I preferred Equestria Girls during the last few seasons of Friendship is Magic (5-9) and I enjoyed the Youtube shorts and Sunset's Backstage Pass

A LOT more than Season 9 of FiM

EQG rocks :)

Equestria will always be where the magic started though.

FiM will probably always be better for me than EQG ever was BUT the toy and figure lines for EQG is very very good i must say

I definitely agree. Loved the EQG dolls. I had a couple of them. Much better quality than my Monster High dolls, those were quite fragile.

I prefer FiM but imo EQG was a perfect way to introduce humans to the series. At first I thought it was going to be a horrible idea but I was totally wrong. Would like to see more of EQG. Too bad there won't be any in the future :(

Friendship is Magic Seasons 1-4 > Equestria Girls > Friendship is Magic Seasons 5-9

Honestly tho, if Equestria Girls actually had its own 22 minute episode show it could have been just as good as Golden era MLP with the proper writing, I would have taken that over Seasons 6-9 of MLP anyday.

I like the Equestria Girls movies more (as I just said in another thread), but it's not like a leaps and bounds difference. They're both great shows, and just as good (the fact that I prefer one doesn't mean I think it's better per se). There are definitely different things I like about each.

It's nice having two Twilights, with one being a more shy inventor type.

Huh, that's an interesting question. I like FiM more as a whole, but I do feel like there was more consistent quality in Equestria Girls.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

I never watched EQG, and I love FiM more than any other show, so I disagree. However, I'm perfectly fine with others loving EQG more than FiM, and I don't necessarily think EQG is a bad show because generally I can't judge what I haven't watched.

I think it would be insane to suggest that I love EQG "more" than FiM, however there are leagues of episodes that pail in comparison to Rainbow Rocks... And I genuinely enjoyed Friendship Games as well(it just gets a little silly) but the original Equestria Girls, ummm we got to take the whole franchise into account... But yeah FiM has some episodes that are an absolute snore, literally some I've only seen a couple times, but I LITERALLY can not count how many times I've seen Rainbow Rocks, Sunset Shimmer in this movie IS EVERYTHING TO ME. I can't consider Sunset best pony bc she canonically makes the decision to hold her human life in higher regards, and it honestly makes a lot more sense that they didn't bring her back and had her focus on HER OWN friendships .. but Sunset MAKES Equestria Girls without her it's a corny cash grab without the OC that pulls the personalities together, she creates and amplifies and plays off these personalities, ESPECIALLY Twilight...

I love them both for different reasons. I couldn't make sense of Twilight, a lifelong pony, suddenly developing a crush on a human when she barely understood the basics of being a human herself, thus such a creature had no reason to be physically attractive to her, and that put me off of EQG in the beginning, as did one of Sunset's line deliveries... But from Rainbow Rocks onward it was a massive improvement and I enjoyed all of them. I'm particular to Spring Breakdown though, as it contains portal shenanigans and we get to see Ponified Sci-Twi, or Unicorn Twi with Glasses which is absolutely adorable.

And yes, there are FIM episodes that are a snore (Spike At Your Service comes to mind, but so does Just For Sidekicks) and I feel bad that Spikecentric episodes are often so dull in their execution.

Hard to say whether I love one more than the other, but I just love them both so much. I've also developed a fondness for Pony Life, believe it or not.

I think both series have a lot of great things to love about. EQ was just super fun! I'm still rewatching of the EG movies, specials, and shorts as the series was a fantastic spinoff from MLP.

To me, EQG is a fun twist. But it's far from equal to FIM and I really need to be in the right mood to go back to it. The web shorts are nice but in my opinion, the format doesn't work as well as, say, only doing full-length episodes or specials. The movies and specials are better.
