I can not fathom Celestia.

Bear (bare?) with me here. This might not be as long or thoughtful as most of my threads, but i have been thinking (thats like my trademark entrance line now)... How in Tarturus is Equestria not engulfed in flame by now? The 1000 years after Luna's banishment must have been carebear land if Celestia didn't screw it up.

She has told Twilight to follow so many horribly concieved instructions. Thank God Twilight knows when to buck command or else Equestria would be taken over by Tirek, Sombra would have the Crystal Empire, etc.

I mean just... My logical brain cannot process such faff. Why does she do these things? How is she such a great ruler otherwise?

????????

Because the teacher's always right, no matter how bucking stupid the teacher is

Because this is a TV show for little girls, we can't have conflict that's so sophisticated and explainable

Because Twilight and her friends need to learn about teamwork and friendship! :D

Just look at that one moment, I can't remember what episode it was, where somepony (I think it was Discord) makes a joke about twilight and everypony else is silent. Except for sunbutt. who just chuckles, rather loudly.

LOL the citizens are content, there is a high standard of living despite equestria being somewhat medieval. All of her "stupid plans" have WORKED. So by all means that makes her a great ruler.

I wonder the same. It's frightening that Sunbutt has remained as ruler for so long with no coups, as far as we know

there are no coups because there is no reason to. Equestria is a great place to live and everyone is happy.

Does nightmare moon count ;p

And then there's lots of outside attacks by foreigners according to the comics. You don't generally have coups when you're being invaded so much.

Except for the periodic dragons, megalomaniac villains, and the endless parade of monsters and supernatural horrors that bombard the place.

Good luck completing that down payment on your house or buying good insurance, especially if you live in Ponyville.

Ponyville shows no signs of being in disrepair or poverty. Even after the parasprites episode everything was repaired.

After every major villain attack the towns still seem to be in good shape, even during the Tirek incident little to no buildings were destroyed. Only one I can remember is twilight's tree house, and it was replaced with a far more expensive castle.

In the end it will all be revealed that Celestia's ignorance was willful in an attempt to teach Twilight to be independent and a good leader.

Probably so that Twilight can become a part of an Equestrian triumvirate, or succeed her (or her and Luna) while they deal with whatever cosmic shit requires their attention.

Constant attacks by outside forces are good for bad leaders though: the threat of the "other" makes people more willing to put up with problems of the elite due to fear that fighting against the leadership will allow the outsiders to invade and destroy you.

Its why incompetent police states so often create insane propoganda that the outside world wants nothing more than to invade and murder everyone.

In one of the comics it is explained that she indeed could care of all the villains but she didn't because she wants twilight and her friends to grow and get better on their own.

There you have you explanation.

It's always funny, because Celestias canonical portrayal and her fandom portrayal are like universal opposites. In the show she is very kind and caring. Yes, she has a sense of humor, but who dosen't laugh from time to time? She is the ideal pony who others are striving to be. All of Equestria ideals are wrapped up in her.

In the fandom, she reminds me of the pony version of Loki, from the Thor Comics/Movies. All the powers of a god, but with endless amount of malice and trickery. And that's how Tyrantlestia became a thing, which is the worst headcanon of all time, because it came from nowhere and even some of the worst headcanons came from somewhere.

I think the reason why many people hate Celestia is because, while she isn't a Tyrant, she is certainly an autocrat and most people who live in democracy and especially the guys in the US hate them by default (Just open a history book about the american revolution from the british.) She is over everybody and has all the power, without nobody having any say in it and that's why everybody thinks that every autocrat, who dosen't give anybody any say in it, is automatically evil.

I wonder the same. It's frightening that Sunbutt has remained as ruler for so long with no coups, as far as we know

Now this is where this quote comes into play. Why don't ponies rebel against her? How did Celestia rule over them for the past 1000 years? The answer is simple. She is nice. There is even a word that, it's called "benevolent dictatorship." Ponies who are content, don't rebel.

They love her, they admire her, they are struck in awe when she is there, they really enjoy her rule.

I think she's the perfect ruler. Despite being American I admire Monarchy when the leader is good to the people such as in the case of King Arthur. lus she is so chill. She actually seemed amused by pinkie pie stealing her muffin in the one episode. Also she invited the spirit of chaos to the gala, no more need said, she is supreme over all other ponie leaders.

There you have you explanation.

I assume you are trying to say that Celestia could take care of them, as in defeat them.

Could you tell me which comic it said that in?

Think about it, if sunbutt would take care of all those villains, what purpose has Twilight and her friends then?

That coniving little...

But wait. My analytical mind is going off. She says MANY of them, not all of them. Which means there is some villian out there, or possibly an all ready encountered one, that celestia KNOWS she can not defeat, but Twilight can.

*strokes beard* very interesting...

Uhhh, two things I feel the need to point out about this:

1. The notion that Celestia could have stopped most of the baddies that have appeared in the show is bullshit. Without the Elements of Harmony, she was shown to be virtually powerless against both Nightmare Moon and Discord. She obviously couldn't stop Chrysalis, and with Tirek, she decided to surrender herself, perhaps out of a lack of faith that she could do anything to stop him. So that pretty much just leaves Sombra.

2. Even regardless, she certainly should not be sacrificing Equestria just to force Twilight to learn something. That's nothing more than a sign of a poor leader.

Not true, she COULD stop chrysalis (she did once in the past), just not chrysalis powered up by Shining armor's love. Without feeding on shining armor Chrysalis is inferior to Celestia.
