spoiler Was Gummy really Gummy?

So, as I was watching the 100th episode, which I was rather pleased with, I was also worrying. I was looking at it and thinking, "Oh no... People are going to react like [insert reaction here]." But that's not what this thread is about. That's just to describe how I was looking at the episode. 80% of me was enjoying the episode, and 20% of me was thinking about what other people would think about it, because I like analysis.

And then we saw Gummy. And we heard a voice. But here's my question. Was that voice actually Gummy? As I watched, I saw two perspectives. One, the one that I was more likely to consider, was that this was a narrator, and this scene was something like a documentary. The second, which I believed more likely to be the popular consideration, was that the voice was actually Gummy's thoughts.

The voice did refer to alligators, but didn't refer to itself. I.e., he didn't say, "and what about alligators like me?" which would have clearly pointed towards the voice actually being Gummy.

I've only seen the episode once, and admittedly, I haven't seen the credits. I couldn't find them online after a brief search. But my leaning would be against popular opinion, that the voice wasn't actually Gummy. But I'm still curious as to your opinions, and what evidence for or against might be presented upon closer examination.

The credits and most likely the script specify that those really were Gummy's thoughts. IMO the best use of Lee Tockar's voice talents on this show to date.

I really thought the question here would be if how Gummy was seen in this episode should be taken as how we see Gummy in the rest of the episodes. It was fun wondering what it was like from his perspective in every one of his appearances, where he seemed not to give a damn about anything.

This may sound silly but I have this theory that the animals in MLP can talk but don't have the vocal cords to talk physically. That's why in a bird in the hoof, keep calm and flutter on, and some other episodes (Angel Bunny mostly) the animals instead use signs and charades to say what they want to say. So yeah that was definitely Gummy just chilling by the window talking to himself lol.

That would be an amazing idea for a fan video! Dub over all the gummy scenes with some inner monologue. :)

I'm glad someone else thought about this the way I did.  This was the only thing about the episode that made me go:

I gather that most people just loved it, but the idea that these were actually Gummy's thoughts just didn't sit well with me.  For one thing, even though the pets often have some level of personification (e.g. Angel), it doesn't seem right to me that the lower species/pets should be able to talk or think in English language.  And I just can't buy into the fact that Gummy is really a genius.  Are we to believe that he's actually brilliant, but chooses to just stare blankly all the time and let bees fly in his nose without the slightest reaction?  Does he have some physical disability that prevents him from moving much or something?  He's always been depicted as being completely brainless, and I just prefer to keep him that way.  I don't care for this genius Gummy idea.  I really prefer to think of the voice as just a narrator.  But here I am, a 30 year old man, spending all night on these forums, and now debating the serious implications of a talking gator joke.  So...yeah...whatever.

But I really liked the speech, though.  It was surprisingly dark.

honestly the scene was kinda bizarre and put in there so randomly. I think it was definitely Gummy's voice that we heard but whatever that scene was referencing was beyond me. It reminded me of something that would have happened on Adventure Time

When I first saw it I thought it was his own thoughts, but after watching it again today (funnily enough just before stumbling across this thread), it almost sounded more like a narrator rather than gummy, so in short - I got no idea

One thing came to my mind though. This means that Gummy is actually really smart and he's hiding it all right?

I don't think he's hiding it, it's more like Maud Pie. It's there, but he's more of an observer than anything.

(edited)

I see it a little differently, I don't think they were Gummy's thoughts. I think it was just a one-time random & funny moment in the show to make the audience laugh. I loved that scene, just like the sock puppet/treehugger both scenes came out of nowhere and got the hardest laughs out of me.
