Why does everypony hate Flash Sentry?

I mean... I ddefinately don't LIKE him... but I don't DISLIKE him either... He's just whatever! Haha! I know that he is pretty much despised amongst the fandom so I was just curious as to why that is??

 

 

Update: So a lot of you are saying that he is a boring and unforgettable character... and I agree! But here's the thing... he's just that! Some people are really passionate about their hate for him and if the reason is that he is :boring and unforgettable", then they should just forget him! Haha! That makes sense, right? And if you think about it, ALL of the mane 6 (in pony and EG form) are also stereotypes!

Well because it has bad fuel efficiency, doesn't look that great and it's a Buick... Oh wait you mean Flash Sentry. 

 

Main reason is that they never really developed him outside of being Twilight's love interest and he was introduced around the whole EQG drama thing and some people haven't let it go. I used to really hate the guy, but now I'm actually okay with him. Still boring as all get out but he's harmless.  Wouldn't mind the writers doing something with him but if they touch him, the fandom with scream down their necks.

I don't hate him, in fact I rather like him, but there's no denying he's a flat character, being "nice and good-looking" and not having much else to him. And his forced inclusion in the story as a satellite love interest didn't net him many popularity points either. Although there are some criticisms that are pretty invalid, like "He's a jock" which he's not, and "he stole my waifu", one of the most annoyingly inane memes I've ever had the displeasure of encountering.  There's also the fact that he was hated and dubbed "Brad, the stereotypical jock" before the movie was even released, which is just prejudice. If you have a good reason for hating him, go ahead and hate him. But first make sure your reason IS a good one.

Probably because he stole people's waifu. For real, because he's a cookie cutter love interest I suppose. Personally I just don't care for him, he doesn't have much of a character to go around, so, can't really like or dislike him.

Well, Flash is quite the generic character so far. The way he was introduced makes it feel like he's nothing more than a jock love interest for Twilight. Not necessarily a bad thing, but there's nothing really likable about him compared to the Mane 6 and the immediate cast. If they decide to flesh out his character, give him more interactions with the cast and give him something unique to work with, then he could be quite the interesting pony. The potential is all there to be a core character instead of a high school crush shoe-in for the show.

He's a forgettable character and hasn't exactly shown how he's different to anyone else. Just a boring and flat love interest.

Let me summarize my views like this.

I've got no idea. Sure, he have the personality of a piece of cardboard but so does Vinyl Scratch (and one could argue that she played a bigger role than him in RR) but nobody complains about her.

He doesn't really do anything? Like, he was just a crush in the first movie, but we weren't given any reason for him to be interesting to Twilight and he doesn't really do much aside from save her from suspension.

I forget if he was even ever in the third movie, he's just forgettable.

Because he's an objectively poor character. Bland, quarter-dimensional, blatantly stereotypical, filler, a Gary Stu, and a pure plot device. There's literally no point in him existing other than to be Twilight's love interest, and DHX shows us they want nothing to do with him. Any hope for his character to improve is completely dead.

1. Vinyl Scratch has 100,000 times more character than him. Music to My Ears shows the audience how she sees her world as she heads to school, including her defiant joke at Principal Celestia. Unlike Flash, she's neither filler nor trapped by being an unnecessary plot device.
2. She oozes charisma. Flash is blander than water ice cream.

I dunno, not much going on about him, but him stealing waifus seems to be the most frequent reason to hate him. I mean, he's not the only one who's pretty generic (Right Silver Shill?), but for the sole reason to get Twi's interest got him to the death wish of many  . I used to just feel meh towards him, until his fandom rage exploded, NOW I DO LIKE HIM

Flash is a character that could have so much potential, but the problem is that he is just incredibly generic. Just the generic blockhead male character that exists only for Twilight to conveniently bump into and immediately fall in love with. Even with 3 films so far, he has yet to go beyond this generic role. That is painful to watch as having a generic male character like this is oh so typical of a high school themed movie about a group of girls.

I dislike him not because he stole 'waifu' (which I do not know what that is yet, haha), but because he has NO PERSONALITY. Which means he has no soul. We never see him except: *bump. 'We need to stop bumping into each other like this.'

My main reason for not liking him is, as mentioned before by pretty much everyone in the thread, the fact that he has zero personality and development. He was shoehorned in likely due to executive meddling who figured a high school movie needs a love interest.

 

My other reason for not liking him is that gets in the way of my shipping between Twilight and Sunset.

Anyways, I actually like him, but I can totally understand why they dislike him.

I hate him because he is the stereotypical cool, good looking guy that the main female character falls in love with, which you can find in alll other flics about women. It's not that this is a bad thing but Laurenfaust started MLP with the idea to bring many different kinds of female and males to the screen in a pony world but now instead of celebrating this diversity and giving Tiwlight someone who would actually make sense to fall in love with. We go back to the norm with a run of the mill good looking guy who is nothing more than a boy toy.
