Vulcan 3,255 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 (edited) Who would you give it to? additionally , you could also give it to studies like "curing cancer" or "Solar panel technology" or whatever, But you can't give it to yourself, or companies that would benefit you by giving you money. and you can only grant it to ONE ...you can't split it. Kagami-sama 320 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 I'd give it to the make me a billionaire fundraiser. I'd get the nice warm fuzzy feeling of giving to someone all while the excitement of getting a billion dollars! It's a win-win!
Celtore 2,770 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 (edited) The heck with that, I'd form my own charity and fund the money towards making cancer history. I don't really trust charities with that sum of money, plus I can control what goes into operation costs (basically living fees) and know for certain it's going where it belongs. Or alternatively, I'd simply insist that the money goes directly to a list of research facilities which deal with this. Scrubbed user 3,417 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 Autism research. I'm fairly certain there are a lot of people who were born with autism in some form that would like to have that reversed. It's one thing to understand it, it's another to end it.
Corgis 574 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 I would put it to research for Thorium most likely. Probably the best power substitute right now besides fusion but that is very iffy if it is a possibility or not.
Invincible 2,092 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 Energy research. Because most of the energy produced on earth is inefficient, wasteful, harmful, and will become obsolete once the natural resources used in the process are depleted. That, or quantum computing. That thing will drive humanity to the space age, allowing more advanced applications such as AI to become reality. 1 My OCs for Roleplay purposes: o Lit Fuse (http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/lit-fuse-r6608) o Dust Devil (http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/dust-devil-r7357)
Thuja 3,659 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 (edited) I'd like it to go towards a program that helps under-privileged kids have the opportunity to go to college and/or university. Who knows? Maybe one of those kids will grow up to create the next big thing or breakthrough. Edited August 3, 2016 by Thuja
Discordian 6,015 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 So no matter what I do I'm forced to give it to someone and can't keep it? Wouldn't really matter who it went to at that point. First one that comes along, probably.

I've lost several loved ones to the disease since I was a young child, so I would just want to be able to do something to help stop it. 1 Signature by Kyoshi

Or alternatively, I'd simply insist that the money goes directly to a list of research facilities which deal with this. This. Cause, charities like Susan G. Komen and PETA, never put the money toward what they exist for. Maybe like 1% of it goes toward the cause they opened up for. The rest goes to themselves and their employees. So, I'm pretty much behind the idea of setting up my own charity and making sure the money actually goes where it needs to go. It's meant for research and/or helping those in great need of help. 1 My OC(s): Clear Rider My Ask a Pony At some point, there will be a fic or more here "You can't be a comedian, unless you can laugh at yourself." - Me "Don't cry because it's over. silvadel 1,393 August 3, 2016 Share August 3, 2016 Thing is, a billion dollars doesn't really go all that far. I mean a company like spacex is worth $12 billion, and they aren't huge. The NIH alone spends $6 billion on cancer research every year. Half a billion on Alzheimers. If you add up everyone's spending on those (which it seems the web HASN'T it would be magnitudes higher). 1 Silvadel, the Pegasus of Insight. Vocal Analyst 665 August 4, 2016 Share August 4, 2016 To pick one cause is quite difficult for me... I'd love to assist in ridding the world of Cancer, Parkinson's and Alzheimers/Dementia related illnesses, all of which have afflicted my family members and friends over the years. I'd probably use the money to establish a charity to fight all of them, in collaboration with existing ones to create one supranational body that governs the research and finds a way to ensure all those ailments are cast into the medical history books.
Vulcan 3,255 August 4, 2016 Author Share August 4, 2016 Someone above had the great idea to make your own charity so I guess I'll do the same. I would make my own charity where the goal would be to help the lives of the poor in my city (I'd go for the whole country, but I don't think a billion would have a very big impact if it would be given for all). The poverty situation is insane over here. It's heart breaking.

The poverty situation is insane over here. It's heart breaking. This is more or less where my charity would be. I'd fund those who are actually making housing for homeless (yes, like RV camps, but they are single room houses designed for the homeless) individuals and families (Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they're funded enough to do this for entire families). But, my charity would reach out to those and such like that. Discordian 6,015 August 4, 2016 Share August 4, 2016 To NASA so they could developed a warp drive to make a starship! Dx to SPAAAAACCEEE!!!! @w@ I considered this as well but maybe not NASA. Depends on what the money would be used for and how. Not to speak badly of NASA but if a private company could do it better if they just had the funds I'd go with them instead. Flutterstep 47,130 August 4, 2016 Share August 4, 2016 I'd give money to more unpopular charities, such as guide dogs for the blind. Children charities and cancer research get enough money in my opinion. I'm not saying we don't need them, of course.
