My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Fluttershy

How did you find MLP Forums?:

How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic:

So many Bronies and Pegasisters are quite young but I was wondering how many Pony fans are 18+ and how they got into the show?

Do you feel as though it is a guilty pleasure or feel as though you can't admit you watch the show?

I'm in my early 20s and love the show so much I can't explain. I wish I lived in Equestria..

I started watching MLP when I was 17 I think, now I'm 19 and I still watch it. A little bit of curiosity led me to watching the show. I only let a few of my close friends know that I like the show so it's a bit of a guilty pleasure.

I'm 21 now and started watching the show at around 18-19. I got into the show by flipping through channels and randomly stumbled across an MLP episode. I loved G3 as a little girl and was excited to see that there was a new generation, so I gave it a watch. Pretty soon I was looking up the rest of the episodes on YouTube. Eventually, I found Equestria Daily to keep up with the news on future seasons (that's also when I learned more about "brony culture"). It was great knowing others my age and older also liked the show. ^^

I'm not that open about my interest in MLP, though my parents know and don't mind. In fact, they've been pretty curious about the fandom and love to ask questions about it.

I'm 22 and started when I was 19.

I saw it randomly in german on TV already, but tought typically that it is a show for kids/girls. It was on a PlayStation Forum in 2013, that one of my best friends online suddenly had Flutters as his profile picture. Some jokes and a randomn RP "to save him", I got the plan to "Watch some episodes to find the weaknesses of the ponies". Mayby it was curiousity, mayby not, but after watching the first 2 episodes, I keeped looking. I think after 4-6 episodes, I officially liked the show.

Of course I keeped it hidden first. Not 100% trying, but not just outright telling either. It actually worked until the end of 2013, where my big brother noticed my pony picture on said PS-Forum and asked me.

The moment I was like "Buck it" and didn't cared anymore, went to my FB and wrote a post saying, that I'm a fan, so everyone can know.

Weird.  I posted in this thread but somehow it was lost when it was moved.   Let me try again.

I've continued to enjoy animation throughout my life.  "Outgrowing" cartoons simply wouldn't happen to me although I am sometimes wary about who I express this interest with.  Anyway there was always some program out there that would captivate me.  In the past it was cartoons like Transformers, Animaniacs, Yugioh, Digimon, or Powerpuff Girls.  But in 2011 my then best friend convinced me to watch a couple episodes of this "new" My Little Pony with her.  Long story short, I soon became hooked and the rest was history.  ;)

FYI I am 44.  :P

I don't remember exactly, but I'm more than sure I got into MLP around the age of 21, or at least that's what the receipts tell me.

I started when I was in college, bored and watching TV and it only took a moment to realize this show was actually cool. Afterwards, I was looking for a chance to do some research at my school and one of the projects was (you guessed it) Brony studies. So, doing research on bronies, I had to remain objective as a psychology major. After finishing my research and looking at the study, I was full on Brony from there on.

I was not ashamed of it because I was already nerdy and strange to begin with. I dyed my clothes colors that intrigued me and painted designs here and there (amateur but still).

For me, I love the show because of the simplicity. Most of the lessons and morals introduced are answers to problems that become too complex because people make them that way. I find that the show just points out the obvious that we as adults forget, and as someone who studies complex human thought, I would know. Sure, I may not be as taken serious by certain people (usually those who don't inquire, ask questions, and want to know me) but I know I am accepted by those who matter such as my late fiance.

By the way, I'm twenty-six. Ha!~

Heard about the show when I was 19, but didn't start watching till I was 20. It was that period of my life after college where I began to reclaim my youth in a sense. Through out High School and college, I felt like I had to act really grown up.  No time for childish things or youthful exuberance. Not when you're decompressing from another day of sleep deprivation, dealing with social awkwardness, homework and just being talked down to and lectured at int he exact same setting day in and day out. Oh, and being treated like a criminal. (Schools and prisons are more alike than you think. Look it up.)

I had to put away all the youthful joys because it felt childish and immature. I had to be strong and stoic in the face of day to day life in school.  I had to be serious all the time. But after I left school, and unwind from it all, I realized that I was an adult. And I had the right to act like a kid again. So I indulged in the old shows I watched, the games I played, allowed myslef to have more of a soft side and enjoy things like ponies.

Basically, by being a working adult, I've earned the rights to my childhood back.

I started watching MLP when I was 18 (I'm 20 now) and I was introduced to the show by a few of my friends who were already Bronies. In the beginning, I treated watching MLP as a guilty pleasure that I'd do when I was alone, but that's changed over the years and I'm now more open about it with my other friends and even some of my family members.

I'm 25 and I started watching over a year ago, Although I was aware of the show years earlier. Like I've told a few times on this forum, the first fan material I've ever come across was Cupcakes by Sergeant Sprinkles. I enjoyed the heck out of it for a number of reasons. One was the hilarity of pastel ponies doing something with so much gore involved. When I had first read it years back, I had found it so funny and entertaining I had shared it with my college friends. One of them was like "oh...this isn't happy anymore...." XD

But it wasn't till over a year ago when I was going through a really rough patch that I thought "why not, lets get some rainbows and sunshine in my life, if it turns out to be crap I can just make fun of it"

And then I proceeded to burn through the four available seasons and the first eqg movie like a wildfire through dry brush, then I ran into bronies react, then the reviewers, and before you knew it I had gone full brony.

I'm 32 and started watching the show back in November of 2015 because I was curious why so many people liked the show. I saw the first episode and thought it was ok. Then I waited a few days before finishing the second half of the 2-part intro. Then I watched the next couple of regular timed episodes and I slowly started to like the show more and more. Then I became hooked and binge watched seasons 1,2,3, and 4 so I could be caught up for season 5.

I was 20 when I got started on it. My college roomate got on Netflix and started streaming it. I was playing a game next to the tv, but ended up watching that episode more than I played the game. I ended up looking it up on Netflix myself and watching to the end of season 4 about a week later. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure, but I don't really hide it, either.
