So in a recent Family Guy episode, there was a scene where Peter plays Cleveland in the NES game Double Dribble. Seems like typical Family guy stuff. However, the writers or whoever decided to use an actual YouTube clip of the game that's exploiting a glitch.

Seems normal for Family Guy to do something like this. However, after the episode aired, Fox sent a DMCA takedown ON THE CLIP!

Isn't this basically stealing? I mean, the clip might not fall completely under fair use, but Fox taking down the same clip after it was shown on Family Guy sounds like downright stealing. Do they own Double Dribble? No. Only the company that owns it can file copyright take downs on it.

And this is all happening around the time of the #WTFU movement too.

Not surprised that it's Fox since they're notorious for taking down videos on YouTube. However, since they don't even own the rights to Double Dribble, they shouldn't be allowed to take that video down. Konami developed and published that game, so I'd think they own the rights. However, with how broken YouTube's copyright system is, anyone can take a video down, even if they don't own the rights to it. This reminds me of when Shout Factory was taking down MLP related videos, even though they don't own the rights. Difference is, Shout Factory is responsible for dvds of the show, so there's some sort of connection. Fox on the other hand doesn't have any connection to Double Dribble.

I'm hoping this is some lackey who works for Fox who is paid to watch YouTube and flag videos with Fox content and didn't *get it*....if this is someone of importance at Fox (a) what an idiot and (B) shame on them.

Just when I thought Family Guy couldn't get any worse. I see MacFarlene and co. have no qualms about outright plagiarism.

(edited)
Seth McFarlane had nothing to do with the DMCA.

Not the claim; using somebody else's footage without permission and claiming it as your own is plagiarism.
