gaming Halo 5: Guardians, is anyone planning on getting it?

I totally  agree with this it's very toxic, cant they just move on? I mean there are better games out there and better sci-fi series too. They claim they want to "save" Halo, but in reality there doing the opposite, killing it faster. I was part of the CHC (Classic Halo Community) that lasted from 2001-2012 and it  was loyal to a fault. The NHC (New Halo Community) is the polar opposite.

Me and Halo 4 was a relationship that didn't work out first. It was only a few months back I began to really appreciate it and grow to love it. Especially once I started delving deeper into the campaign.

I do enjoy Halo CE and Halo 3 occasionally, but really I feel like those games are only still considered so good today because of people's nostalgia. I know that I was once blinded by such nostalgia and because of it, I refused to accept Halo 4. But hey, things change I guess.

But ya know, you have to have a super strong opinion about it all or you're just not a "true" halo fan.

Less than 6 hours remaining! : D The game seems to be performing well on Metacritic which is awesome and I just figured out, dedicated servers! That, is really cool.

Since I am so excited for the game, I made a couple of signatures for my database thread, for Halo 5! :3 Better yet, these are for Team Chief and Team Locke! You can pick your side and represent if you want. :)

These are located here: http://mlpforums.com/topic/77071-kyoshis-sigsavatars-for-everypony-200-sigsavatars

My excitement for this game is throug hthe roof. :P

Halo 3 was the very first game I ever got on my X360, so much nostalgia.

I might get it....I don't play console anymore so I dunno....

If it comes out on PC which is unlikely, I'll definitely have a look at buying it.

I'm not much of a fan of buying games as soon as they come out as well, too expensive.

going to get it at midnight after work then maybe spend a hour while installing...yippy ! XD

If only we could somehow install the disc beforehand. XD The install should not take too long though it being on disc, that is always a positive. :) I am glad I was able to pre-order it digitally and that did not screw up this time. : P

To be slightly objective here, taking off the Halo fan-glasses:

Some reviews for the pre-release review copies are out, and I am... A little disappointed. I'll spoiler tag it:

So a lot of reviews are saying that Spartan Locke is basically bland as all get up. He's boring and has little depth to him, and it's just not fun to play as him which sucks more because you spend more than half the game as him. So if you were hoping to be the chief (like me) you may be disappointed. Another issue is recycled bosses. Apparently there is this boss that can possess bodies and thus they reuse it again and again.

The story doesn't really make a lot of sense and is kind of stupid. Chief is gone off to deal with Cortana and because he basically went AWOL they are like "OH NO MAYBE HE'S GONE ROGUE, QUICK SEND SOMEONE TO KILL HIM." Which really doesn't make any fucking sense. First of all, how do you SUDDENLY have this guy who is trained enough to stop Master fucking Chief, probably the greatest soldier and badass in existence? The man fucking sleeps combat, he never takes off his suit for christ's sake. You have nothing that can stop that force of god damn nature. On top of that, he's saved the world like 4 times now, are you seriously thinking he just randomly went evil? Talk about a complete lack of faith on their part.

The MP sounds like it's fine but in a review I saw they basically pointed out that the servers up now are pre-release servers so the final game may be different MP wise, and they can't even really play Warzone because there's not enough people yet.

What's worse is there is even the possibility that Microsoft is forcing reviewers to give positive reviews of the game because some of the reviews completely don't even mention any of the above and only talk about the highlights of the game.

On the plus side, the visuals are stellar as we'd expect from a Halo game. Probably the best looking game on the Xbox One to date. However if you were hoping for a badass adventure where it's you and the Chief against the impossible... You may be waiting until Halo 6. It's a shame, I really wanted to like Spartan Locke, I REALLY did. I felt he could have become like a second Master Chief, but... Nope.

Am I still going to get the game at some point? Sure. Just not at launch and I'm definitely not about to dump money on an Xbox One for it alone.

I was thinking of getting the 1 Terabyte Limited Edition Halo 5 Guardians Xbox One bundle but it seems expensive at £400. I would have got it yesterday but apparently the campaign is only around 6 hours long and it's not very good and i'm not really interested in the multiplayer only the story.

This definitely isn't the type of game for you then, unfortunately. These types of games (and a lot of games in general nowadays) focus heavily on multiplayer. Look at things like Titanfall; you start the game, and you queue for multiplayer. That's it.

I know, i really don't like how games are being made with either little single player or no single player in mind in favour of multiplayer. The new Star Wars Battlefront doesn't have a campaign and Destiny has little story mode with a lot amount of DLC expansions. It's why i avoided both of them until now along with Titanfall. To be honest i was hoping Halo 5 would have a much longer campaign and a good one. Oh well, i'll still get it when it becomes much cheaper some day.

Bought it. Beat the campaign. Had lots of fun, but ultimately disappointed in the way the story was presented. And no splitscreen co-op, are you kidding me? Yes, let's phase out a key factor that made Halo so fun, all in the name of m-muh framerate. Would have happily played in 30fps if it meant I could go co-op with my bro - which I might add is what we've done since the very first game, this being the only one to not have splitscreen co-op.
It may be 2015, but not everyone strictly plays online.

It'll be $20 next year, most likely :)

For those who played the game/beta/demo; Has the game open world maps or linear maps?

Did they change the weapon section or added new possibilities/abilities?

Well, finished the campaign twice and played with the multiplayer and frankly, this is easily the best Halo game I've ever played. The story was amazing and each level was incredibly fun and interesting.

The servers all work fine, which is especially nice after MCC and the gameplay itself is so satisfying and enjoyable.

I got the Collector's Edition. I'm enjoying the game, I already beat it by myself and now I'm replaying it Co-Op with a buddy.

I really disliked the online during the beta, but I've noticed all the improvements since then and I'm enjoying it a lot more.

The story itself was ok at best, what I hate the most about it is the fact that ALL the ads we saw didnt actually happen in the game. That's really disappointing. Even the Hunt the Truth podcast is completely irrelevant. It's completely wasted potential. I was also disappointed on how it ended too.

So I am going to give my thoughts on the game visuals after seeing numerous videos on the game:

The game keeps a constant 60FPS which is commendable and great for action games which require the fast reaction time. It achieves this through dynamic resolution scaling and dynamic model and texture swapping. The concept is pretty simple: Scale the resolution down a bit during intensive moments to keep performance high with little visual difference to the player. Then swap textures and models that are far away from the player with lower res versions to reduce work on the GPU, then swap in the high res models when the player gets close.

It's a pretty revolutionary idea, but... One giant flaw: the distance in which the swap takes place is too close. The player can visibly see the swap happen a lot of the times if they are paying attention, and it sort of just makes environments and models pop from low res to high res right in front of you. For those who have the game, you can experiment with this by focusing on an object that is far away and keep your eyes upon it while you move in. You'll notice the object completely swaps textures in front of you.

The idea itself is pretty great, but the execution is rather poor, as the idea is that the player not notice the swaps, but... They can quite easily if they are paying attention. While many people will argue that "this is not a big deal" and that they "don't care", it is a big deal as Halo 5 is produced by a studio that works for Microsoft. This pretty much shows that not even Microsoft can produce the same visuals as the PS4 on their own console.

While Halo 5 is definitely a nice looking game, I question if sacrificing Split-screen was worth it to keep the game at 60FPS if these are the other sacrifices needed to keep 60FPS. I would have rather had 30FPS and nicer looking visuals.

Just Saw that game on GOG.com, just like all the other LucasArts games. Unfortunately we'll never see a new game from that developer again, since Disney decided to close it :okiedokielokie:.

So I have the game of course, got it at launch, been playing it a lot. Only the multiplayer though, haven't touched the campaign because I have heard some pretty disappointing things about it, may play it in co-op eventually.

To be perfectly honest, this game is a disappointment. How it has an 85 on Metacritic right now is beyond baffling to me.

-No Splitscreen

-No Forge at launch

-Capture the Flag does not have its own playlist

-Neither does Strongholds

-Only 9 maps in Arena, even less maps for each individual mode

-Only 3 Warzone maps

-No Infected

-No Oddball

-The lobby system is absolutely terrible

-Warzone has balance issues

Those are some of the negatives I see and to me, the game is a 6, maybe a 7 at best. They are promising free DLC and updates, which is nice, but it shows that the game was launched in an incomplete state and the sequels are already confirmed so that further stings. The graphics are great and the gameplay is probably the best in the entire series which is definitely good, and it has an addictive factor to its gameplay but still I feel like the game is lacking in so many ways.

The Microtransactions do not bother me though. I feel like those are done in a fair way, though it does make the customization feel pointless.

@@Kyoshi: Releasing incomplete games is becoming a new common practice.

How about the Campaign mode? Are the maps non-linear or linear? Was the story interesting? Secrets to find? New mechanics?

The story is getting criticized heavily for a lot of reasons. The maps in Halo 5's story are apparently more constrained, and it's not very open world either. It's more or less about as linear as you'd expect from Halo. Not really anything ground breaking.

To be perfectly honest, this game is a disappointment. How it has an 85 on Metacritic right now is beyond baffling to me.

Because reviewers are bought out at this point. If a game is mediocre, they will give it decent ratings so they don't lose review support from the publishers. Critics are bought and sold these days, and even independent ones are being bought and sold. Like if I recall a recent survey on Youtube showed that 20% of partners have been made offers to give positive reviews of products or games. I remember a few people getting in trouble because they were asked to review a product and they didn't give it a positive review and they got a legal team on their ass. What's even more is people will try and take down negative reviews as well with any way they know such as bullshit copyright claims.

I always check fan reviews these days over the people who are paid to review, though you have to ignore the fanboys.

-No Splitscreen

60FPS they just felt was "so important" even though the game suffered in many instances for it, and it was kind of pointless at this point because Xbox Gamers had just accepted that the Xbox One wasn't going to get 1080p, 60FPS games. They had already been okay with that, so it isn't necessary to try and get that for them.

-No Forge at launch

Probably to push the game out at holiday season.

-Capture the Flag does not have its own playlist -Neither does Strongholds

I... Can't even fathom an explanation for that one...

-Only 3 Warzone maps

You would think they would include more since this is the mode they are pushing because they are getting microtransactions off of it... Kind of dumb on their part.

-No Infected

Maybe they will try and sell it as a DLC?  :P

-No Oddball -The lobby system is absolutely terrible -Warzone has balance issues

All an issue of them rushing to get the game out for November. I wish they would just delay for another month or 2 for a finished up game.

Those are some of the negatives I see and to me, the game is a 6, maybe a 7 at best. They are promising free DLC and updates, which is nice, but it shows that the game was launched in an incomplete state and the sequels are already confirmed so that further stings.

Yeah it kind of feels like "Hey you just bought this game, and we know it's mediocre, but this NEXT GAME will be hot."

The Microtransactions do not bother me though. I feel like those are done in a fair way, though it does make the customization feel pointless.

Yeah, and I honestly feel like microtransactions are never "done right" or fair. Even if they only affect one mode. If I really like that mode... It's kind of like... "Fuck you for wanting to EARN stuff through gameplay. We're going to give the extra skins, shooty guns and shit to people who just have rich parents who get them whatever they want." It kind of makes the merit of unlocking stuff feel lesser. Like I liked the effort of unlocking the katana in Halo 3, it kind of sucks to think that nowadays people can just buy it. It makes me feel like my effort in earning it is less rewarded because (and I know this sounds hipster and whiny) it feels like now my achievement in accomplishing something that was a challenge means nothing to other players. they are just going to think I'm another person who bought it. It used to be an indicator that I clearly had played a while and I was a skilled player that I could complete that many challenges to get these items. Now it's all meaningless.

Like it makes me feel like in modern games that they  are trying to DISCOURAGE you to play the game more. No more trying to get better to unlock stuff, just buy it, and then be done with it. It's like they are purposely trying to decrease replay value or something?
