Not all Furries are Bad

There's nothing wrong with furries. I can't believe that anyone these days would have any problems with them considering what IS deemed acceptable. I guess it's all in what's fashionable at the moment.

Every fandom is going to receive both positive and negative feedback regardless of the type or aim. Views change all the time. It usually comes down to the first impression. Majority of the negativity comes from people who experience the wrong side of the community or fandom. It's not always the matter, but it's common.

There's always going to be people who portray followers or the fandom as this or that. It's unavoidable, sadly, but it's what grows the community stronger.

What people in fandoms do behind closed doors is what they want to do - they're doing no harm to anything or anyone.

I think it's borderline hypocritical to hate on furries if you are a brony, or someone who gets off to cartoon horses. It may not be the same thing, but you still need a good look in the mirror and then come visit planet earth if you are here to hate on other fandoms.

I myself am a Brony who also likes non-MLP characters such as Rouge The Bat.

So consider that mirror looked-in.

I'm not a furry. And I sure as hell don't see myself ever becoming one, even though I do adore certain anthropomorphic animals in some media. Like Amy Rose. <3

I used to be a bit creeped out by furries but I think becoming a brony opened my eyes to accepting fandoms that are considered "weird" in the eyes of the general public. As a brony, I'm part of such a fandom. So who am I to judge?

well first off having "weird fetishes" doesn't warrant hate in of itself so regardless there should be no problem.

This is the type of thing I hear all too often and it's the wrong mindset to have. Like, for example, if you try to say "not all bronies are bad" because you're talking about the ones who don't clop, you're alienating a portion of people similar to you to appeal to strangers who might hate you for what you like regardless. You don't have to associate yourself with people who go down that route, but you don't need to act high and mighty like you're morally superior and therefore present furries or whoever as better and more acceptable to people aren't furries.

Well said, hating people for what they do in private is pointless. It doesn’t matter how weird a fetish is, if it isn’t an unhealthy obsession and doesn’t hurt anybody then it’s not an issue.

When I was in the cosplay scene some years ago, the group I was a part of also had a strong relationship with the furry community where performers from my group also performed as furries, and no one ever questioned it. I even made friends/associated with a couple of furries though those times have long since passed me now.

"Deranged people" doesn't fit very well within this "civilized debate" you've previously mentioned, does it? Implying judgment, which otherwise translates as ignorance, a lack of comprehension often associated with the "uncivilized". If anything, this "civilized" aspect comes off as a cover up for what ultimately lies beneath, our human being.

You are beloved either way, whether you are "bad" or "good".

as a retired fur, i have found it almost impossible to find a fur without a dark side/streak. be it behaviour and attitude problems or the obvious fetish side. 99% of the time its nice people i know and have hung out with for years, but they all have "dark secrets". Some shy about it, most pretty much show it on AD twitter accounts or Furaffinity. Or even pounced.

I have my dark sides i will admit, but im just grumpy most of the time as opposed to being a bad member of the fur fandom. im certainly not shy from explaining my dark side. heck i get commissioned to draw a loooot of bad stuff, doesnt mean I am a bad person does it? im pretty chill.

I had the phase of drama/flame war center, but ive long since outgrown it.

Most of them are fine, it's only a small minority of them that are terrible.

And even then, most fandoms are pretty bad anyway, so I don't think it matters, plus there's MUCH worse out there, especially when it comes to the Internet.

There isn't and it would be shut down if it was targeted flame bait. The only time there is an issue related to Furries and Bronies is when someone tries to promote the idea that all Bronies are Furries by default. Not only does that message bring out the few (and it is a minority) people that believe Furries are gross - it has the effect of pissing off people who are otherwise indifferent or even supportive of Furries.

But no, in general most non-furries on MLPF are either supportive or simply don't give that fandom much thought since it isn't in their sphere of interest.

You'll have the occasional saber rattler, but they are certainly not a majority here. Me? Like most fandoms I find Furries facinating, and I know more than a handful and am friends with a few.

I'd say that the Furry fandom and the Brony fandom are sibling fandoms but not the same.

And in my experience Bronies/Pegasisters and Furries get along fine!
