How would you defend yourself if a pony fights you?

Considering how strong IRL horses are I think I'd be screwed if one really wanted to fight me, especially if they still have magic. My only real option would be to pull a Joseph Joestar and run away

Well, there was a statement from one of the staff to the effect of "if you see unusually advanced technology, assume it runs on magic:".

 

Though between unicorn magic, earth pony strength, and pegasus speed, my best hope would probably be diplomacy - find out why the pony wants to fight, and explain that it won't accomplish anything. Or just try to pet them and hope it gets somewhere.

Throw a carrot. The pony will go to eat the carrot instead of trying to buck my teeth in. The pony gets some food, and I get to leave unscathed. A good ending for both parties!

Some humans (me) might get hungry and try to compete with the pony for the carrot that I just threw. Then we are at another impasse.
