Why does no one ever mention the fact that you are an American that is killing innocents in order to hopefully stop a world war during this level?

If you find that comforting, then so be it. I do not agree with such a sentiment.

So you do not accept the fact that america has killed thousands of innocent civillians? Or is it that its not ok for a game that has the killing of civies? If thats your problem than im guessing that you dont like a whole lot of games

I always did find it weird we jump to:

A: The most destructive methods of resolution fathomable.

B: Jump into wars not remotely involving us.

I think it's called FPS for a reason.

With the "Shooting" part and all.

Things must explode.

If you are talking about IRL, it's the interspecies trip of "This shit matters" variety.

Ever heard the myth of Polybius? If not, it was a supposed arcade game that was so addicting (and apparently had so many subliminal messages in it) that it literally caused the player to either kill themselves or have a load of weird side-effects including amnesia and insomnia. According to the legend, the game was eventually taken out of arcades due to these side-effects. Quite a weird story, but I'm sure it's just another fake creepypasta thing.

It's ironic how I fall just to get back up again...

I was expecting for more posts to be made about religion than violence, but I guess societal ideals still comes pretty close. :) Shin Megami Tensei games, like Nocturne and the SNES ones, always had some kind of god/satan character as a major boss. It does portray both sides in quite a neutral manner though - with neither one appearing to be absolutely good or evil - giving you the choice to side with either one. Still (correct me if I'm wrong...), it does make God/angels appear controlling, zealous and self-righteous, and Satan/demons to be persecuted because of their desire for absolute freedom.

I think the difference is that for MW2 it's you whose doing the shooting in the scenes instead of just watching it. I don't know about Mass Effect but to be honest I wouldn't want that kind of stuff in my games either - in fact, I don't need to see that close of intimacy between any two characters ever whether they be in movies or games or whatever. Ever.

Anyway, it's really not that uncommon to find small controversial things in games. Even in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time - the original mirror shield design and the giant blocks you moved around all had the Muslim Star symbol on them but were replaced in later versions with a sort of weird hourglass looking symbol because the Gerudo/Muslim connection was found offensive or disrespectful to some.

And by the way, there's no reason to get all upset and start cussing over this

I feel the same way. It's not that I find it wrong for sex scenes to be in a game, I just find it pointless. It's too bad that the use of symbols within games, even when used in a manner that isn't meant to be disrespectful, can offend people. I always thought that the original symbols looked cooler. :)

(edited)

Mortal Kombat is one that comes to mind because of how much gore it had back then. (I personally love Mortal Kombat.) It even made the ESRB rating system! I also believe that Mortal Kombat 2011 was banned in Australia and Germany. (According to Wikipedia.)

Night Trap on the Sega CD is another one. Look it up.

"No Russian" was not meant to offend people it was meant to trigger an emotional response from the player. It advanced the story in a way no one saw coming. I personally ended up skipping the level (My parent's are police officers so when I got to that point I just couldn't deal with it) but none the less, while controversial, the fact that a game can make you question right and wrong, well that's just a good game.

Dont forget that EA also canceled Medal of honors taliban multiplayer team too

Darn it... that was mine... :(

I guess Mortal Kombat when it first released... That set the rating scale in place, right?

In my opinion, I think it's the level No Russian from MW2. To be honest, I'm not gonna waste perfectly good ammo on innocent civilians, considering as how I'd rather use weapons for self defense and not shoot innocent civilians on sight and whatnot.

Every single M rated game is controversial to me. Even the old ones like Playboy Mansion which is very sexually innapropriate.

Edit: GTA SA: Hot coffee mod- also blown WAAAAAAY out of proportion. Why is it ok to bang people in God of war, but forbidden in the code of GTA SA?

I have no idea. Even though it required a mod to run and was originally removed out of the game, it still had fox news and Jack Thompson all over it.
