Why don't the princess's use their authority?

A Flurry Of Emotions is whatblead me to this train of thought. Why couldn't Cadence just order Sun Burst to take care of Flurry Heart. He's been seen taking care of her before. They clearly trust him. And Cadence is a freaking princess! It's not like he could refuse. Twilight on the other hand is also a princess. Meaning that yes even though Cadence is family she could still refuse. Also why did Twilight have to clean up the toys that Flurry Heart knocked over? She's a princess she could just leave and the employee couldn't do anything about it.

Of course it's absurd that a princess would do her own shopping in the first place. In real life their is the obious possibilty of assination. And why wouldn't she send Spike? Spike is very reliable and very loyal to Twilight. So he would be happy to go shop for her. Also Celestia has said previously that she hates the Grand Galloping Galla because of how boring it is. But Celestia rules Equstria. She could just cancel it if she wanted to! Or make it less formal. Or just invite Discord and the mane six and co from now on .that way it will be crazt every year! Or just have a party with Discord plus the amne six and co. Celestia you can do whatevr you want! So why do you complain when a party is boring?

Because if she did that we would not have an episode. Or a show to be honest.

Sometimes common sense is the bane of a cartoon show, and has to be put aside for the sake of entertainment.

Cadance, Twilight, and Celestia are "down to earth"-types, so...

P.S.: In the Root Of The Problem comics, Twilight should've still used her authority to, you know, arrest Well-To-Do for physically throwing a Princess out of his office more than once.

If the princesses were to use their authority, they would become characters the audience couldn't relate to, and could possibly be viewed as dictators. This kind of reality would go against what the show stands for and would deprive audiences of entertaining experiences that could only happen in Equestria.

i don't think twilight is the type that would make a mess and then say something like "im a princess. clean up my mess peasant!" :P nor use their powers for their own benefit.

sunburst has a duty to protect and care for flurry heart almost like 24/7. maybe they came to ponyville so that twilight could bond with flurry? since this is the first episode that twilight has been shown spending time with her like in the episode

Maybe because the princesses have no actual authority? They're essentially figureheads, diplomats and ambassadors but real power is vested in elected or nominated officials. Talking up Celestia & Luna at an event is more like talking to a celebrity than a politician. Why haven't we gotten an episode on why Mayor Mare hasn't been thrown form office? Because she still outranks Twilight in issuing orders for ponyville.

So perhaps the Princesses are like the Royal Family of Great Britain. Celebrities. Nobility. Figureheads. But having little to no power other than whom they employ or whom recognizes the weight of their authorities.

Maybe they are non-authoritarian.

All things that interact with the world exert a force. All things that exert a force have an opposite and equal force. Ergo, nothing immaterial exists [because where would the opposite force be without material as a medium?]. Ergo god doesn't exist immaterially. Also if the universe were infinite itd take infinite time for a god to make it. If it were finite it'd be subject to entropy. Which means an eternal god can't exist.

abuse of authority is what this all sounds like. Yes, they're princesses, but they want their subjects to have free will. If Sunburst has other plans, no amount of royal should keep him from that. What would it make the princesses look like, if they forced an order on a pony who didn't want to?

also, Twilight's a grown mare. If she wants to go shopping for herself, and feel like a normal pony- more power to her. She said in a past episode (soon after her coronation) that she wasn't different than anypony else, just because she was a princess. Why should she change, now, and have slaves do her groceries for her? If she wants to lie a normal life, even as a princess, she has the right to.

I like seeing them rule as a monarchy without an iron fist. Of course that only works because pony society is nowhere near as messed up as human society.

Cadence may have wanted Twilight to take care of her, as she trusts her the most and should spend more time with Flurry. If she left her with someone else, then Twilight would miss out on bonding with her, and it could worry Cadence more.

Twilight took Flurry with her because there is no one else to look after her, and she was the one to look after to begin with. Of course, she could have let Spike do all the chores, but Twilight is very particular, and probably wouldn't trust him with them. Besides, it's not like she knew it would be difficult.

What authority?  It is never clearly defined what powers, if any, the princesses have.  Although, I must say I'm surprised they don't have more servants.  Budget crunch?  Poor scheduling -everyone had their days off at the same time?
