Rarity is more Earth Pony than unicorn?

I guess she must, because it's canon, according to "Sonic Rainboom". Twilight reads directly from a book in her library, when sne says the title of "a spell that allows EARTH ponies to fly for 3 days". Rarity, after being within earshot of Twilight, says that she would volunteer to be the subject Of that spell, after hearing that it was a spell intended for EARTH PONIES.

 

Seeing as how the spell wouldn't have worked, and given Rarity wings, had she been a Pegasus (duh), or a Unicorn (creator of the spell testing it on their own kind, seeing as how unicorns are royal class? Not likely) But the spell did work on Rarity, in spite of her being a unicorn, so she must be carrying more Earth Pony magic and genes, rather than unicorn, for it to have worked.

 

Wonder if her being obviosly major Earth pony explains her magical connection/talent to find more earth-based objects, like gemstones formed naturally by the earth. And if memory serves, in "the return of harmony", she carried Tom with lttle effort, while Twilight had difficulty. And knocking 3 Wonderbolts out with her bare hooves... which means sh also has Earth pony strength.

I don´t think that Twilight saying that the spell allows earth ponies to fly is any proof. The spell only gives wings to ponies that don´t have wings, and unicorns and earth ponies are practically the same in that aspect. (They both don't have wings.)

There is no reason why the spell wouldn't work on unicorns while it does on earth ponies. That would be illogical. There is nothing in either of those races that has a connection to any wing-related stuff, so there shouldn't be any problems when giving wings.

 

Secondly, Rarity having a talent involving gems says nothing. Your talent does not define your race, as shown by Fluttershy. She definitely is a Pegasus, but has a talent involving nature. Octavia has an upperclass cutiemark, (she plays in fancy, rich orchestras,) but she's an earth pony. Your race does not define who you are, or vice versa.

That line doesn't immediately lock the spell to Earth Ponies. It appears that it was intended more for earth ponies, being non-magical and unable to fly, would find it hardest to fly. That doesn't mean that it's exclusive to them, just that it was made primarily with them in mind.

All these other points are arbitrary. She was under magical influence when carrying Tom and likely didn't notice the strain over her obsession(also, it's a cartoon). All ponies are generally strong and a solid flailing kick is bound to hurt them(again, it's also a cartoon). Finally, she has a horn. This isn't a case of how you feel inside. These are hard biological states. She has a horn, therefore she is a unicorn. The horn is real, obviously. She is fluent in casting magic. She is a unicorn. Pretty straightforward.

I think Twilight has created a misunderstanding about Unicorns. Yes, they can all use magic, but Twilight uses it extensively. Kind of like how Rainbow Dash always flies. Not every unicorn will use magic all the time, like how Fluttershy, despite being a Pegasus, doesn't fly everywhere.

 

But yeah, Rarity is a unicorn.

Pretty much all farmer or more rural looking ponies are earth ponies and there is no sign of a horn on him.

Neither of the Cakes are Pegasus ponies, and they even state that the race of an offspring isn't entirely determined by their direct parents. So there's no reason why her father being an earth pony would support OP's claim.

Rarity is often shown using very complex Unicorn magic in her work. She isn't as powerful as Twilight, but it quite gifted. Sorry, but I think season one episode six "Boast Busters" totally disproves your theory. Rarity clearly declares herself to be a Unicorn in the following dialog exchange...

I said she must have more Earth pony genes than she does unicorn genes, for Twilight's earth pony spell to work on her. Her Earth pony genes/ magic Could be by just a margin more than her unicorn genes, for her to still look like a unicorn and have unicorn magic. But I can't believe Rarity's 100% unicorn, from how the spell worked on her, and was meant to work on EARTH ponies

I'm sure the only reason they said Earth Ponies was to emphasize the spell being designed for use on non flying ponies. I doubt it's specifically tailored to only work on those wielding Earth Pony magic. Otherwise, wouldn't it have been out of the question to even consider using Rarity as a test subject?

 

As far as we know anyway... Rarity is a full blooded Unicorn. Every member of her known family is a Unicorn as well.

 

 

It's an interesting thing, isn't it? Apparently genetics affect the type of magic a pony can wield.

I don't see why not. I didn't necessarily put that up to support the OP's claim but he can use it however he wants. 

 

I feel that Rarity shows feats of strength because it's just funny for a ladylike pony to act like that. But hey who knows her father appears to be an earth pony so far.

Rarity is more unicorn than earth pony, she can do other spells than levitation, in "Rarity takes Manehattan" she fixed a wheel, in "Look before you sleep" she got rid of that tree using magic, in "Boast busters" when she confront Trixie, using only a curtain she transform it in to a dress in a few seconds also she did her mane in the process, that spell was impressive, Rarity has some earth pony similarities : just like Applejack she is a hard worker and she fight with her hooves some times so she must have some earth pony genes from her father (i assume he is a earth pony), but most of the time she uses magic rather than physical strength.

So what if she has some earth pony in her background?   I mean the Cakes show they have both or all three races in their gene pools given the twins they had!    Maybe the earth pony lets her tap into earth magic?   Giving her that strength when she needs to call on it or even in a panic it pops up?  She held own also against the  Dogs in a fight and has proven that unicorn has a mean kick to her even as a lady.  Or if Rare does not use magic for every little thing?   Shows she knows when to hold back and be a more hoofs on type of unicorn in common sense of the energy needed for uses of magic.

 

If Rare has the Earth Pony genes,  it just shows all the more how more in depth she is and pony kind and also how a lady can handle herself.

I'm gonna be honest how I feel even tho its probably mean, I always felt bad about earth ponies because its so awesome being a pegasus soaring the sky reaching amazing speeds and unicorns can do anything including flying, whats so special about earth ponies if not strength ?

Well I think we're thinking into it a little too much but if I was to want an explanation it's either she may have earth pony relations but the unicorn gene is the dormant gene so is more unicorn than earth pony and the earth pony traits can pop up when she needs it or she's just a real strong personality and is really passionate about things

Rarity uses her magic 24/7 to make dresses and such, and she still fears getting mucky and getting her clothes dirty which is exactly the opposite of an earth pony. So I doubt that she is even close to being one.
