What would an MLP-Themed restaurant be like?

If I were in charge, I'd design it to look like somewhere in Ponyville--not sure where (Sugarcube Corner, maybe? Twilight's library or castle?) As for the menu, I'd design it with different sections based on different characters. For instance:

Applejack--apple-based desserts

Rarity--tea and appropriate sides (cucumber sandwiches, scones, etc.)

Pinkie Pie--any kind of dessert not in the Applejack section

Fluttershy--various kinds of salad

Discord--unusual flavor combinations (pineapple and soy sauce, hamburger and peanut butter, etc.) Prices would end in strange numbers ($8.19, $12.42, that kind of thing).

I would imagine it would be sort of like a Chuck-e-Cheese type restaurant. A place for kids parties and stuff to be semi interactive with them and the family.

The food would probably be just normal food with Equestrian style names for fun like Oatburgers and stuff.

Definitely a vegetarian place! (Hayburgers anyone?)

Yess! I'd love to visit a real-life Sugarcube Corner! <3

... triggering a memory.... hold on, need to search for something....

Yup. Found it. A MLP restaurant actually exists in real life... sort of. It's called the Unicorn Cafe, with a lot of stuff from G1 through G4 and generic unicorns thrown in. It's in Thailand, and is studiously avoiding using actual MLP branding...

Your post reminded me of something... There IS an official (I... think?) MLP cafe in Japan! It's mostly G1 themed, but still!

You could make it work. Use the same colors just darker so it doesn't stitch the eye and use similar furniture, only more realistic. Then name the things after mlp like leonbrony17 suggested, and that's it.

^In this scenario it wouldn't be fast food, and you could sit down. I imagine a way how humans could kind of sit like ponies... hm... maybe with lower seats. But i don't know, how comfortable that'd be.

I was told at one point that Japan has 'temporary cafes' that open up for a week or so, then close down and those same people open up somewhere else with a completely different theme, and continue the cycle. Given that in that article they mention 'it won't be around for long' it makes me think it's one of those. Does anyone know if that's the way it actually works in Japan? Over here paying the start up costs (food & beverage licencing, which is tagged to your location and the like) over and over again would be prohibitive.

Ooh, this is a great idea.  I wish they would make this kind of thing, and I wish there was one in my town.  I wish there were more themed places in general.  Why does everything have to be so sterilized and homogenized?  I remember when The Olive Garden was actually ITALIAN themed.  Y'know, it had wine vineyard stuff and trellises with grape vines and stuff like that.  Made you feel like you were in a Tuscan villa.  Now it's all "modernized" like everything else, to be bland and boring.  A couple of paintings on the wall are the extent of the theme.  But why can't we have cool, theme stores and restaurants?  Why does that kind of stuff have to be reserved for Disneyland?  Why can't we go out to eat and feel like we're on the deck of a clipper ship, or the hall of castle, or a Samurai pagoda?  (Oh, I  can just see that last one being called racist.  Screw that, I love themed stuff.)  Why can't we have a literal Sugarcube Corner and Carousel Boutique?  Why can't they actually make those places?  Imagine how much of a hit they'd be!  It's not like we don't have bakeries/candy stores, and trendy, high fashion dress shops!  Sugarcube Corner and Carousel Boutique would be a hit!  And they should make the Hayburger and everything else in Ponyville.

This reminds me, many years ago, I had a hilarious idea for a BBQ place called The Hoof & Mouth.  Isn't that a great name?

Discus.

Sure thing!                  *fwing*                                           *crash*                                   Uhps! Broke another window again!

I don't see there ever being one, but if there was I guess fast food maybe

Hahaaa! Honey! There's Tsundere Cafes that I've heard of where the waitresses go out of their way to insult you! Which I'd pay for! Reminds me of home! HAH! Stranger things have, and always will happen! If I was allowed to have money, I'd throw my money at any shmuck that promised this!

If I were in charge, I'd design it to look like somewhere in Ponyville--not sure where (Sugarcube Corner, maybe? Twilight's library or castle?) As for the menu, I'd design it with different sections based on different characters. For instance:

Love the notion, though that'd likely get elaborate & hard to manage with different menus in different areas of the same building. Also, that is not how we do in Da Discord Disco Diner.  You can order anything you want off the menu, but we never bother to listen to it. Irregardless of what you order, we bring you out a plate or sandwich assembled of various things around the kitchen we grabbed entirely at random. Some of them may even be actual utensils. And if you ask what's in it, why, or any other questions we just lean over the table, inches from your face and cackle like a giant, evil donkey. CLAWFIVE ME, BRO!

"Well sir your bill totals up to...four cents."  Wh-what? Really? That's pretty cheap!   "Yeah, but each of those pennies has to be minted later then 15 years ago & then there's the mandatory tip of $27. Oh, and your also not allowed to leave until you tip or until that food passes out of your system. Whichever comes first."

You could make it work. Use the same colors just darker so it doesn't stitch the eye and use similar furniture, only more realistic. Then name the things after mlp like leonbrony17 suggested, and that's it.

REALISM? But we're theming here! What's the point if you DON'T make your audiences' eyes bleed? Besides, being brightly pastel is very with the concept of the Equestrian theme. And I Third the notion of having it be chairless, I'm sure many a culture dines without chairs so its just foreign enough for any American or elsewhile place you set down in to take it as a charming notion. Plus, who doesn't like sitting on cushy butt pillows, eh?

I wish there were more themed places in general.  Why does everything have to be so sterilized and homogenized?   Why can't we have a literal Sugarcube Corner and Carousel Boutique?  Why can't they actually make those places?    And they should make the Hayburger and everything else in Ponyville.

Weeell, that's sort of the thing about specializing this much about stuff. There are restaurants like that, I'm sure, but only every other state. You have to hope word gets around by word of mouth and that people travel across state lines to come to your place. Heck, America is very well known for its insane tourist traps, like twelve different "World's Largest" ball of twine, ceramic hot dogs, or gerbil races, we ain't no strangers to strange! You theme a business and you restrict your clientele and have to start reaching further for customers then a more general store would.

But, Aye. The restaurant HAS to be strictly vegetarian. Though luckily you can do alot with a veggie base! Even make it greasy and unhealthy enough to count as that one psuedo-McDonalds we've seen in the show! I don't see actual hay making it into a Hayburger, but we can just call it that. That's the three Big Ds of a theme restaurant! Decor, Design, & Dine! And yes, those first two are the same thing! The look of the place & what you serve! You don't really have to go about forcing your waiters & waitresses to roleplay like their actually in Equestria, as that'd likely wear on everybeing's nerves.

Oh, and Justin Time, love your BBQ place idea! Can see the motto/ads for the place now! "Come on down to The Hoof N' Mouth! Our foods is so darn tootin' tasty that its outright infectious! .....figuratively speaking of course..."

I think you may have misinterpreted what I said--the menu would have different sections, but there would only be one menu for the restaurant.

You must have read my thoughts, though I was going to say that it would have been in Japan, as a lot of the themed restaurants I know of are there.. I really want to visit the cat one where you can pet and cuddle kittens

While that does  sound undeniably adorable & a must-have...That sounds rather unsanitary................Wait, can you eat the kittens too?

Ah, your right. Think I got lost in my own interpretation of the notion of a multi-designed restaurant filled with different rooms with a design to each. Either way, love the idea!

Did...did you just...quote me quoting your quote, then I just quoted you quoting me quote quoting your quote that.....Gah! Quote-Ception! Somebeing find me a top to spin!!!

I might need to stop soon. Seems I'm going on a quoting rampage, rotfl!

It's not really a cafe you can eat at...I think, it's like a big place where you can just go in and play with the kittens, I think it is something that was made to encourage kitten adoption. There is this one place in Sydney, Australia that might be opening (if the Kickstarter is successful) http://sydneycatcafe.com.au/

this place as well: http://www.catmospherecafe.com/sydney

this place: http://www.catcuddlecafe.com/

and this place just to name a few: http://catcafemelbourne.com/(the black ones looks like my little fluffball)

What if there was an MLP themed restaurant? Would it be fast food? Sit down style? Both? What kind of food would be served? Discus.

I have no idea on any of those, but I think that would be incredible.
