I call upon the power of @Duality!

I just noticed this while looking back through the last few pages of this thread.

I have failed you, small one.

I have failed you.

Ah, you see, here's your problem: you're too polar. Life should not be seen as either good nor bad. It should be seen logically. The glass is neither half full nor half empty. Rather, the glass should be seen as twice as large as necessary.

Yet, even within the scope of that worldview, the gross excess of volume the glass is characterised by can be seen as a bad thing, possibly even metaphorical for the gross socioeconomic excess Westernised cultures perpetually promote through all forms of advertising and the all-too-common shallowness of our personalities (the water) compared to the scope of our possessions (the glass itself).

I propose that we should restrict our considerations of the glass and the water to the fact that they exist, and thereby pretermit further teleological analysis.

EDIT: However, I reserve the right to pessimism. Being only ever either proven right or pleasantly surprised is too good a state of affairs to pass up.

As much as I agree with your statements, I'm struggling with depression, so I'm trying to not be pessimistic right now. It's not an easy feat...

My particular brand of pessimism involves expecting the worst in order to thereby appreciate the best all the more when it comes around. It's more of a 'not taking anything good for granted because everything good is a gift' outlook than the all-too-common 'the worst is imminent everything good will become as dust' nonsense.

My sincerest apologies if my arguments in favour of pessimism pushed you down the latter path.
