Would staying with Hasbro really be so bad?

Something has been really going on my nerves with this fandom, has been the constant finger pointing at Hasbro, whenever somebody got a C&D for their fan content. Notable victims of these where Mane6 with their Fighting is Magic game and JanAnimations and his webseries Buttons Adventures. The Fandom immediatly jumped the gun and started to point their fingers at Hasbro, saying how stupid they are, that the Fandom should boycott, or even suggested that MLP should be handled by another company, Disney being the one i hear of the most.

Personally, i think people who are suggesting this don't know anything about Disney, or other companies that show cartoons. Hasbro is actually pretty tame when it comes to fan content, or showing episodes.

For example, it's alot more easier to find My little pony episodes on the web, then shows like Gravity Falls, which are made by Disney and the times you find episodes of Gravity Falls, they are probably zoomed in or are mirrored to avoid copyright.

Another thing is, that our fandom culture is so big, because Hasbro leaves almost everyone alone. It's known that a company like Disney has there eyes on pretty much everything and they are immediatly jumping the gun, if a fanwork only slightly resembles one of their trademarks.

I am actually happy that we have Hasbro. Do you think another company would have a guy like Mike Vogel, who is in constant communication with the Fandom? I don't think so.

What do you guys think? Should the MLP trademark go another company, or is it good where it is?

I have to say that i agree. although i always thought the blame Hasbro thing was a joke, you know like the M.A Larson thing.

But the thing is like you said Hasbro is VERY nice to us Bronies. I mean they let the VA's go to conventions and such, the let alot of the fan stuff go like the countless plush makers and comic all kinds of stuff, even when they are making money off their characters, like with the plush makers.

IDK i guess what i am trying to say is i have been quite happy with they ways Hasbro has treated us.

Never heard about the part where people believe Disney would be better than Hasbro but I wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro jumps ship and sells their IPs including MLP when things go low. Is Disney any better? Of course not they get upset about their cartoon characters painted in daycare centers.

This is a childish toy line + show, and people interested in it are likely to have childish tastes -- but also childish personalities.

Childish people are incredibly egocentric and are unable to understand complex social systems or legal workings much larger than themselves. Thus, when a brony project runs into trouble with Hasbro, bronies see only two parties: the project team, and Hasbro (aka the Big Bad Wolf, Batman, the Jews, etc.)

Hasbro goes out of its way to ignore brony projects and has even partnered with WeLoveFine to explicitly license brony artists to produce merchandise. Hasbro will very, very rarely come after fans of any of its properties for mere copyright infringement, because guess what: pissing off your fans isn't healthy for your product, and Hasbro knows this.

But the U.S. Trademark Office doesn't care, and that's the kill switch: if you violate trademarks, which you generally will, Hasbro will ignore you for as long as they can get away with it; but once they can no longer pretend they don't know what you're doing, you've got to go, or else the Trademark Office will void Hasbro's trademark(s) on the reasoning that they're not diligently protecting it, so they must not be using it.

If Hasbro's trademarks are annulled, it becomes open season for other companies to either imitate or outright defame their brands.

Those Big Bad Corporate Overlords at Hasbro

But yeah, as much shit as people give Hasbro, lets be honest they're very tame compared to most companies when it comes to fan content

I guess if MLP would go to another Company, some things on the show might change.

And the Fandom will go Apeshit about it and probably say things like : This Idiots dont understand, how Mlp has to be at all! They probably never watched the show! I guess we can say goodbye to Fim...

I for myself, wouldnt care. Even if i would watch the show regularly as i did, i wouldnt care. Im very open for change.

But when i see, how people raged about Equestria Girls, i think it would get even much MUCH worse, if the series would go to another Company.

And im pretty sure, that even if the changes were done by the original MLP Staff, some Bronys would still just blame the new Company and probably even write a petition that the right go back again   Every Fandom has this kind of Fans.

I personally would find it great. Another Company, having the Rights to Mlp? More possibilities for the Franchise.

Maybe a Spinoff? New Drawing Style? Bigger Budget Movies? Video Games?

I would love the idea, that a new Company would also be behind Mlp.

Disney is pure evil. A corporate monster that swallows franchises to make money. It's only a matter of time before they buy their own country, and start World War3. Maybe I'm over reacting.

I'll stick with Hasbro, thanks.  Disney would C&D fanworks completely off of the Internet and enslave the show's staff into churning out poorly-written pony eps. until they've bled every last drop of profit from the fanbase.

Surely if we compare Hasbro to Disney .. well..I have no doubt about the fact that MLP should remain in Hasbro.

Instead, if we want to talk about the quality of the cartoon ..........well ..... who knows ?! it's hard to say.

You nailed it Hypno. Hasbro is a company that is far more fair than this fandom gives them credit for. Honestly, it annoys me to no end when I see this fandom hate on Hasbro so much.It seems that many of the things that Hasbro has done that seem 'horrible' are forced on the company. The copyright protection, the original pulling of Derpy, this stuff seems like it was out of their control. They aren't a perfect company, but then again no company is.

They could have easily said no to Slice of Life, an episode that is pretty much made for Bronies with Derpy as the main character, but instead, they allowed it in full. That is saying something. As long as the season 5 finale is not completely botched, then I say keep the show with Hasbro, that is the best place for it.

I think the big reactions to C&Ds has to do with a combination with too much publicity and the fandom being kind of spoiled when it comes to copyright.

Look at how sensitive Viacom and Disney are whenever someone so much as uploads a clip from their shows. Meanwhile Hasbro will let all these fan animations pass. I'm sure if MLP moved to Disney, the fandom would be begging for it to go back to Hasbro. The only reason those projects got tanked was because they got so much publicity to the point wherr Hasbro would probably be losing money from them.

Hasbro may not be perfect, but look at the alternatives. No other company that I can name seems like it would embrace the fans like Hasbro has. The changes they've made have either been to keep from being sued (Derpy to Ditzy since you can't offend the mentally disabled), or just to show they retain control of their property. My biggest personal gripe is how they gave Lauren Faust the boot. Other than that I'm a content little pony with Hasbro.

Honestly, Disney isn't a bad company at all. If Disney loves something more than it loves money, it's still the idea of making people have wonderful experiences, trying to inspire people, and letting our imaginations roam free. The reason they got Star Wars was because they partnered with George Lucas for ages anyway, and by obtaining the franchise they can make sure that it succeeds- they can also better give it the attention it needs. Same with the Marvel universe. They've been doing great with cartoons, the movies, and I heard they're going to open rides based on Marvel movies. You can't tell me that isn't exciting. Marvel could have never done that on its own.

That being said, I don't want Disney to take hold of the MLP franchise. Hasbro may be a money hungry company, but they've done well with MLP so far. I don't see a new for them to give the franchise away.

While I am not a huge fan of Hasbro I am perfectly fine with how they have handled the show minus the season 5 hiatus and discovery family's advertisement of the show.  But that isn't really a deal breaker to me.

Hasbro got this show to have 6 seasons, a theatrical released movie in 2017, IDW comics, allowed for Slice of Life to be made, let this fanbase to become as big as it has, and brony merchandise for places like Hot Topic and WeLoveFine.

Also about Disney, with the way they've treated Gravity Falls, I don't really want it to handle MLP FIM.

If Hasbro decides to give MLP away, there are a few rights and wrongs.

The first one is if it went to Disney, as many people who replied said. It would probably ruin the Franchise because of how Disney is really greedy and evil.

If it was sold to Sony however since Sony is more relaxed on copyright the franchise could make a few changes, but Fanwork would still be allowed by that company. Plus they are not as greedy as Disney or even Hasbro would be.

So I recommend MLP staying with Hasbro for now, but if they need to sell it I recommend selling it to Sony.
