot that foal was spinning on the record player (yes sadly I know that meme).

And yes... it's all canon now. Get ready to see more of it.

It's not April"Foals."

While it happened in the show, it will more than likely not have any bearing on any future plots and episodes. Like a lot have said, a one time thing.

In that regard...it's canon, but can probably be easily ignored for those who didn't care for it

It is canon, it was a giant fanservice, but it is canon really. it's not like spongebob for example where it is back to the same every episode, other than two parters.

The animator team will surely learn more about bg ponies so it may have some bearing for future episodes. Like Doctor hanging out with Derpy instead just Roseluck or Lyra and BonBon having more innuendos like having them in the background eating at the restaurant with candles XD

Adored everything here... Technically YES it's canon just on the basis that it's official/"first source" material... I was watching and in my mind I said "This is bordering facfic" but either way it's canon.

Someone mentioned "A" and "B" canon in another thread-  A-canon being stuff that's definite and sortable, like Episode 1/1, the events of MCM, etc, and then B-canon is basically every other episode that doesn't significantly bear on the overall plot, nor have a definite location in the overall timeline

Either way I think the episode was actually worth waiting 3 weeks for, and I'm sure many may disagree but I stand by that.

This is rude but OP is making no sense. It's an official episode from the show so it is canon whether you like or not.

My point is that yes it's an official episode from the show, but is it really to be taken seriously if no one making it took it seriously?

If it all one big crazy joke, is it really canon? What if nothing in it comes back again?

That was sort of my reaction to it:

"OMG THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER!!"

And then when it was over I took a deep breathe and said, "That was INSANE and I can't take it seriously at all."

It is canon.

But when has anything as trivial as official canon ever stopped a fandom from doing whatever it pleases?  As far as I can tell the writers didn't really damage much in the way of fan-canon so much as they made a lot of the more popular aspects of it official.

And yet, some fans will continue to ship their favorite pairs regardless of what the writers/directors say. Others will refuse to call certain ponies by their official names despite what appears in the credits.

So yeah, it's all canon now.  Whether or not you choose to accept it is up to you.

Wrong! They were clearly joking, because the shipping fuel was undeniable. Even little kids that watch this episode are going to know they're lesbians. There's no point in trying to deny it anymore.

They know that Hasbro will get mad if they directly state the lesbian stuff so, they made it as obvious as possible for a kid cartoon and then denied it as a joke on Twitter. This way everyone knows they're lesbians and Hasbro can't fire them, because they still denied it despite making it as obvious as possible. ;)

It can be canon or not depending on your view. To me, it was kind of just this big joke that I'm not really sure will actually follow into other episodes, but I honestly don't care either way. Most likely, they won't really revisit these characters again, so it can be taken either way. Even if there is a second episode about them though, these episodes can still be grouped into their own series separate from the actual canon if one chooses.

Then again, the donkeys got married and they were actually characters before this episode... that complicates matters. If that's canon, which it most likely is, then the entire episode's events must be accepted as well. So I guess I'll have to change my answer to "yes."

It depends upon which portion you are talking about.  Was it a part of the episode, or a portion of a cutscene.  Lyrabon has a lot more support in the episode than say that the ponies have stopped being averse to changelings due to a cutscene having foals afraid of a changeling in plain sight during the wedding.  One is a plot point, the other is a gag.

People are going to see only what they want to see and interpret anything said on the matter in whatever way supports their beliefs.

For my two bits worth, I can't see Hasbro injecting anything so controversial as a lesbian relationship into their programming after that whole Derpy fiasco.

Thank you for your post. Everything you said is exactly what I want people to think about.

Yes it's an actual episode, but the whole thing was a self-referential joke.

Yes Cranky and Matilda got married, but Vinyl and Tavi pretty much drift raced through town on a friggin' Wubmobile.

Despite enjoying it from beginning to end, I don't really see how this can be taken at face value.

In the end it's not too important, but it's something I'm interested in.

Not liking 100th episode doesn't automatically make it non-canon; that decision lies with MLPFIM staffs who, to my knowledge, have not stated it wasn't.

Who said anything about not liking it?

I loved the whole thing, but I still can't take it seriously.

It felt like I was just part of an elaborate inside joke the entire time. Like a parody.

Must it?  No.  Will it?  Some yes, some no.  Is it?  Yes.

Ah, the greater philosophical questions.

I really loved it, though.  I still don't get all the complaints about it being nothing but pandering fanservice.  What's wrong with a little of that?  A franchise like this is different from something like Game of Thrones, based on a book that has all been written by one man, his vision, with no audience/fan influence.  I see no problem with fanservice in something like FIM.  I personally think it's amazing and mindblowing that so much brony-created stuff has been adopted by the writers as canon.  I mean, like Derpy for example.  We created her.  She was just an animation glitch, and we made her what she is.  How awesome is that?

Derpy was no glitch. It was meant to be an inside joke the animators threw in because her face was supposed to be just outside of view in the intended shot. But the final cut made the shot wider, and the joke was revealed for all to see.

I have seen some people post something like "it was so terrible that it can't be canon". In any case, no matter how ridiculous it was I still see it as canon; all episodes in MLPFIM series are considered canon so I don't see why 100th episode should be given non-canon treatment unless specifically stated by MLPFIM staff.

But I've read some other posts in this thread and I will agree that, ultimately, I don't think it matters whether this episode is canon or not in terms of MLPFIM show as I'm quite certain things will go on as usual (main change perhaps being Matilda and Cranky referring to one another as spouses if they have speaking roles in the future); mostly what may have been affected are numerous headcanons.
