cider float 2,538 February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 It's viewers would be mostly children or bronies that have closely followed the MLP series. For those that never knew about MLP how would they find any appeal in this?
JeyWiz 1,097 February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 (edited) Well, I consider it a great idea! I like how even if the mane 6 were turned into human beings, that did not stop them from being who they are in the actual show. The villains were also pretty likeable. Maybe they could have made the setting a little more interesting than a cliched high school teen drama, since I'm not into that stuff. Nevertheless, Equestria Girls is honestly not as bad as how we all predicted it would be. Heck, I'm even one of the biggest fans of the spinoff! And also, the idea of humanizing MLP, which was what the fandom decided to do, was a pretty good idea to begin with. Bizarre Wizard 4,999 February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 Hasbro did it to take part of market of fashion dolls. It was much cheaper to stick this toy series to existing franchise than to put up new one as it did theirs competitors from Mattel with theirs Monster High. And yes. From the point of marketing it was really successful idea.
Frostgage 7,975 February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 I think so... from what I've seen, most young girls and a decent number of our fandom like it, including myself. It's just a fun thing that really doesn't carry as many negatives as some people imply :3 1 Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. All the cool kids are doing it. KillSh0ck4 102 February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 I'd say it was a brilliant idea! And sure you could say this is Hasbro making a cash grab but at the end of the day we still watch the equestria girls films and most of us do enjoy it. I'd say I'm a really big fan of equestria girls and prefer it a little more than FIM.
JonasDarkmane 19,785 February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 I think Equestria Girls was a good idea . It was a nice change and I really loved the atmosphere from the movies . As to focus on the other question, would it be a good idea for people who have not introduced themselves to MLP before? I would have to say no. There are quite a lot of references to MLP in EG, so I think if one hasn't introduced oneself to MLP, then one will not get/understand EG. But to be very frank, whether people will like it or not or whether the movies are good or not, is of course subjective. To each of their own. Some who have not introduced themselves to MLP might still like EG ^w^ Signature by @Kyoshi Ask Me Matsunaga Hisahide's death https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKT5Khp3-0U
PiratePony 8,475 February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 Great idea. Hasbro's made quite a bit of money on it - because my daughter loves ponies, she's now more inclined to get EG dolls. I don't like Monster High, personally, and she already has a few Barbies. Plus the movies are fun and good - we got the DVD triple pack. So as far as an idea, I think that it's been great for those who like MLP: FIM and it's a nice supplement to that, while breaking a little bit into the fashion doll market and feature length animated movies division, enough for three sequels (counting 4) thus far. Megas 27,630 February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 (edited) At first I probably would've said no it wasn't, but now considering how successful the movies have been and the fanbase its gained, now I'd say yes it was a great idea Edited February 4, 2016 by Megas
Guest February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 It was a good idea, the idea was to kind of reach out to the slightly older audience. The show appeals to around the 5-8 bracket while the movies kind of capture that 8-12 bracket. Judging by the success it's had though, I'd say it was a good idea. They wanted to also get in on a market that Mattel has been dominating with Monster High and Barbie, which they managed to get into. Honestly I think everyone gives these movies a really hard time but a lot of them secretly like them, I mean we've all seen my graphic before: I mean every goes on about how they loathe these movies and yet I can't find one service they are one where they get bad scores. So really I think the people who hate them are either the vocal minority, or they secretly like them. Remember it's "cool" to hate things, liking things doesn't make you stand out. GeekySonic 1,150 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 I guess, yeah. I usually watch them to pass time, like when I'm falling asleep or doing homework. They're not exactly great, but I think they have a certain charm to them. Plus the movies are fun and good - we got the DVD triple pack. It irked to no end when I discovered the triple pack AFTER individually purchasing the movies. Oh well, win some, lose some. Sidral Mundet 1,666 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 Most definitely in my opinion. I like them far more than the two-parters in the show (outside Return of Harmony) and Sunset Shimmer is my second favorite character in the franchise. I mean she's basically the Vegeta of the group and she's the only pony to take the main lead of a big fantasy type story outside of Twilight Sparkle. I also love the continuity in these movies, that each one builds upon the other but doesn't lock anyone out from understanding what's going on. So yeah I'm definitely a fan. Also My Past is Not Today was freaking fantastic! Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.

Mlp13 62 February 9, 2016 Share February 9, 2016 It's not a good idea. IT'S AN AWESOME IDEA!!If it wasn't for EG.. there will be HUNDREDS of fanfic about the mane six as human..with AJ being muscular ( I HATE IT) The only problem with EG is whenever I tried to daydream about a mlp crossover with any cartoon, I have to decide to use EG or ponies..

cider float 2,538 February 9, 2016 Author Share February 9, 2016 (edited) Pffft. Children don't care. Nonbrony adults care even less. But why would non-bronies go see it? Gives them no incentive to. I'm talking about the overall success of Equestria Girls. Every movie gets refitted somewhat to appeal to a broader audience trying to include interests towards those that weren't a fan to the associated content. Marvel movies does this, it doesn't make the movie as accurate to the comics and puts a few quirks for non-Marvel fans to still enjoy it somewhat so they would come to watch it. I guess if I wasn't a brony and I watched the movie (god knows why as a non-brony) I wouldn't get it. I would be wondering they are ponies... but they are also humans in this other world? What? DeadRightNowBoi 161 February 9, 2016 Share February 9, 2016 I definitely think Equestria Girls was a great Idea indeed. I did feared for the show when I first heard about it though, but after watching all three films, my opinions completely changed! I love Equestria Girls, and it'd be so cool if they decided to make a new series for Equestria Girls! Plus, the films have given us Sunset Shimmer! I love Sunset Shimmer!!! KatonRyu 1,033 February 11, 2016 Share February 11, 2016 Certainly from a business perspective the idea was brilliant, since it allows Hasbro to compete with Monster High and other franchises like it and draw in those audiences, while at the same time creating new content for the existing MLP fans. And, as @Solar Cloud said, the movies gave us Sunset Shimmer, who became awesome starting with RR.
Mesme Rize 15,683 February 11, 2016 Share February 11, 2016 It was from a business standpoint a very good idea. The toys sell very well and Hasbro makes a good amount of money out of them. When it comes to the movies, that's another story for itself. 1 My OC Mesme Rize: >https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/mesme-rize-r8777 Thank you Randimaxis for this Wonderful Avatar.
