I'm not a very cool person myself, so I was wondering if you could give a few pointers to a creepy and weird pony like myself, on how I can still be myself, and well liked by other ponies.

 

*shrug* Act confident. Even if you aren't, at least try to be social. You don't have to turn into somepony like me, but give yourself a likeable attitude and friends will come.

 

Course, don't lose sight of who you are. Some people *snicker* Twilight *snicker* just aren't going to win Popular Pony of the Year.

Do you think that the Ask Thread section is in need of a revision, concerning its current state amongst users these days?

I personally find it quite aggravating that many users are carrying on as if it's a large rule-less Role-Play section. A complaint that is compounded by the fact that users will presume that their questions and conduct can span in-between Ask threads and expect each one to be aware of each other, as if all the Ask threads are one giant interwoven game. Many users probably are not aware of this meta-game, and their humble threads get drowned out by already established threads which often consist of said impromptu quasi-RPing between Askers, or just inane questions like "How are you today".

 

If this question is going to be dismissed by an in-character Rainbow Dash, I will bring it up with a different moderator.

First of all, if you wanted my opinion, you really should have asked me in a PM, rather than posting in a thread designed for Rainbow Dash's responses. It sort of disrupts the flow of the thread by forcing me out-of-character to respond to your query.

 

And secondly, you have to admit that the "Ask a Pony" threads kind of are roleplays, at least to the person acting as a pony. That's what roleplaying is, after all, pretending to be a pony, which is what we are doing. Although the original function of the threads was to "ask" the pony a question that they would answer in-character, this part of the forum only got as much attention as it did because members started interacting with said "thread ask-ponies", asking for life advice, dropping by for friendly greetings, and basically pretending that they were real, friendly people ponies ready to interact with a variety of scenarios the asker may sometimes propose, rather than stick with a simple "insert question, spit out answer" thread. If you think about the very nature of these threads, something like this was bound to happen.

 

And to be honest, the Ask threads are popular now because people enjoy doing this. Legitamate questions aren't being drowned out, there just aren't enough of them to ask. Exactly like how a conversation with another human may run dry when neither person can think of something to say, there's only so many queries you can bring up with a "pony" before you're simply out of ideas - especially considering the lull between seasons, and the subsequent lack of new in-show material to comment on. Take away the imaginative questions/comments that users like to generate to fill the gap and I guarantee you that this entire subsection of Cloudsdale will be filled with tumbleweeds within a week.

 

And finally, that brings me to my last point. This is a section of Cloudsdale Colosseum. It's meant to be fun. If it were its own subsection with its own rules, that would be different. But all it really is, is a silly pasttime that members enjoy. Why take that away from them?
