Hard in relation to what exactly? My skill or the other bosses in the game or series?

There are a good amount of games where nothing in them is even remotely hard except maybe when compared to a boss earlier in the game.

As for ones I've personally had trouble with I'll go with a recent one. Devil Survivor 2's final boss is pretty difficult. I guess they ramped up the difficulty after realizing how broken you could get in the first game making the last boss of that game mostly a cakewalk.

I never did beat it. It had three parts that all buffed each other in some way, such as allowing the main body to attack from any range. That's just the final form, mind you, so they have you fighting other demons and the boss for two phases before this. By the time I got there my resources were drained. Not that it mattered much when I retried it and had almost full HP and MP. I couldn't get to the body parts on opposite sides of the map to stop the buffs before the main body would pulverize my entire team as well as the pounding from the other two parts and demons on the map. Not to mention that the main body revives the other parts regularly so you would have to redo it all anyway.

I gave up. Too much bullshit.

Well, destroying 20 Metal Gear Rays in MGS2 on Extreme difficulty is quiet a challenge.

Generally time limited boss fights trough the included pressure beating it in time.

That first big robot right in the first mission on COD Infinite Warfare on Veteran.

The mothership in Black Ops 3 on realistic ... alone

probably more that are just not in my brain right now

Legends never die. Ponies neither.

now some of mine are as follows.

1: Sephiroth kh1&2 this guy oh my god in the first game hes invincible until you hit him certain number of times.

then he summons meteors later on in the fight those will reck you somethin' nasty.

in both fights he drains your health and mp down to 1 with the sin heartless angel attack.

if you aint fast enough on healing he'll kill you.

in #2 hes a little easier but annoying none the less.

2: musha and knight gundams from the gundam wariors games.

these two are crazy powerful and will proceed to curb stomp you into the ground.

knight gundam is the worst in the final fight of the 3rd game he is in rage mode for the whole fight he will destroy you.

musha gundam is a troll his defence is high so is his strength he can take a hit and uttlerly reck you!.

3: Lubu if you've played dynasty warriors you know how hard he is. nuff said.

4: sage mode Madara every fight with him: oh my god hes worse then sephiroth he hides in that bubble of his.

then when you even think bout tryin to hit him he goes ape shit insane on you.

not to mention the battle where you fight him as might guy(normal form) ooh boy this fight drove me insane!

Dark Souls is essentially a buffet of difficult bosses so there are a lot to choose from.

Ornstein and Smough, of course. The duo destroyer of playthroughs and personal will to live.

The Twin Princes. A two stage fight of brutality.

The Nameless King. While I have this guy down like a science, I won't deny his extreme difficulty in the grand scheme of things.

Gwyn. Now, I know he can be countered, that's no secret, but this dude essentially forces you to not block due to how much stamina damage he ravages on you. I found him to be quite the challenge, as I foguht him without counters whatsoever.

Those are some top picks of mine from that series.

The final Sigma battle from Megaman X is also quite the difficult battle. The X series as a whole has a huge issue with unfair difficulty in the final stages.

I mean hard as in personal experience .

Okay, when you say it this way, I have to add this one vault guardian from Starbound...

For those who don't know Starbound: vault guardians are the bosses at the end of a vault, which you can enter by using a key with a vault gate after defeating the "Heart of the Ruin", the endboss of the story quests.

Even if the PvE in Starbound is pretty easy (because Starbound is more about exploring than fighting), I always need help defeating this one special vault boss:

Ancient_Guardian.png

(at least I think that this is the one, I didn't play the game for a while now)

At the beginning the player can't do any damage to the boss. It creates a "minnion" and a sphere-like thing. The "minnion" will follow the player and do damages if it hits him. Now the player has to lure the "minnion" into the sphere-like thing without getting hitted by the attacs of the boss, and a energy bullet will be created. The bullet faces towards the player until it shoot itself towards him. The only way to damage the boss is to get between the bullet and the boss in time so that the bullet hits the boss and deactivates his shield. As long as the shield is deactivated, the player can damage the boss. That's the only way to defeat him, and I die every time I try it on my own.

So I had to defeat this boss with some friends, that was the only way to get his loot... I tryed to do it alone several times, but every time I nearly got him, he reactivated his shield (he reactivates it and spawn another "minnion" and sphere if the player don't kill him in time) and killed me. So yeah, thats pretty much my experience with this boss :D

I just can tell that, relatet to this boss, the other vault bosses are much easier.

Pretty much all of the bosses from Darkest Dungeon are a nasty surprise the first time you meet them unless you've got the right party composition by chance (or if you've read the wiki.) So although I beat some of them quite handily on the first attempt* there were others^ that proved incredibly challenging, to the detriment of my long-term interest in the game.

*neither the Flesh nor the Prophet were unduly challenging to the type of party I usually take

^the brigands' Pounders were an absolute nightmare

Participating in this RP can be agonizing sometimes.

  • Emperor Thaurissan (Hearthstone): He has an ability where if his wife dies (who only has 3 health and likes to be suicidal) he can instantly kill you the next turn.
  • Majordomo Executus/Ragnaros The Firelord (Hearthstone): Executus has a lot of OP cards that shouldn't be in the same deck, and by the time you manage to kill him he summons Ragnaros who has an ability to deal 8 damage to a random enemy (including you). Its crap cause Executus will probably nearly murder you so unless you're quick Ragnaros will kill you on his turn. I barely managed to one shot Ragnaros with a card I had stealthed the whole game.
  • Valestraz The Corrupt (Hearthstone): This boss just pisses me off, he has an ability that cost 0 mana that makes everyone draw 2 cards which eventually causes you to start discarding cards because your hand is full. Not to mention he has a lot of cards that do a lot of damage, and cost less depending on how many cards are in your enemy's deck... and the biggest middle finger he has 3 cards that cost 0 mana that instantly deals 2 damage to the enemy. To this day I still haven't beaten him...
  • Mechanical Bosses (Terraria): These bosses are just harder versions of the basic bosses, but they are no push over. Though now I have pretty good gear to where if all the mechanical bosses fought me at the same time they wouldn't stand a pray of a chance... but ungeared, one mechanical boss could be very troublesome. I have plenty of memories of Skeletron Prime murdering me every time I spawned.
  • Giant Mechs (Hulk Ultimate Destruction): First time you find them you have to fight four at the same time in an arena... these fuckers have a lot of health, and do a lot of damage if you aren't careful. After this mission they become one of the enemies you fight commonly... that is why I never beat this game, though maybe they aren't as had as I remember.
  • The Wither (Minecraft): Just summoning this boss is a bitch, as you need 3 very rare items that only drop from one of the hardest enemies in the game. Then once you're able to summon it, you need enchanted diamond equipment and lots of potions just to really survive. I managed to kill him... then of course after I kill him they add an achievement for killing him.
  • Custom Bosses (MGS PW): Nearly impossible to kill solo, and if your team doesn't have good gear it becomes very challenging.

The list could go on, but this is all I can think of at the moment.

  • Orphan of Kos (Bloodborne)- It took me 30 tries to finally put this guy down. Mostly, cause I'm not good with erratic bosses. I'm good at memorizing attacks, finding ways to avoid them, and striking at the right time. But, the Orphan of Kos's second form is so hard to determine when it's the right time, as he can kill you in 3 hits. And that fucking exploding shuriken attack is almost impossible to avoid. The only hope I had was visceral attacks, luck, and a lot of blood vials.
  • Laurence, the First Vicar (Bloodborne)- This dude's range is insane, his swipes take out half your health, and his second form's smash attack is just....ughhhh...
  • Ludwig, the Accursed One (Bloodborne)- The easiest of the one's I mentioned, but he's still insanely difficult. The second form is oddly enough a lot easier. But, his first form is so unpredictable and powerful. Not to mention, like Laurence, he doesn't have a spot you can shoot to stun him.
  • Buckethead Neptune (The Spongebob Squarepants Movie Game)- His first form is pretty easy, but when he breaks the floors, it's hard to avoid his lightning and jump gaps at the same time. It doesn't help that Neptune will restart his attack if he hits you.
  • Gyorg, Gargantuan Masked Fish (LoZ: Majora's Mask)- It's mostly cause of when he eats you, it takes 3 hearts away. Unfortunately, you need to go into the water as Zora to hurt him. Sometimes, you won't make it back to the platform in time, and he'll get you. Plus, you need magic to use Zora's shield against him, and guess where the magic jars to refill it are? In the water.
  • Twinmold, Giant Masked Insect- The Giant's mask takes a lot of magic, and when you do run out, if you didn't break a pillar, you're screwed. You can wait for Twinmold to break the pillars and risk your life to go out in the sand to grab it. But, sometimes it'll disappear before you can get to it.
  • Metroid Prime (Metroid Prime)- She/He/It is a nightmare for only one reason. The room before the fight. There's never ending fission metroids all while you're trying to climb up to get to it. Fighting these bastards can take up your energy and super missiles. And you need to fight them, cause if you don't, they will knock you off while you're trying to get up there. If you know what fission metroids are, you'll know my pain.
  • Boobeam Trap/Orb Room (Megaman 2)- You know what I'm talking about. That damn room where you have to use all your crash bombs to win.
  • Brohoof 2

I think Twin Princes are pretty easy for Dark Souls standards. Managed to put them down in two tries. Lorian was pretty slow boss, who often gave an opening between his attacks and Lothric didn't do much to increase the difficulty. Just few more dodges than in 1st stage :v

Nameless King though... that guy is a nightmare. I had to cheese him out with Havel Shield to beat him, that's definitely the hardest boss I ever had to face in a video game. His timing is odd and that was what ended my existance brutally plenty of times. I either dodged too early or too late.

But I heard Dark Souls just got new hardest boss ever known as Darkeater Midir. Consumes health bar covering half of Your screen in two strikes. I am already afraid of even coming close to that thing.

I guess I haven't practiced enough with them, for some reason they were a nightmare on NG+, gave me so much trouble. Nameless King is one I have taken a lot of time to getting down. So now he is easier than the Princes for me. The world is weird. :P

Midir sounds so very bleh. He sounds kinda cheap to be honest. :|

Midir is giant dragon, honestly I like the idea of him being unfair XD I can't imagine solo combat with a giant, angry dragon being a fair fight XD From what I saw his moves are very telegraphed though so winning is pretty much learning his pattern and adjusting to it. And watching his tail :v

I think Twin Princes can be problematic in 2nd phase for some, because Lorian's attack gets 2nd strike that is the very reason I died on 1st attempt. It's hard to get used to it. But somehow I wish I died more? I simply love the soundtrack for Twin Princes. But then entire soundtrack for DS 3 is among my personal favourites.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey had Mem Aleph, the final boss of the Law and Neutral routes, and...wow.

High stats all around, infinite MP...immensely powerful attacks of each element, 100% accurate insta-kill attacks of multiple elements, crippling status effects against the whole party...and her resistances constantly change.

And that's just her first form. Her second form has a new attacks that's a 100% accurate insta-kill...without an element, which means there's no equipment or ability that can block it and it HEALS her by the victim's full HP! And if your main character dies at any point in the fight, it's game over. That's right. Every turn, there's a non-negligible chance that you lose-outright. I hit the level cap at the end of a rather long game, but had to give up because the final boss was just that tough.

Oh, and as Panzy said...Boobeam Trap. Uuuuuuuugh.

A couple of Dark Souls bosses spring to mind. Ornstein and Smough, Fume Knight, Lord Gwyn and Smelter Demon, just to name a few.

Chairman Drek, the final boss of the first Ratchet and Clank, is still hard to this day. I've beaten him three times, and the only time that I didn't want to rage and throw my controller was when I went up against him with the RYNO. Macro Missile Massacre at its finest.

  • 3 weeks later...

- Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts: The way he appeared was pretty cool. Just his intro was enough to know he was a difficult boss. His combos and techniques were fast and confusing. I couldn't dodge out of the way and got caught in his combos. To this day, I could never defeat Sephiroth, but I could defeat him in Kingdom Hearts 2.

- The final Vergil fight from Devil May Cry 3: When you face off against Vergil in the other games, you can tell he is pretty difficult. Being able to deflect and have fast and devastating combos makes him threatening. When he goes devil trigger, he regains health and is faster and deals more damage. I was able to win, but I remember I had to go through two revive orbs. Even when I replay the fight, I still struggle against Vergil.

It isn't one of the hardest bosses in the history of everything, but for a Pokemon Game, the battle against the totem Wishiwashi actually took a while, and provided an actual challenge.

For me, hardest boss would have to be Jack Krauser from Resident Evil 4. I always run out of time and still couldn't put down That Guy. :eww:
