Why does the fandom have such a bad rep?

Shoot, sometimes it's easy for BRONIES to hate bronies.

There is quite the handful of our fandom that go out of their way to harass others for the pettiest things. Liking different ships, liking unpopular characters, disliking popular characters, having an unconventional headcanon, and so on.

You know it's bad when I've never had a anti-brony come start crap with me, but I've had to develop a troll protocol to combat rabid Fluttercord shippers who come to tell me how crap I am for daring to like Dislestia.

We're grating to OURSELVES, so naturally we could grate on those that don't even have the common ground of liking the show.

Yo ShadO, where's my artwork fix? ;P

Yo ShadO, where's my artwork fix? ;P

Heehee, sorry hon. :please:

My computer died, like COMPLETELY, so I've lost access to Photoshop.

I'm trying to learn GIMP (on my mom's computer) so I can make something until I get a new computer. But GIMP kinda sucks. XP

I know about the cloppers, fanart, and stuff like that, but if non-bronies visited our forums once in awhile, they'd know most of the fandom isn't disgusting and horrible. I almost want to think they just want to stir up trouble with us. Are we an easy target or something?

(Also,I found a site where bronies are almost, seemingly, acting stupid on purpose. Read the comments: https://houseofgeekery.com/2013/05/21/10-most-annoying-fandoms/)

Any thoughts?

It could be trolls doesn't even need to be bronies.

But whats so disgusting anyways? 4chan bronies? Like, thats 4chan in general, not bronies.

But I guess people make logical errors all the time, and emotional uninformed judgements.

Personally why i think we have a bad rep is people doing the cringey ironic meme troll sorta stuff, then people taking it out of context and being like HEY all bronies are like this, and most of us dont like them because of our masculinity problems, so lets use this as ammunition against them!

But I guess also, stuff like telling reactors they must watch pony.mov and cupcakes hd etc some people think its horrible. But personally I am a fan of those reactions lol.

It might seem cruel, and its messed up for a little kid to react to it. But authentic reactions are 8x more satisfying than the HEY LOOK AT ME IM MR MEESEEKS ENTERTAINING reactions.

Then i guess some people think brony clop material is pedophilic so I can see why they might get bothered from that, but they don't get the culture so their criticism isn't really valid.

In this world of ours, there are these little things called stereotypes. What these stereotypes do is define us to a branch of society. What each of us engage in should be linked to the branch that we come from. It's not OK for girls to like wrestling, for example or it's not OK for boys to play with Barbie dolls. We call these breaches of stereotypes a taboo, something that our branch should avoid engaging in.

For example, if you saw a man urinating on someone's car in public, admit it, you would be concerned as weirded out by what you just witnessed. Grown adults ( particuarly men ) should NOT be interested by My Little Pony. They should be out in the field, punching each other on the arm, playing soccer and eating beef jerky. So when we break the roles that we are meant to take, and take a different path, while it may feel right for us as individuals, to others of a more primitive nature, it may ( or probably will ) seem unethical and/or aloof. Any sort of a lack of acceptance in caused by a lack of understanding. Some people just can't comprehend the fact that some grown adults could love a show about talking ponies so much. My Little Pony has long been presented as a show intended for little girls, not grown people. Our society has not yet reached the point were they understand and accept Bronies for their choices, and so such a fascination with the show has long been branded has somehow "wrong".

Besides, many members of our fandom indulge in some more..............peculiar habits. Many of us do some activities that seem to appear as odd or even disturbing. But what they fail to see is one crucial detail. There us no such thing as odd behaviour, we all just have different...........desires ( all of us have peculiar urges from time to time, you know what I mean, mischievous wink ). There is only behaviour that we do not understand, and in the case of the My Little Pony fandom, what many neither WANT nor TRY to understand.

Because people are dumb. "Oh yes let's hate on an entire fanbase for liking a great show!" The whole 'people that give us a bad name' thing is no excuse whatsoever. Every fandom on the planet has its bad apples and to summarize the entirety of a fanbase by that is ignorant. Plenty of people want to hate the fandom simply because of what the fandom is about. They think it is just some 'show for little girls' and since we have embraced a show that they deem unnatural for us, we are prime targets for hatred.

Hell, I have seen quite a bit of this from the fandom itself, targeting itself and proclaiming the fandom is bad because of, whatever. We are not 'weird', we are not 'stupid', we just have a passion for a show. That's it.

At least it's not as bad a rep as the one the Sonic fandom has. :P Seriously, as a long time member of that fandom (as in, ever since the first game came out), I have read and seen stuff that would make some of the extreme bronies blanch.

In any case, the best thing to do is ignore it. The sad fact is, the idiots are in the minority of any fandom, but cuz they're more out there than the calm majority, they get the bulk of the notice of non fans. Comparison; working in retail where 95% of all the customers you encounter are nice and polite, but you don't remember them as much as the 5% who are rude, abusive, or condescending.

It's not really a bad reputation, it's just that there is a bad side to every fandom, but sadly, sometimes it shows up more than the good side...

The good and bad come in equal doses on the internet, but universally you can find extensive communities like this on fb and other sites and its just supposed to be a web of fans of the show, just sharing content and commenting on each others photos, and people find artists for prc and oc content. I like the brony fandom. I myself havent always been the purest of heart, but i am and always will be very loyal to the community and fandom. Not for its ideally recognized level of optimistic conformity (because in reality) those images also arent true, and a lot of bronies are really into their own perspective, and their own opinions on the show and other are complete trolls. I do think the good greatly outweighs the bad in being involved with the mlp community. Some days I am much more active than others, but I consider the show and the fandom are very great portion of my best side. and I have some indefinite allegiances to it. As for "cloppers" I really dont care what anyone "thinks" about me, I care about what is true, and I know and have i befriended self admitted "furries" and some a good people. I dont think our concern or the public image are entirely relevant, I think there is just a mutual understanding among different types of bronies when it comes down to it, because at the end of the day, we are all connected over our love for the same show, and there are actual bronies who want to discuss and there are bronies who want to pester and troll... A lot of trolls do begin bronies or share their better side in the fandom, the d be fandom is alluring for all of its positive quirks to different kinds of people, you would less than surprised to know.

Any thoughts?

This post gonna get me into trouble, but you did ask for my thoughts soooo, I'm gonan give my honest views on stuff. Sorryyyyyy .

Firstly because people watching ponies must make them gay. Or Bi or just mentally handicapped, in todays society you cant discriminate against them now. Though you can still discriminate against fandoms. YAY.

So because you watch a show about ponies your already deemed to be low in society and there isn't a tabo against laughing at a brony or pony or furry or whatever, since you can't now laugh at disabled people or jail gays you got to have some sort of stress relief right?. Would be nice where you could make fun of everybody regardless, that's the only discrimination here, doesn't matter if your in a wheelchair or able body and you fall over, still funny. Don't know how u fall over in a wheel chair but still, would be funny.

That annoys me, of course I see the reasoning behind it, but still. Political correctness gone wrong. I found a funny article, where a pilot that was blind was flying a commercial jet, Seems legit.

You see the problem here, what is acceptable in our society? Where you draw the line? My line is different to your line for example, if somethings funny I laugh..... Might result in very odd looks but hey, im crazy and thats ok, as long as i don't hurt anypony thats cool.

Oh and my random posts on social media doesnt help, I don't think my tumblr page with 'Ask Blood Drops' goes well, last post someone got eaten on it. Well thats what happens when you ask a Zombie pony, what shes thinking of having for lunch. Dumb questions get a dumb response.

Not very positive, though lunch is lunch.

Oh and you mentioned cloppers, you got to give people credit for creative arts. Even if you don't agree with it, you can't discriminate against that sort of thing, nudism wouldn't exist otherwise. Now your thinking im support it, but im very open in my views, whatever you do in your private time is up to you. As long as you don't harm anyone else.

Such as trolling, or being a bomb maker. Yeah, don't do that. I'm not saying, being super politically correct, being a bomb maker is a... yeah it is a bad thing, don't do it. I means seriously people, don't use religion as a excuse either sheesh, I got nothing aaginst religion, just when you use it as a excuse for stuff that affects others, similarly to the 'diminished responsibility' bs plea. Where you can just kill someone then walk away with a few years, since it wasn't your fault.

"yeah that unicorn made me do it"

Yeah seems legit,

anyway you wanted my honest opinion on the matter, you can't get much more honest that this?

P.S. I take no responsibility for this post, or any insult or harm caused though diminished responsibility on my part. Because yeah, zombies made me do it!!!

Part of it is people look at a minority of it. For example, I've seen a couple of cringe compilations when I was bored and I often see bronies acting in ways that are very weird and such. Then there are people in the comments who see the whole fandom as being this way, which obviously isn't good for the fandom's reputation and image.
