music Bass Guitar!

I couldn't help but notice that there was a guitar thread but no Bass guitar thread.

I know somepony out there has to play bass guitar.

If so, share your bass playing backgrounds.

What kind of bass? What type of music do you play? What would you like to play? Favorite songs/ bassists?

I jam on a red Cort bass for my 4 string and a Green Ibanez for my 5 string. Not sure the exact models, as I do not currently have them with me.

I like to play funk and slap bass a lot because i like to jam and have some groove going. I also like to play metal and djent type music, once again for the groove.

My favorite bassists include Flea (didn't see that one coming, eh?), Victor Wooten and Evan Brewer.

Lately I've been listening to A LOT of Evan Brewer. His rhythm and speed are incredible and his talent is inhuman. I can't seem to keep up with him.

My friends and I always dreamed of starting a band where I played bass (I'm a violinist, but I figured I could learn quick XD). Unfortunately, we never got started.....

But if I ever do something like that again, I'll be sure to revisit this thread :D

A Peavey Foundation fretless and a purple Fender Jazz bass. I play a lot of Phish/moe.-esque stuff, Primus, Early Metallica... My heroes are Cliff Burton, Alex Webster, Les Claypool, Rob Derhak and Justin Chancellor. B)

Ive been playing bass for about 6 years now, I have a band called "Sol Resonance", and my heroes are Geddy Lee, Cliff Burton, Flea, Jeff Berlin, and Larry Graham (the godfather of slap bass). I'm going to take more lessons over the summer with Jeff Berlin (he's worked with many big groups which include Rush, Metallica, and RHCP. Geddy Lee, himself, said that he is the best bass guitarist in the world, he even stayed at Jeff's house when his band was touring in his town), this is going to be my second time working with Jeff.

Damn! I didn't even think of Jeff Berlin. The guy is pretty amazing. I don't think I've ever seen anyone hold their own alone on bass as well as him. That's pretty crazy that you get to work with him. I could only dream of such an opportunity.

It's nice to know that there's some good bass enthusiasts out there. Bass guitar always seems to get overlooked.

Yeah true, people don't understand that the bass is the foundation of the band. It drives everyone and holds everyone together.

I was thinking of getting into rockabilly style upright bass. That still counts right? The best I reckon is John Entwhistle of The Who, that guy was amazing, if anyone ever heard him.

Upright bass is tons of fun once you get it going, but they're pretty expensive and hard to get used to sometimes. I use an upright bass to record occasionally and it's always enjoyable.

It can be a bit limiting at times but there's just no other sound like it.I just wish they weren't so damn heavy and awkward to carry. Moving it to and from the studio has got to be one of the most grueling tasks ever and I always seem to get stuck with it http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png

I play bass pretty casually. I don't even know what brand it is, but it's pretty sick. It's orange. 4 string. I've mostly just fiddled around with the basslines for some of the songs by the Gorillaz, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, and attempted some of the basslines from some sick Van Halen songs (they're pretty tough, though.)

I feel as if I need to spend a lot more time with it this summer.

I play the bass.....not too great and not too bad. I have a 4 string, candy apple red beauty. I tend to lean towards fast paced songs.

LOVE playing:

"Onset of Tragedy" by Cthonic

"Theme of Laura" by Akira Yamaoka from Silent Hill

"Brand New Love" by DEADSY

"Blue and Yellow" by The Used

I'm not very good but I have a straight black 4 string and I've recently picked it back up after a pretty long off period.

I currently only know how to play 2 things well:

-House of the Rising Sun - The Animals

-Boris the Spider- The Who

Neither of these is very hard I know but that's why I picked it back up.

(edited)

The gig was a lot of fun but was a little scary when one of my strings broke (I have never had a string break in my entire life as a bassist) so I had to play three string bass until one of the previous band's bassist let me borrow his bass. Anyways, I'll get the gig vid up here asap.

Also, my band just got a gig at the grand opening of a new skatepark in Florida, we're gonna probably present originals there.

Bassists are unappreciated, anyways, my favorite bassist is Flea.

No it's not. It's Paul Mccartney.

I'm thinking of starting to learn how to play bass, it seems like such a cool instrument.

Gonna get a six string bass guitar Saturday!

Sweet! I've only played a six string once but I loved every second of it. Kind of overwhelming at first, but it feels like there's virtually endless possibilities!
