Look I know the show is about friendship but why mostly female characters?

Why are so many characters getting redeemed and becoming good? And they're mostly female.

Trixie

Babs Seed

Gilda

Discord (only male but I since he's the spirit of chaos who knows)

Diamond Tiara

Sunset Shimmer

Not redeemed

Sombra

Chrysalis

Tirek

Flim and Flam

Wind Rider

Iron Will

Let's keep this straight, I prefer villains to stay villains for as long as they could be. They do not become redeemed but merely create a truce nothing more than that. Yes MLP follows the whole "women are never evil they are just misunderstood.." ideal but this thing goes in many other American shows. Female villains are always sympathized or redeemable what gives? I mean take Maleficent for example which is a whole movie dedicated towards one.

Iron Will's not even a bad guy, and the other characters that haven't been redeem are just irredeemable, nothing about their gender

As far as the actual redemption themselves go though, I always felt they've been handled pretty shittily.

Gilda's and Diamond Tiara's redemptions are the only ones I thought were actually good, Discord and Sunset took a while for them to work/take effect, and Trixie's and Babs Seed's were flat-out awful imo

I think that reason why evil becomes good is because it teaches that no matter who you are you can change.

And mostly females? well, everything in mlp is mostly females.

What about the chick during the first two episodes of season 5? Starlight Glimer.

She... Is evil, pure evil. She was not redeemed in any way.

Also, the changling Queen is still evil.

With characters like Sombra he wasn't really there much. A glimps of his past and then he was banished.

Tirek had a brother who was also evil but was redeemed by the pony friendship.

Flim and Flam will always be who they are because that is their destiny.

Flimflam literally means this:

1.

swindle (someone) with a confidence game.

Wind Rider was just a pony trying to outlive his days and try to stay number one. Not really a villain just a sad old pony.

Iron Will was redeemed after talking with flutters just. Might not have been a big thing, was a bit subtle but still he walked away a little different that day.

I will agree that I think they're redeeming too many villains. I think Trixie lost much of her entertainment value when she turned good (the dash/trixie comic had her at least still be conning others to keep her funny), and I think Discord was at his best as a villain.

I hope they don't redeem lightning dust or Wind rider: i think those two would make great returning villains.

Yeah, pretty much this. The show just has more girls than guys, so of course more girls will be redeemed

Well the shows targeted audience is young girls, and they believe a show mostly made up of girl characters will do better and be more enjoyable true or not for them.

one thing, while there are of course a few young males that like the show, hasbro doesn't really try to cater to them apart from spike as a "designated token male" character. As such, there's low pressure from hasbro to introduce more males and high pressure to focus on females since the girls will relate to them more, while they believe there's few males watching the show that would need someone to relate to.

"I think there's a double-edged sword to reforming villains. It's good to see them come around, because it shows us that people can change and that if you find yourself making a mistake, you yourself can change and be forgiven. However, I also feel it's actually important to show some villains remain villainous. Unfortunately, in this world, we run into people who will continue to hurt us no matter how much kindness we show them. It's realistic to show that this can happen and that it is best to cut abusive people out of our lives—like Rainbow Dash did with Gilda." - From an interview with Lauren Faust

As to "Why mostly female characters?"  Money.  Hasbro made this show to sell MLP dolls & reckons that market is mostly girls.  Boys do NOT play w dolls! (They do, however, have adventures w action figures.) Hasbro reckons girls mostly buy girl dolls, so ....

As to why most villains get reformed, well, IMO Hasbro thinks it's necessary.  It is like in the old Comics Code, they have to show crime doesn't pay & by extension, villains don't prosper.

His question was actually a combination of the two - Why most of the characters getting reformed are female.

I don't really care if the villian is a male or a female...it's no biggy...villians are villians regardless of their gender xD

Thats what makes the show special.. Usually other shows have the villains either beaten up, imprisoned or ever so rarely killed off. :(

About the whole reformation thing... it teaches that everypony can change their ways, with the help of others...

...and the gender equality thing? I don't see that being  much of a problem seeing that most of the characters are female (which is totally cool with me :D)

I don't see people complain about other shows having mostly male characters, so I don't understand why people instantly complain if something is the slightest bit feminine-dominated.

Honestly. I don't think half these characters are evil.

Chrysalis, despite her sinister ways....was actually only trying to live up to her duty as a Changling Queen. She was trying to get them food. I'm sure if their food was to suck away hate....they would then be considered protagonists because they'd be doing something good. It's just unfortunate that their food was love.

Trixie wasn't even evil. She was a show off. And I don't think she actually changed. Sure she saw the wrong in her stealing the alicorn amulet, but when she made that "I AM SO HUMBLE." announcement, it's clear she's still her old self...just with a slightly better attitude.

Flim and Flame doesn't have to be reformed, or redeemed.....they are businessmen/con artists trying to make a living and gain profit. That isn't evil..that's just life for many people in this world.

Iron Will....well I'm sure his intentions weren't to make Fluttershy some super monstrous jerk. His methods are aggressive, but that's him. Can't blame him for what she did.
