I mean greanted they needed someway to nerf discord but still kind of way too convenient. I mean Power Rangers levels of convenient

almost as bad as "oh the teleporters aren't working cause X reason don't question it"

Yeah, that's what I'm somewhat upset about. Discord could've easily transported the cocoons containing the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony right to him, then take everyone home, but then Starlight and Thorax would not have been able to reform the Swarm now, would they?

Yeah i knwo it not a bad plot device and it was decent finale with gags and such just yeah raises too many questions.

Too be fair it must be similar to the stuff tartus is made of cause well magic creatures prison you need magic obsorbing material or in this case an AOE device. In a way it doesn't need explained. It like wanting asnwers about the alicorn amulet and it origins.

I'll admit, I've just gotten used to accepting that they've been stuffing Celestia as a background pony rather than playing much of a role in these finales and such.  Celestia, previously played some sort of different role with her gambits and risky moves. But more and more over the past seasons, I've just started to realize and accept that the writers don't really have a clue on how to bring her back into relevancy.

I agree that I think they haven't really been utilizing the royal families very well over these past seasons.

I kind of wanted to say that Chyrsalis actually sent her best competent spies to play their part of fooling the alicorns into a trap in order to be kidnapped, but the one assigned to kidnap the mane cast don't exactly give me the impression of the best spies (although they seem to be at least above average for a changeling spy).

The whole thing about the anti-magic throne, sure it's an all-too convenient device, but in the context of where magic in this show has little rules, it's unfortunately not really surprising to me anymore. At the same time, I see it as necessary because after all, they have Discord on their side. Literally we need something to actually stop Discord from resolving the whole situation within 10 seconds because he can bend the whole fabric of reality to his whim. There was actually a purposeful limitation put in to prevent Discord from finishing this series finale in 10 seconds flat, but also still kept him in for necessary measure because it would be assumed that he he can (now after post Tirek situation) be counted on as a potential ally.

And what I actually like is that Celestia's actually reasonable contingency plan was playing off (with reasonable limits, even if it's a bit of an pulled out of thin air device),

Glad you agree that the way the Royal Family's been treated lately by the writers is not what some Bronies want. I want Meghan to come back after the movie and get them back on track. Also, what do you mean by "Celestia's actually reasonable contingency plan"?

What the heck is an "AOE device"?

Area OF Effect, range essentially in a circliar radius

Ah, also you did not answer my other question about what you were referring to with "Celestia's actually reasonable contingency plan."

Sorry about being vague on what I wrote earlier. By Celestia's contingency plan I meant from the past seasons, making sure that Discord would became an ally to Equestria on the off-chance that things hit SNAFU.  Since Discord's re-introduction from keep calm and flutter on, I saw this as an opportunity proposed by Celestia to try and convince a former powerful draconiquis to try and be allied/side with the ponies as an ally who would help out Equestria in times of desperate need. (A side back-up measure to besides relying always on Twilight).

(going back a couple of seasons) It was a risky gamble, but I viewed it as Celestia trying to have an asset set up for Equestria as an extra back up and I thought this was actually a reasonable plan made by her. If it paid off, Equestria would have an extremely powerful ally on their side to better help protect the kingdom should the situation call for it. Yes, this goes back to season 4's finale with Discord betraying Equestria and helping Tirek, but Celestia gave him a full pardon in order to retain good relations (And the possibility that he would still help out in times of desperate situations with the state).

Back in Keep Calm and Flutter On, the only thing that could hold Discord were the elements of harmony. Because afterall he is a draconiquis that can bend the very fabric of reality to his while (only limited by his conscious mentality) There is little to stop Discord if he were to go on the chaotic path again (Except for a few things, EoH and this anti-magic throne,).

This was the main reason that Celestia had asked the mane cast to try and befriend Discord (or at least that's how I perceived it. Celestia didn't necessarily tell them that, but she was thinking ahead, because she does call upon Discord in season 4 finale).  However, it worked again here, because Discord was largely disinterested in the situation. He seemed curious to want to find out why some things had changed, but at the very instance of hearing that Fluttershy was in trouble, he came calling instantly.  And the finale would've ended instantly if Discord was able to use his magic to save the day. However, from a narrative perspective, I can understand why there should be a limitation put in place to prevent this. Still the main goal was to get Discord to help out the ponies if major trouble were to happen and in this S6 finale, it did occur.

Well, while I understand that Celestia probably figured Discord could be of assistance should anything happen to her, the Royal Family, or the Elements of Harmony to leave Equestria defenseless, and was able to suggest the idea to Luna before she made contact with Starlight to warn her, thus bringing up the idea of rounding up some unlikely allies to help Starlight in this time of peril, that does hold some water to it since with the Master of Chaos on their side, any threat to Equestria could be easily handled by him, as long as, like with Queen Chrysalis, they did not have a Power Nullifying artifact that rendered Discord unable to use his powers.
