Is your time investment in pony appropriate or inappropriate?

How much time do you put into MLP related activities? Watching the series, Skyping the VA's, posting or lurking on mlp forums, planning and going to pony cons, making mlp cosplay, hunting and buying pony merch, creating pony fan charas....how much time daily do you invest in MLP things? Is the time invested per day appropriate? Or is it inappropriately invested, and you suffer for it (loss of sleep, job, cutback on studies, etc)?

Most of my 'Pony Time' is spent here, on these forums, lurking about, posting, seeing what the friends are up to and such. Considering this place is basically a second home for me, I see that as time well spent. Beyond that of course there are the siggies that I do and whatnot, but the biggest time taker is the forums, but even then, I think I am able to balance it out well. I have a lot of free time anyways so...I suppose it isn't a big deal anyways.

It's inappropriately invested. As a matter of fact, a lot of my interests in general and how I spend time with them is what made me fail school in the first place. I am not proud of this fact, that's for certain.

A little less than 1/3, Though I do like the show, watching it, browsing the forums, etc.. I do have other interests, computer related or not. Since not as much of my time is spent on "pony time" due to other interests, guitar, studying, school, friends, it doesn't cause any problems in my life. In my "pony time" I like to watch fan videos, browse the forums, watch the show and I have a few shirts that I wear occasionally, and I will occasionally find myself listening to brony music but more often you will find me listening to other music, though brony music isn't bad at all.

The term is opportunity cost. With everything we do, we give up the opportunity to do something else. Being a part of the fandom has not (to my knowledge) had a negative opportunity cost. It helps that my family are all fans too. It also helps that I can make a post like this in 5.3 seconds while looking over school work and talking to my wife.

No ill effects.

To be honest, for me, it is inappropriately invested -- but let me qualify this. I believe that creative output should be balanced with the use of someone else's intellectual property. Meaning, I want to create as much as I enjoy other people's creations. I'll admit that MLP related things takes up too much of my time from creating original work and further cultivating my talents. That doesn't mean that I don't love MLP or that it doesn't have a place in my life -- but it most definitely has taken too much time away from more important things.

I don't inappropriately spend time on them. If there's work to be done that involves school, or generally anything that's important, then I do that first and foremost before anything else.

I do a lot of pony-related things in my free time, though. Whether it's browsing the forums, drawing 'em or looking at art, vids and fanfics.

I think it's appropriate so far. I don't have a job anymore, so I got nothing better to do. Pretty much all I do is listen to fan music and read through the forums here.

nothing better to do than looking for a job? Inappropriate ponying, in my opinion.

...not that I'm in any position to judge.

If I was able to do something more productive, then I might say inappropriate. But I dropped out of college once I learned I had cancer (that and the stress of it plus the stress of classes got to be too much) and since my cancer was in my eyelid, it was only slightly-operable. They couldn't remove all of it, so I'm now on daily chemo pills. They leave me incredibly drained, in addition to weakening my immune system, so I can't work. So honestly, obsessing over my fandoms and having fun on forums is a great escape from the harsh realities of life. And I think it's pretty healthy. I'm talking to people and making friends. I can't think of a better way to spend my time.

Well, I kinda can't. The only businesses near my grandparents' house aren't hiring, and I don't have a car to drive, so I can't go out any further than my school.

Not a particularly good excuse, but oh well. Besides, once summer rolls around, I know for sure that I can work on a farm again.

How do people get the skype contact of VAs? I thought they don't give out their personal info.

As for main topic, I think I'm in the normal range in terms of investment, maybe even a tad bit too little.

Well I dunno, I pretty much keep this site open in one of my tabs for the whole day, but I do watch the episodes when they broadcast :3

When I'm home, I can spend quite some time actually doing pony related stuff, but recently it has really went to a whole new level: I can now obssess about MLP for hours a day now, well, when I can. Aside from regularly browsing the forums and such, I even recently thought about merchandise and even being more open about my love for it. I don't know if I want to call this investiment appropriate as it is a risky thing for my schedule, but I really love looking at this stuff, so I kind of want to say the opposite.

If I'm not playing Destiny or watching anime I'm engaging with some kind of pony media. So yes I would say that my time invested in pony might be considered inappropriate but if that's the case then all of my hobbies have an inappropriate amount of time sunk into them.

Eh, I think it's appropriate, other people probably disagree though. Ponies is one of the few things keeping me even a bit happy/sane, so I think I'm justified in spending so much time/money on it. Not much I want more in life than pony stuff anyway, except a few good friends and occasionally some video games.

Twilight is best pony.

Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?
