Video games and people don't mix.

There's no way to stop the dicks you meet in games other than take off the headset or play single player games, i remember in a CoD Zombies game we were on wave 40, 2 friends 1 random, and on the way to do something (can't remember what) this random blocked me and on of my friends off, waited till the zombies killed us then left... we all just sat there as our one remaining friend ran off like, "What... the... fuck... WHAT THE FUCK C*NT!?"

I've tolled a fair bit in the past but I've made sure not to grief... unless they were grieving me in which case i'll either leave or i will pull out the biggest BS i can and pound you into the ground for an hour... then leave... yes i'm bitter. I've also told people to kill themselves get cancer etc, but that's always when i'm in a party with friends and not in game chat where they can hear, if i'm in game chat i just sit back and chill in an argument like, "ah-huh... yea... sure... whatever, if i'm a noob what are you mister bottom of the leaderboard?"

As a society we can not feed the trolls that's about all, a lot needs to change but nothing will... maybe if game companies looked into reports like MMO's tend to do trolls and abusers would die down a little.

Me and my friend have had our lives threatened when we were 15 but a 23 year old... it was because me friend didn't like 2 guns he did and i chose my friends (15) side because i knew him IRL since i was 12.

The bully takes it too far when they threaten someone's life or tells them to kill themselves (where the abused can hear) everything else i believe don't let it get to you, if it does leave if they follow go into single player games, block, report it's worked for me so far.

I usually do one of these five things in face of ill-mannered gamers:

- Continue dominating them as usual

- Improve via practice and then start dominating them when I see them again

- Ignore them if I feel lazy

- Take screenshot, report button

- Return to real life while they continue to waste their time harassing people in a virtual world

Basically, not giving them any attention, while doing what I could do to make sure they don't experience as much pleasure from harassing others.

I do not get upset over insults and trolling in games. I generally respond whimsically and unaffected. I never feel it's "going too far" because if you don't like what you are hearing you can mute, report or leave that game. I am not offended by what some 15 year old kid in Arizona said to me over Left 4 Dead 2.

You: All gamers are bullies

The gaming community can get pretty terrible, but it's not like what you say. ''Video games and people don't mix'' well that applies for some people, but a lot of people on the internet are really nice, while some are b******.

Have you yourself been the troll? Have you done anything to stop the bullying? What can we do as a society to stop these jerks? Do you think anything needs to be changed? Have you ever been threatened over a game or in person? When do you think the bully takes it too far?

  1. No, I do not tend to stoop to their levels.
  2. Yes, I ban them, report them to staff, or mute / block them.
  3. Sadly, nothing. When it comes to this kind of thing, Society really doesn't know how to handle this. I guess the best bet would be to teach people to not bully others online, but that usually doesn't work either.
  4. Yes. Games need better reporting and moderation systems.
  5. I've been threatened, DDoS'd, and Doxxed (good thing I was using a VPN and they got my VPN's info and not my own.) But I've never been actually threatened by somebody in real life over a video game.
  6. When they start physically attacking you or try to actually kill you over the fact that you killed them in Call of Duty, or blew up their house in Minecraft.

I don't personally play League, so I don't know if this applies here. But my general attitude in Counter Strike is "If the other team doesn't want you to kill yourself, then you're playing the game wrong"

Nothing's funnier to me than pissing people off just by playing the game normally. But I might just feed off of other people's anger. I don't know.

Dude this is a serious case of 'don't let it get to your head.' I stopped taking anything people said to me over the internet at a first glance. If possible, just mute the guy. If you can't, just don't provoke him and continue doing what you're doing. I don't think the title of this thread is appropriate because people can play games, not be jerks, and have a nice time. But going on about it instead of ignoring it is the first sign that the troll won because he got to you.

With the way all gaming is going online nowadays there's not going to be a way to avoid it in the future. And age really doesn't factor into how annoying these people can be. There are some 40+ something year olds that act like they got a cactus stuck up their asses a lot more times than with kids. Kids just repeat the same copy and paste insult they are weak insults it's when you're talking to some older person they really get all personal about it.

I smell irony here! Mainly because I just had an experience earlier on Halo 5. One guy said one question as if he was talking to everyone, I responded and he insults me, horribly. Then not too long after that, they started to insult me for being autistic, which is funny because they did not even know that I actually AM autistic. Yeah, adults that use that as an insult and dehumanize you for it. We weren't even competing against each other. This was just people that were in a lobby and decided to be some of the worst that humanity has to offer, with no motivation whatsoever.

So it is not the games, it is the people. there are many, many terrible people out there. The best option is to just ignore them, don't give them any fuel to go off of. When they realize that their pathetic attempts at insults are not phasing you, then they will realize that they are wasting their time, as if their time is even valuable in the first place.

Just mute those who annoy you and block them if you have to. If you constantly run into jerks, turn your video game settings to mute all on whatever video game you might be playing so you don't have to listen to people when you don't want to.

I sometime come by some players who thinks they can taunt you just to throw you off. Better to either let them be or beat them in their own game. Sometime that second part don’t happen often but hell, I’m like what? Too old for this? I’m not going to let some punks and their troll ruin my gaming experiences. I know they obviously don’t have a life so best to swap them away like flies and move on to the next match.
