general media Continuity Errors in COD and Soap Operas, are Activision hypocrites?

OK, so here's a thing I've been worried about, from what I heard, Black Ops II was supposed to be another Vietnam-Era game in the series and it was supposed to focus on Reznov, but I think Activision deliberately bowdlerized it by turning it into a 2025 futuristic game, now don't get me wrong, Black Ops II was amazing, with it's Campaign which was slightly non-linear. And it did have slight continuation. But I don't like the fact that the ''Reznov is Dead or Is He'' message is essentially meaningless. Unless of course Activision followed the ''Completion Principle'' like Scott Cawthon did, but I think it's unlikely.

The other thing that worries me is Soap Opera continuity errors. Coronation Street had this storyline, where after the fire, SPOILERS. Tracy was supposed to be redeeming herself, there would be a court case. But after the boss of the show, Stuart Blackburn, got axed. I think they did what Activision did. This means that Maddie's death is Meaningless and Maddie is still alive, and that Sophie and Kevin have become Underdeveloped.

Also, are Activision hypocrites? They said during the court case against Jason West and Vince Zampella that they ''Tried to Hijack the IP for their own personal gain''. However, I think that Activision did something very Hypocritical, I think they bowdlerized Black Ops II. I'm not pleased that Black Ops III, SPOILERS. Contains no Reznov, and it basically has no continuity to the previous games apart from a reference in the beginning.

The first one is related to Activision, because I think the ''Completion Principle'' goes perfectly well with COD: Black Ops.

I believe this is essentially ITV and Activision basically screwing the entire continuity over.

What do you think?

I'm still looking at my theory.

Activision is a company that couldn't care less ever about gaming and about telling a fulfilling story. For example, Advanced Warfare's campaign, while fun in a gameplay perspective, has an incredibly painful story which is predictable from the beginning and it ends on a note of "SEQUELS! : D". And considering that at least 5 or 6 of the COD titles have ended literally in the exact same way, it is clear that Activision has no idea what a story should be. They just want something quick and easy to churn out for easy money.

While I find the campaigns fun for the most part, I'm with Kyoshi on this. Aside from the stretch between MW1 to Black Ops 1, story-telling was never a strong suit, or priority for the series.

They didn't bowdlerized it. They decided to change a game settings and plot. Also in what way does this make them hypocrites?

Because they said that ''Infinity Ward tried to Hijack [Call of Duty] for their own gain'', yet they did it themselves. Apparently from what I heard Black Ops II was going to be set in the 1970s, but then they changed it at the last minute due to Activision.

Also, you forgot ITV and Corrie.

30 years ago Activision was the first third-party game company dedicated to make great and original games like Pitfall.

Now they don't give a crap about their old IP's and crapping out the same obvious outdated games every fucking time.

I hope they'll have a hard time when the new Doom comes out.

Black Ops 3 has the best story of all the CoD games I've played. I love that they decided to skip the dull old typical war story plot and go completely nuts with the campaign. AI soldierbots, giant mechs, Surreal and spooky events, the works. It was so left field of the average CoD plot that it was impossible to not be engaged.

As for your soap operas comment, I don't watch those but I feel like this is just a case of terrible writing, and isn't reflective of the whole genre(especially as you only gave one example, which makes it look like your beef is with the show itself).

The last COD game I played was the first Black Ops (which was pretty good). From what I've been led to believe, the only COD games people have actually liked since MW2 have been the Black Ops series. Even then, not as many people liked Black Ops II. Is this true?

Activision are one of the worst gaming company's around. They don't care about the people who play their games and tend to not even listen when most of the community point out their mistakes.

If you want a example of a company that just cares about money then Activision is it.

Changing the plot and setting for a game you own is not hijacking it.

And there's even 0 communication between the fans and Activision. It's one of the most isolated game publishers you could get.

I wish Treyarch could just do what pre-2010 Infinity Ward did, split, start a new company and make an original Black Ops inspired game about Betrayal and evil people.

That's right. And Activision doesn't which developer makes CoD as long as they could make the same unchanged game every half year or more.

Yeah, I know. But Treyarch, I mean they should split up and make an Original IP, just how most of the old members of Infinity Ward split up to work on Titanfall, which is literally the Most Underrated Shooter ever made. Only 2000 people play it weekly.

What I mean is, an Original IP, a war epic, inspired by the original Black Ops and Syndicate, about a man who gets betrayed and left for dead by his combat buddy and his henchmen, and works his way through Vietnam, Soviet Russia and eventually a secret futuristic environment built by his former combat buddy, to get lectured by his combat buddy about how ''Inhuman'' a soldier is. And he kills his Combat Buddy, only to realize that it's part of a Larger Network of this secret organization, similar to the Illuminati, that will try to bring a New World Order on mankind. And it would span 3 games.

If Infinity Ward did it, then Treyarch can.

That being said, Advanced Warfare's Campaign wasn't that bad. Not as bad as Ghosts, Ghosts had a decent campaign, but ''They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot'', like in the TV Tropes trope of the same name. Some bad guys hijack a space station for no apparent reason other than for world domination and it is not known how they got there in the first place, hopefully next year there will be a sequel that will change all that.

I heard rumors though, that MW4 could be coming out next year. But I think it's more likely Ghosts 2, I think Modern Warfare was a Trilogy, and they ended at 3.

The only problem with AW's Campaign was that it began with a hand, and ended with a hand. As in, Mitchell's prosthetic hand he was given at the beginning of the game.
