I LIKE Diamond Tiara!

That's right. You heard me correctly...actually scratch that!, you can't hear me I am not talking you didn't hear any of this you are reading it!

You READ me correctly! I LIKE Diamond Tiara! I think she is a great character and emphasizes a much more darker part of mlp then one would think. Her cutie mark is basically just a diamond tiara as her name is. Zero evidence has been shown at any point that she is a jeweler or even possesses any interest in jewels aside from her headgear. So, what does the diamond tiara represent? Leadership! Which she has shown.

A great leader needs to be tough and not a bleeding heart wishy washy person like some people other there are, they need decisiveness and the ability to be tough and cold harted when needed and she has these qualities. It also represents fame, beauty ( good looks ) and manipulation. Because the only girl who get to wear the diamond tiara at the end of prom is the most popular, manipulative one with the best leadership skills which she has shown in the past. Like with the newspaper episode. She did what she thought was best for the profits and gain for the paper with disregards to the "feelings" of others who she makes stories of.

Sure she is a bully but that's life. Bullies don't change in life, they simply just change their tactics and the nature of bullying. They grow up, become a manager or something in a business or business leaders like she will and then big evil corporation and well you get the point. Not to mention that she is undoubtedly ignored by large by her father which is why she was probably the only one interested in her dads speech about what he does for a living. He probably had to schedule that visit to the classroom a year in advance. Plus, a child growing up in a rich house hold would easily give anyone a strong sense of entitlement so you cannot blame her for that really.

So why do I like her?

A break from the love dovey friendship hugs everyone characters

Leadership qualities.

Cruel

Manipulative

and the fact that compared to the others, she is just plain real as the way she acts is like how a lot of kids in real life act to each other a lot of times.

Diamond Tiara is inspired from real life so obviously she is going to have fans, the cutie mark crusaders got a lot of hate because of her leadership.

Your point about being a refreshing character compared to the rest of the cast is quite interesting. While that is most certainly true, I wouldn't say it makes Diamond Tiara any better.

Part of the appeal of MLP:FiM is the utopian themes and how welcoming many the cast are. We live in a world where we're all weighed down by jobs, family and society issues to the point where we become cynical, so to see a world where there is peace makes it nice to watch. It helps that many episodes like to focus on Ponyville as a whole and do community-based activities. As such, I like to think that the cast as a whole is more refreshing, but that's how I see it.

Another cynical character I know of that appears in MLP:FiM is Ms. Harshwhinny, who I find to be written better than Diamond. Sure, she appears less, but what makes her a more relatable character is that even if she is jaded by many things, she doesn't mean any harm to anybody. She just takes her job seriously and knows when to not be stuck-up from time to time. Diamond on the other hand is hard to relate as she loves to harass others all because they don't have their cutie mark. Not only does it raise implications of superiority and abusing it to hurt others emotionally, but it also is straight-up bullying. Many people are against both of these things due to experiences or whatnot, so as such Diamond only comes off as an unlikeable character.

One more thing that doesn't help is that in all of her appearances thus far, she comes off as your one-note school bully who serves as the one who creates more tension to the hero. With the exception of Ponyville Confidential, school bully tropes aren't favoured as the bully doesn't ever grow as a character, so it's insanely predictable to see what Diamond would do next. People prefer characters who grow over static characters, as it makes them more relatable and makes them want to support them on their quest.

But that's just my two cents on this topic. Maybe I could be wrong, but that is how I see it.

Diamond Tiara's character is being a leader? I wouldn't say so or at least she's excessively cruel in my opinion. I don't have the same feeling towards Spitfire's treatment towards other Wonderbolts at work because it's actually part of her job, she didn't seem excessively cruel to them, and we see that she's actually friendly outside of work.

What are some things she did?

-Degrading those who don't yet know what they're meant to do in life.

-Insulting another's family member.

-Blackmailing employees.

-Degrading others because of their disability (potential).

-Turning a family member against their own.

--Taking away the treehouse in which they were never invited to (trespassing).

---(However this may be more Babs than DT).

I suppose I could understand a bit that she's appealing in the way that her cruelness contrasts many other characters we see. However, so far I was never presented with any redeeming qualities about her or why she's what she is. So to me, Diamond Tiara is still simply a bitch whose absence would benefit everyone.

Diamond Tiara represents and (as of this post) an untapped potential in the show. Outside of a very subtle hint, we haven't seen much depth presented. We did see the writers take her bullying and move to to the next level which was actually ingenious, but I actually want to feel conflicted in my authorial guided anger toward her.

I hold out hope that one of the upcoming CMC episode's will address this. I once believed that the show would likely take the wedge approach to DT and silver Spoon creating conflict between the two which would result in a friendless Diamond Tiara having to reevaluate her bullying. I also hope that she is tangentially responsible for AB getting her cutie mark.

Right now, I revel in not liking DT, because the writers did their job. It is up to them to show me complexity in her character.

As someone who has worked along side CEO's and served as a volunteer for a few political campaigns ... I know what a leader is in action. DT does not fit that mold.

Well, DT's lyrics in the first song in Pinkie Pride was the first hint that said conflict between the two is a possibility, and later Twilight Time were she asked the CMC to invite her at Twilight Time and forgetting about Silver Spoon, hinting at a slight neglect of her part

I don't care about Scootaloo but I found Diamond Tiara overly cruel when she used Scootaloo's inability to fly to offset the CMC's performance. That's like dissing on the disabled. Just not cool. That's going beyond even in the ethics of bullying.

I don't like her personality but i do like her character and how she offers conflict towards the CMC in the story. She's actually smart for her age and she's ruthless. There are child-like qualities to her like how she adores princesses like Twilight just for their status and her victory dance with SS but I'd say she's mature for her age too.

I generally don't care for her that much- she's usually just the evil bitch and that's that- but she *can* be written well. And that doesn't necessarily mean mean sympathetic. I found her *very* entertaining in Ponyville Confidential- showing that she can be passionate, ambitious, and really over the top in a funny way. Her giant ego and gruff and pushy way made her a really good foil for the CMC here.
