Ponies4Bronies 394 April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 Just wondering if their were any good reasons to. I am trying to compile a large list of like 20-30+ reasons why to. Not just to convince others but also to try and convince my older brother that he should give it a try. Any reason counts if you think it is worthwhile, I just don't want to think of them on my own. I got the basics obviously like the characters, songs, morals, etc. But what else? 1 Honey Wings, my love, my life, together forever. DND 2,355 April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 There's a lot of more mature undertones/references used in the show as the seasons progress especially. As the awareness for the brony fandom grew, the more pandering went into the writing. Many would appreciate the dedication the show puts forth.
GeekySonic 1,150 April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 I watch it because it's cute, funny, easy on the eyes, at times thought-provoking, relaxing, heartwarming, the main cast is enjoyable, the problems they face are often relatable, the music is usually good, the fandom is rather fun and engaging, easter eggs are fun to search for, the show staff is very connected with the fandom, I never quite know what to expect from new episodes (I dodge a lot of spoilers), it's opened me up to new and different experiences, and it's simply just a good time. 1 Check out my voice-acting demo reels on Casting Call Club, if you'd like. Steel Accord 6,660 April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 For me, one of the best reasons was twofold. One: the taking of a concept that some would see as silly and inconsequential and actually putting some work into making it grand and internally consistent while still being mostly innocent and kid friendly. Two: the mythos of the ponies being wardens of their world by controlling the heavenly bodies and shifting the seasons makes it a fun world to hand around in and just exist in. For the same reason Harry Potter is a fun world, even when they are doing something mundane you can sometimes just see pegasi moving clouds around. 1 My ponysona: http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/steel-accord-r1970 My AMA thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/76698-as-steel-me-andor-oc/

Buck Testa 5,505 April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 I came into the fandom because of the fan material, but I stayed because the characters are surprisingly dynamic and interesting, especially if we are talking about the Mane six. Most adult oriented entertainment can't write complex female characters, even when we are talking big budget movies. Usually they are regulated to the love interest or are so steeped in the "strong independent mary sue who don't need no man" cliche that they aren't even kind of interesting. Anime has a bit more to choose from in the dynamic female department but even they have their issues. 1 http://www.fimfiction.net/user/Billy%20G%20Gruff http://billyggruff.deviantart.com/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPVpSXbUpDYTcaFHTPiPjYA

EverEverOn 346 April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 Well... It's aesthetically appealing The characters are extremely relatable Some of the problems the ponies face reflect situations I've been in The lessons are valuable, even if they can be cliche It brings my sister and I closer together I've noticed I tend to adopt qualities of the main characters, such as becoming more honest I can learn how to handle many unique problems that aren't addressed much The list just goes on. Luminance 2,186 April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 True to be told, I love surprises and MLP actually surprised me. It's the well written story, fun, engaging, the lovable characters, stellar animation, and ultimately the Brony fandom.
Guest90210 3,568 April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 (edited) - The characters are usually well written, likable, have depth, and have fantastic character designs, - The show gives a unique sense of adventure and journey with slice of life arcs mixed in - Friendship is Magic breaks several "gender stereotype" boundries by writing strong, believable female main characters that aren't flandarized to the point of irrelevancy like many other shows marketed towards kids today. It was created with families in mind, with the belief that families would be able to understand its message and storylines rather than dumbing it down (which would in turn insult the audience) - The show boasts real continuity with its story arcs, giving a sense of progression and legitimacy to the show's plotlines (i.e, The Grand Galloping Gala buildup in Season 1) - The voice acting, background music, and song production are top notch. Just listen to some of the tunes Daniel Ingram has constructed and you'll see that even outside of MLP, they're awesome. - The fandom is a very fascinating thing, which helped the writers bring life to characters that you'd never think would even receive air time (i.e, Derpy, Vinyl Scratch) - The continued and subtle use of background characters makes the world feel alive and thriving. Instead of random ponies in the background, each one could have its own personality with help from the writers and the fandom. There's endless potential for stories. You see familiar faces instead of nameless, forgettable faces - FiM is gentle/"feminine" in a way that makes you feel inside but doesn't feel phoned in/forced like the old iterations of MLP. - MLP:FiM has inspired so many people to create art (just look at DeviantArt), music (Mando, TheLivingTombstone), animations (Chiildren of the Night, Double Rainboom, Rainbow Dash Presents), fan fiction (My Little Dashie, Fallout: Equestria) and even social movements and events (Bronycon, charity auctions, etc) and thus a vast, diverse community was born There are other reasons too, I'm loving the responses in here so far. The show has its flaws at times for sure, but there are plenty of reasons it has grown to be as popular as it has Edited April 11, 2016 by Rivendare
AbeLinkedIn 69 April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 A better question is what isn't there to like. I personally was drawn on the design. You could tell they were equestrian, but not too horse-like. The music and characters further drew me in, since at the time the writing wasn't as dynamic as it is now.
Cherry Palette 81 April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 Well, it has a robust story world that's constantly expanding. The storytelling is fantastic, and its unique. Oh, and the fandom surrounding it is awesome and constantly coming up with creative contributions to the series. That's all I've got.

AbeLinkedIn 69 April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 I forgot to add one thing: Worldbuilding and continuity. Most shows these days, at least with regards to cartoons, nix these things because they're primarily made to make little Jimmy or Susie shut it for a half hour and the old adage of "Kids are morons" but MLP says nuts to that notion and has great continuity. Take for example when Twilight's old home is destroyed, by next season some shows would ignore that and have her back at the library like nothing happened, but instead we get a story about where Twilight is going to call home now that it's a smoldering heap. Same with her being a princess, they could say it was a joke and return to the status quo. MLP doesn't do that, they keep building the story of what was originally an adorkable, book smart unicorn's coming of age to being promoted to basically a goddess at this point and her continuing trials and tribulations. That's the big reason I've kept with this show for so long.
