Is there too much fandom influence in the show?

yes, in fact it's probably part of why mlp has been so lacking in quality recently LOL

they probably feel so pressured or tense b/c of the fandom

See above. That is not the case at all and the quality has only gotten better.

I'm going to keep saying it because it's true. Early fandom nostalgia be damned.

I dont think it was "straight" "fan service" bronies sometimes just get it in their minds that if two ponies share a moment or a special friendship that its "shipping" or "fan service" NO, No Second Prances is arguably one of the best episodes of the show, and for me probably THE best.... Do you not see that they have a reason to have that common ground, giving each other that chance just expanded the depth of the friendship. Trixies ultimate character change occurred in this episode, she willingly took a risk firing herself from that canon, that Starlight would come and save her... Starlight prior to this, we only have knowledge of her having one other close friend and it was when she was a filly... the friendship is important... one, the kind of references like making Scootaloos chicken car, and Pinkie breaking the fourth wall and what not, I dont see any problem with subtle fandom jokes, as long as it is not pure fan service and that is kind of more along the lines of the 100th episode... which actually I still do enjoy a lot... the fandom was the only suggestion to Vinyl and Octavia liking each other/ being friends, let alone knowing each other.... Trixie and Starlight literally met from a first base, they have never had an opportunity to see one another as a villain, only a new friend.... its not fan servicing its just good content, that actually makes a lot of sense..

I wasn't referring to Trixie.

I really did like the relationship and friendship she and Starlight had throughout the season.

Heck season 6 even made me a Trixe fan.

I was referring to the whole shoehorned cameos of Vinyl Scratch and Derpy.

I found that to be really distracting and super out of place.

the writers have also said that they have been forced to add stuff in, that they didn't want to.

Question that I asked at a con: How much to you take into account the target audience versus the unexpected audience?

Mitch Larson: I don't take you guys into account at all.  I was tasked to write the 100th episode, but I feel it was a mistake

Amy Rodgers: Agreed, and after all guys, you fell in love with the show that we wrote for kids.  why would we change the formula?'

Seems like at least some of the writers fight hard to keep the show on track, even while there are other influences that seek to cater more to us.

Sounds to me like it's a tug-of-war between the writers to determine how much the fandom influences them to include those references or to resist it completely.

No, there isn't too much fandom influence. In fact, I'm getting more annoyed by all the complaints at what little influence there is.

Slice of Life did what it was supposed to; for once, we got an episode that brought pure fan-service for entertainment's sake. It doesn't matter if it didn't have this captivating, world-building story that so many other episodes were providing in each season. And whether the writers wanted to do it or not is irrelevant. They took this fan-driven concept out of nowhere and managed to make something enjoyable from it. Complaining that it's a fan-service episode when you knew weeks ahead of time that that's what you'd be getting is foolish and shows how unappreciative you really are.

No Second Prances had enough substance and character development there for Trixie to make it one of Season 6's best episodes. How anybody can call Vinyl and Derpy's cameos anything other than effective is beyond me (in fact, I'm amazed those same people aren't throwing a fit over Vinyl running a dance club in Saddle Row Review). Twilight had next to no interaction with anyone outside the Mane Six, so she grabbed the first ponies she could find to keep Trixie from being Starlight's friend. That's why Celestia saw through her bullshit at the dinner. Yes, they were fan favorites, but it gets downplayed by the fact Twilight also invited Cranky. The randomness of having those three together highlight how desperate she was.

Seriously, the background ponies aren't going anywhere. The writers know how much people like them. If you're gonna take their appearances like a slap in the face, even when they serve a purpose, you've got issues to work out.

I'm not the one with issues. I just heard someone complaining about there being too much fandom influence in the show.

Well, yeah. That wasn't directed at you. It was a general statement

I don't think that's quite the right way to say it.

There are writers that seem to like the fan influences, and there are reviewers (I forget what the writers called them) that are on the side of less fan influence.

MOST of the stories of clashes with these reviewers were for things like:

Amy: "you freaked my frizz!" (pinkie suddenly gets an afro)

reviewer1: "wouldn't it be better if her hair went FLAT in this scene

(one rewrite later)

Amy: (pinkie's hair goes flat)

reviewer 2: "wouldn't it be better if her hair went into an afro?"

Yes seriously.  Maybe make more guest appearance and fandom influence to keep up with buban.  There is lot of character development and serious influence from fandom to show instead of show to fandom, to show that pony like Vinyl and Derpy are coming in to appease fandom wants/needs.  This is what show needs.  More fans and more fandom.  Even if shrinking lately due to influence of buban we can make it come back with much influence from fans to bring in fans and not just simple posers of show.  Real fans must speak up to bring influence to show and make sure that it cannot die a slow death like other show which ignore influence of fans.  Especially since we have actualy influence with money and income which to spend on show rather than small child which does not have influence only over parent which can say no to buy the product of the show.  This influence is most important so show creator must appease fans as much as possible to have as much fandom influence and maybe even more guest appears from real pony in real life into the show character.

How about your character to interact with Celestia, Luna, or Mi Amore Cadenza (Cadence of My Heart)?  I bnet it is sheer rush of joy to feel this way.  If know Dusty Pony, I bet that this pony feel that way when they insert him into show to be adored by fans worldwide, the true fans of pony.  This can compete with any other experience of life such as marriage or death or birth or childbearing such that to be on the show is the ultimate privilege that represents the true nature of the affect that fans have on this show.  Ponies forever, ponies forever, should be the cry that rings loud here.  The show must have more influence of fans!
