What is the worst/best controller you've ever used?

What is the absolute WORST and BEST way to play a game you've ever experienced?

Fill out this form, please.

-Name:

-Year:

-Console:

-Why it's the worst/best in your opinion:

_________

Me for example.

the worst controller i've ever used IMO, is:

-the WiiMote.

-2006

-The Nintendo Wii

-It was uncomfortable and not fun at all to use. i went with the classic controller instead.

and my best IMO is:

-the Dualshock 3 controller

-2007

-PS3

-I only have a PS3 in my room. and to be fair, playing crysis 3 with it feels 100% fluent. it is undeniably the very best controller i've ever played with. It has fluent, responsive controls, a comfortable shape, and its analog sticks are placed on the very bottom, in comparison to the xbox's top-left/down-right or the wiiu's top/top. and drifting with it on Need for speed Most Wanted 2k12 is undeniably amazing. you gotta try it for yourself to believe it!

When life gives you space lemons, you make space lemonade. Wait, why am i speaking good of lemons? GET MAD! I DON'T WANT YOUR DAMN SPACE LEMONS, WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THESE?

Worst

  • DualShock 3
  • 2007
  • PS3
  • I never liked the triggers, it would've helped if it had a smoother design, and it was uncomfortable to hold.

Best

  • Xbox One Controller
  • 2013
  • Xbox One
  • It has a smooth design, modern features, it's comfortable, great analog sticks, good weight, good button layout and it is an all around good controller.

Best:

-Name: Dualshock 4

-Year: 2013

-Console: PlayStation 4

-Why it's best: For years, I have preferred the Xbox 360 controller. Once I got my hands on the DS4, that changed. I find the DS4 to be more comfortable than the 360 pad, (Does it have a specific name?) I find the face buttons and D-pad to have a more tactile feel to them. The DS4 is leaps and bounds better than the standard Playstation controller that had been virtually unchanged since 1997 with the original Dualshock. It is the preferred pad for me on PC. I also like how I can use the touchpad on the controller as a trackpad, which comes in handy more often that you think.

Worst:

-Name: The Duke (or Fatty if you prefer)

-Year: 2001 (2001 in NA, 2002 everywhere else)

-Console: OG Xbox

-Why it's worst: Nobody liked The Duke, and I am no exception. It's not a "large" controller per-se, but in my hands (and I have medium size hands) it feels gigantic. The action buttons were tiny and too close together, the right analog stick was 5 ft. away from them, the D-pad lacked any feel, and I could never feel comfortable with it in my hands. Oh, and the obnoxiously large Xbox logo was not ever noticed. They did rectify this with the S controller, which was then made better with the 360.

The best would either be

- the 360 controller and the Gamecube controller

- 2005 and 2001 respectively

- Xbox 360 and Gamecube

- Love the ergonomic feel, they fit perfectly in my hands, nice triggers, and I prefer the left analog placement over the dualshock's. Only things I don't like are the shitty D-pads

Worst

- The N64 controller

- 1996

- Nintendo 64

- Serious, who the fuck tested this controller? 3-armed mutants?

The N64 controller

I'd say this is my #2. It was a very strange controller to use. It was somewhat comfortable to use, but most games I played on it never really used all the buttons that often.

The analog stick was just so bad. It wasn't good brand new and it broke easily. The dpad and buttons were good but almost no games used the dpad for movement.

I guess all you kids are to young to have use an nintendo nes controller. the pointed corners would dig into your hands! The OG xbox kind of suck to because it felt like it was made for people with smaller hands then me. For likes I have aways been a fan of all the PS 1-4 controllers but I think the best I have used was the xbox 360 (I have not used the xbox one)

Would this be something more of interest?

what about goldeneye 007? didnt that game use the left-middle hand-placement?

Gamecube controller

the thing i liked about that controller was the triggers. they were actual triggers. i liked that, even if i never owned a gamecube.

  • Nintendo Gamecube Controller
  • 2002, I think
  • Gamecube
  • Basically, the design on this controller is a mess. It feels inconsistent with both the analog sticks, the button layout, and overall feel. It is not uncomfortable to hold overall, but the layout is very unfriendly. Also, the d-pad is horrendous.

Best

  • Xbox One Controller
  • 2013
  • Xbox One
  • This is easily the best controller I have ever used and the special Gamestop Lunar White one is even better with the gripping texture on the bottom part of the controller. The analog sticks are smooth, the triggers are the best I have ever used on any controller by far and I just love the overall look of it. It seems more sleek than a PS4 controller in my opinion.

-The controller is awkwardly designed

-The analog stick breaks too easily

-Most of the games don't even require the four yellow buttons

-Rocking the analog stick back and forth wears down your thumbs

Best

  • Gamecube controller
  • 2001
  • Nintendo Gamecube

-Instead of making four separate buttons,it just has one analog stick

-Comfortable to hold

-The Nintendo 64 controller done right

-Responsive controls

-Longer cords

Best: Super Nintendo controller

1999

Super Nintendo

This was the start of my gaming, along with the original NES and N64, so I played alot of games on this system. The added buttons from the original console made gaming better.

Worst: Sega Genesis controller (six button)

1989

Sega Genesis

Now don't get me wrong, I loved playing games like Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Castlevania Bloodlines, and Earthworm Jim (these were the only three games I owned for the system since I was young and couldn't buy games for myself yet), but the controller was just not my favorite. As I try to remember, it really didn't feel right in my hand.

Worst Nintendo Gamecube Controller 2002, I think Gamecube Basically, the design on this controller is a mess. It feels inconsistent with both the analog sticks, the button layout, and overall feel. It is not uncomfortable to hold overall, but the layout is very unfriendly. Also, the d-pad is horrendous.

That's quite shocking. Everybody says that it was one of the best controllers Nintendo made, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Best:

Hm.. I have a lot of options, but I'm going to go with..

-Super NES controller

-1991

-Super Nintendo Entertainment System

Simply put, I found this controller to be simple, easy to use and comfortable to hold. It's "diamond button" layout was nice, plus was rather innovative considering most controllers I see these days have a similar layout, which was also really good for platformers and fighting games, and I just find it really comfortable to hold. there's also my snes bias so there's that

Worst:

-Nintendo 64 controller

-1996

-Nintendo 64

Now, it's not really because of the "three-handles" thing (that wasn't really much of a problem to me since most games used analog sticks), but.. it's more for it's analog stick than anything else. The analog stick was uncomfortable to use, and often cut into your hand (just look at what happened with Mario Party) and it often broke, which led to poor performances. It's personally one of the reasons why I'm more of a PS1 fan.

I'd also probably say the Atari 5200 controller, since it broke at the drop of a hat, but I haven't actually used it so ye.

I like it because it is the most comfortable feeling game controller that I have used.  And I find it easy to controll.

  • Nintendo 64

It just feels very very awkward to use and I don't really like it's shape or the way it feels.

Best: Tied.

Xbox 360 Controller

2005

Xbox 360

-perfect ergonomical stick placement. I imagine small hands would have some trouble, though.

-butter-smooth triggers.

Wii Classic Controller Pro

2009

Nintendo Wii

-Say what you will about the Wiimote, but the pro Classic controller is actually really nice.

Worst:

Nintendo 64 Controller

1996

Nintendo 64

-Spindly, hard to control analog sticks.

-Who thought three handles was a good idea?

If handhelds count...

Sony PSP

2004

-The analog stick is useless, sticks often, and is hard to keep a grip on. HD screen is nice, yes, but the stick is its downfall.

Best-

Bit of a controversial opinion here, but I really love the Wiiu game pad. My fingers are long, so the buttons on the back are not difficult for me to reach. All the buttons just work for me.

Worst-

The Nintendo 64 controller....The analog stick CUT into my thumbs all the time, not to mention it was placed in a really awkward position.

Worst:

-Name:
N64 Controller
-Year:
1996
-Console:
N64
-Why it's the worst/best in your opinion:

Damn confusing, that's why!

Best:

-Name:
GameCube Controller
-Year:
2001
-Console:
GameCube
-Why it's the worst/best in your opinion:

The buttons are nicely placed; the X and Y button are small because you don't use them that often depending on the game, the A button is huge because that's the main button for most games, the B button is a bit smaller because that's a secondary button, the B X and Y buttons are around the A button, the D-pad, C-stick, and Right Analog are neatly placed, start button's in the center, the L and R buttons are big for certain games like Sonic Riders and Super Smash Bros Melee (and Brawl). Plus, it's compatible with the GameCube, Wii, and Wii U.

BONUS: My second favorite is a tie between the Wiiu Gamepad and Classic Controller Pro. Classic Controller pro because the handles, and Wiiu Gamepad because of the left and right triggers.

BEST

Xbox One Controller

2013

Xbox One

It fits perfectly in my hands, has a great weight, and just overall feels right.

WORST

Dual-Shock 4/N64 Controller

2013/1996

PS4/N64

The Dual-Shock 4 slid around in my hands, which has always been a problem with PS controllers for me, but the Dual-Shock 4 just felt awful for some reason. I think it's obvious why anyone would dislike the N64 Controller.
