How do you want to see G4 end/G5 begin?

Since the announcement of a potential airdate for the MLP movie in 2017, people have practically been singing songs about the end of G4. Now, I'd like FIM to go out with a bang instead of a whimper as much as the next guy, but so many people seem so sure about this, even though there isn't any solid evidence as far as I know. I figured, there has to be more to it than just a "six seasons and a movie" mentality.

This got me thinking: since FIM is bound to end sooner or later to pave the way for G5, what would be your ideal end for the show? How long would you like it to last? And what would you expect from G5?

For me, as I said, a theatrical feature does seem like the way to go. There's nothing else I find myself adding to that. As for G5, it would be neat if it turned out to be a sequel to G4, set a few years after the finale. The Mane Six and the CMCs would be older, living their dreams and helping a whole new generation of ponies, like the Cake twins and Shining Armor and Cadance's baby. It'd open a whole new door to younger fans, while older fans could continue to follow the show and see where it goes.

Those are my thoughts, anyway. What about you?

That!!! right there is what I have been saying forever! when Gen 4 ends and if Gen 5 starts this is what I think would make it successful.

they would have to go back to appealing to the young crowds much like season 1 and 2 of gen 4.

Just like you, i also think that the movie is a good way to end this ride, because a movie on the big screen screams like big ending.

As for G5, we have to take certain things into consideration. It will most likely be a totally new group of writers, it will probably be a new bunch of main characters and it will also probably be a whole different world then equestria. Which i don't find that bad, since they can do new things with these characters and this world.

The thing of course is if it will actually be good or not. There is no guarantee that this will be the same quality as G4. For all we know, Hasbro brings in some amateurs that write this stuff for less money and just wants a toy commercial again.

Thank you Randimaxis for this Wonderful Avatar. smile.png

Please, don't be afraid to talk to me. I am not as unapproachable, as you might think.

^This and the existence of Teen Titans Go! -- which is the epitome of a bad sequel series -- are the primary reasons why I'm averse to G4 being replaced anytime soon.

I tried adamantly to enjoy the previous 3 generations, but I cannot budge the vehement abhorrence I feel towards them.

G1 isn't really that bad. It actually has a Disney feel to it, which I like very much.

In G2, it lost the Disney feel because it really was a slice-of-life type of thing. Some bronies even argue it's the "anti-FIM" of MLP because of what goes on in the plotline of some of the episodes, considering they're only three male characters in the show, and all the rest are female...you know how that goes down.

Now don't get me started on G3. I abhor it with an utter loathe. Lazy writing, utopian society, characters who's names and voices don't even match...too many to name

Now I wonder...if G5's gonna launch, will they call back Lauren Faust to create a new set of characters for the writers to work with? And perhaps help with the writing again? I personally don't see this happening. Nonetheless, the writers for FIM are doing a great job this season. Perhaps Hasbro may let them stay for G5...that is...IF there will even be a G5, which I know there will be.

Basically with everything here, in exact order https://mlpforums.com/topic/141741-equestria-origins-dragonfire-chronicles-mlp-generations/

There NEEDS to be an Alicorns Origin series directly in between gen 4's ending (whatever season it wraps up in), and finishes at the start of Gen 5. At the same time, a webseries focusing on teenage or Adult Spike, should be running. Poor guy needs more lovd, more market ti ng, more everything, and he's not getting much in the pony series.

Then, gen 5 should start as stated in the linked thread- https://mlpforums.com/topic/141741-equestria-origins-dragonfire-chronicles-mlp-generations/

I know, since she's got a lot more she's working on. But it'd be nice...because who knows if the current staff of writers will be dumped or will be kept...

I think Hasbro is in a position where they need to start treating My Little Pony with the same care they often do with GI Joe or Transformers. I can't see a completely new cast going over well especially when people loved the Mane 6 so much. Adding new characters is never a bad thing but I think it's possible we'll see the Mane 6 reintroduced in some way and continue being main characters like we see with Optimus Prime, Megatron, Duke, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, etc., all while adding new main characters for them to interact with

The series has a few seasons left in it.  The problem with the a fifth generation of MLP is that it will most likely end up like the previous three.  I would like to see the show end with some of my head cannon coming to light.  Celestia, stepping down as leader of Equestria and Twilight Sparkle taking her place.  In my head Celestia is weak from the thousand years of raising both the sun and moon.  She was looking for someone too take over.  Also, Twilight has a school where she can teach about both magic and friendships.   Applejack finding a stallion to help run Sweet Apple Acres and maybe have a little Apple of her own.  Rarity being the savy business pony she is take Coco Pommel under her wing and together become an unstoppable fashion team.  Pinkie Pie stays in Ponyville and continues to throw her parties for ponies.  Rainbow Dash becomes a full fledged Wonderbolt.  Fluttershy, stays in her cottage and continues to take care of the animals.  They all have a picture of all the mane 6 together but eventually grow into their own identities as mares. (Let's face it they act like the are still in high school)

As for the CMC, I can see this trio getting a spin off series for the younger children (preschool/kindergarten aged).  With adventures and learning the basics.

But seeing how the movie was announced in 2014 why the urge to know about it now?

Hey if Nickelodeon can get some of the original writers for Spongebob Squarepants back why can't Hasbro and Faust reach common ground?

G4 end:Trees of Harmony sprout throughout equestria as Princess sparkle brings the world into a new Era of friendship.

G5 begins: 100 years after G4 princess twilight finally passes.Enemies new and old see this as an opportunity to bring the world to their knees. Harmony, twilights grand daughter must find the new bearers of friendship before it's too late. This arc would take 2 episodes and include meeting old pinkie and apple jack.

Mane 6 aren’t just a part of MLP, they ARE MLP. It would be a folly to remove them or push them to the background.

The thing that G5 needs is to let go of the whole FIM lessons thing and make interactions more organic. By 2017, this concept will be exhausted, so I guess a reboot would be in order. They also need some veteran writers to babysit their nooblords. It’s one thing to write good enough episodes in a well-established show, another is to start anew. Striking a good balance between novelty and familiarity is very hard.

G4 in my opinion should end with the movie in 2017, with Twilight and Cadence taking over from Celestia and Luna with two new Alicorns.

G5 should be a prequel set back when Twilight Sparkle went to Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns and it would be known by us fans as "Season 0." It would also have some of Twilight's old friends in it.

Personally, if we do get a gen 5, I do hope they reformat the show.... as good as the current gen is, future gens will need to be more interesting, and do things a bit differently to keep interest of the fans.... I really hope they take more risks with gen 5, and possibly bump the E for everyone rating to a PG rating...

That's right. G1 had that adventure feel, as G2 was a modern slice of life with phones and TV.

and gen 3 makes me want to inflict massive self harm among myself.... its a heinous piece of work devoid of creativity, and full to brim with pandering nonsense.

*looking at the posts stating that G5 should be a sequel/prequel* You guys do realize that a new Gen would be a complete reboot right? All the other gens after G1 were a reboot like all generations of Transformers after G1 and the Beast Era were reboots.

Eh, not necessarily...... take Digimon for example..... its been through a few gens, but everything from the beginning is still part of the same universe...

Mind you though, I don't think Digimon has a Multiverse like Hasbro (or North American Cartoon Franchises in general) tends to have with their franchises but to be fair, you do have a point. Right after I posted my last statement my error hit me in the face via Transformers Generation 2 depending on what you go by (Through shows, it was just re-releases of Gen 1 episodes with bad CGI while the comics, which have earned the nickname Punisher Formers, are supposed to be reboot but the narrative implies its a sequel to the last gen)

Hope I don't get banned for saying this, but...

I hope Hasbro will introduce a new Gen after an interval of several years. Just like they did in the past. Gen1 launched in 1982, Gen2 around 1997-ish and Gen3 in the early 2000s... There's always been a hiatus of at least 5 years.

I want to move on and then see a reboot of the MLP franchise when I least expect it.  :squee: A surprisingly good reboot that drags me back into the fandom! And even though I love Faust's designs to bits, I'd like to see the new Gen drawn in a completely different style. Anime-ish chibis maybe? Or something more Disney-like? I don't know, surprise me! I want new characters, new locations and a brand new storyline.

G4 was a big surprise to me and I'd love to experience that kind of surprise once again sometime in the future.  :D
