Do you think Flash Sentry gets more hate than he deserves?

I don't think so. I think his character sucks, because not only is his character flat, but also because he is annoying.

Yes, I honestly do.

I get that he isn't the most well written character in FIM, nor is he that great of a love interest either, but with the amount of vitriolic hate he receives from the fandom, you would think he killed their dogs or something.

What really gets me is when a character like Marble Pie who shares a lot of the same problems such as being a one dimensional stereotype with no personality outside of being cute and shy, and had a "romance" with Big Mac that literally just consisted of them blushing awkwardly around one another and stammering around, which if I recall is a pretty big reason why the romance between Flash and Princess Twilight is hated, yet somehow Marblemac despite possibly being incest is able to get away with it.

That ticks me off a lot, especially given his Friendship Games short and Legend of Everfree expanding upon his character a little bit, given him significantly more personality and depth than Marble Pie has ever had.

At this point after everything is said and done, and people have spent hours of their times written gigantic essays on why how he is one of the worst characters in the history of forever and doesn't deserve any sort of sympathy whatsoever, there is literally nothing new anyone can criticize him for.

The only new thing you could actually say about him would be that you like him.

I wish some people could just shut up about their massive hate boners for the poor guy.

He's a really poorly written, bland and forgettable character. I couldn't care less about him and I don't see why anyone would waste their energy actively hating him XD

He's not a good character but honestly the hate has gotten to the point where people are just obnoxious over their hatred towards him. Not to mention, double standards, and how much fans will fawn over other characters with even less character than him *coughmarblecough*

I think he got a bit creepy in Everfree - First sorta-hitting on SciTwi then, after being put straight by Sunset, hitting on her too...

No real reason to hate on him though.

Nah. Flash deserves all the hate and probably more. He is a walking, talking cliche that is a perfect teenage boy that exists purely as a random love interest. Instead of it being part of his character, his entire character is defined by that trait. So he is rather blech.

I don't care that much about the character, but I find it to be as good as any tertiary character (right there with the principal and vice-principal).

Maybe people don't like their "ponies" to be flirted on, but I actually am surprised that only him and Timber are actually acting as teenagers towards girls, being at a highschool setting and all.

He was, but  the hate has died down considerably. It can pass months for me to stumble for some Flashy hate, and even the Anti-Flash Sentry group in Fimfiction has lost activity. I even think two of my fav fic writers hated him for making him a villain in one fic, but used in a more positive later (one where's he's the main character even), not to mention I've seen a decent amount of new pro Twi/Flash shipping art in derpibooru .

Still, he's mostly ignored rather than hated now

Still, I think Starlight is the one who's getting is the one getting that flak by a part of the fandom, while Flash's was more memetic and funny at least, to the point of being the reason for me being a fan of him

Yeah definitely. 

And the sad part is that there was nothing that could really be done about it. The writing staff of EqG have confirmed that they had a tight deadline to get the screenplays and scripts done and edited to fit a 75 minute movie, while also including prerequisites from Hasbro. They had no time to make Flash a fully fleshed out character and that's kind of a shame, cause there was some potential. 

If Timber Spruce could be made into a proper love interest type, then the same could've happened for Flash, had EQG 1 not been rushed out the door.

Truth be told, while I'm not a big fan of his character or anything - in fact, I did think his role in the first movie and even the second to an extent could get a little cringey at times (it was likely only in there because Hasbro wanted them to) - when you get down to it, there's really not much to be said about him. And that's basically why I feel like he's overhated; there's not much to really bash other than the fact he's uninteresting. Besides, I think more recent installments have made an effort to add more to his character, which I think at the very least deserves some credit.

I just got into the show a few months ago and wasn't aware of the general hatred precisely because it's mostly ignored nowadays.

He was created as a means of providing Twilight with a romantic interest but they just left it at that for the first movie. As such, Flash was hated and given the distinction of being someone who steals people's waifus. In Rainbow Rocks, he was portrayed as being both nervous and clumsy in hopes of making him less like a stereotypical jock but he was given further hate because of that one scene involving tears. Friendship Games did nothing for him but Legend of Everfree finally gave him the character development he has been lacking since the start. I'd say he deserves to be given a chance now that he has proven to be a good listener and can help deal with certain problems. I know some will still hate him because it's fun for him but I think he doesn't deserve it anymore.

However, Flash Sentry isn't really that bad of a character, IMO.

 He just needs a bit of development beyond the cheesy lines & getting rejected all the time.
