So is anybody else enjoying this show as much as I am?

Critics hate it because they can't define it. It's not really a comedy though there are jokes, it's not a Star Trek parody, it's closer to "homage".

To me it's like Star Trek with real people, not the more "perfect" characters we got on Trek. It has great effects, interesting aliens(I hope the slime guy becomes a permanent thing.), and deals with the same kind of issues Trek did. A lot of people who worked on Trek shows are even working on this. I'm betting it'll turn out to be much better than Star Trek Discovery. I just hope it stays on the air.

Yes, I am also enjoying the orville.  Last night's show was so apt when it comes to places like fimfiction, reddit, etc -- everything is that green arrow up and red arrow down.

I love it very much, the show gets really serious, but there are amazing moments of comic relief that makes it rather uplifting. My favorite part is I get to see Seth MacFarlane as a bad-ass.

It's a way better Star Trek show than anything "Star Trek" that has been around since the Abrams reboot. Yeah it has some very over-the-top humor, but IMO most of it seems pretty "realistic" for lack of a better term. A lot of what is funny about the show is nothing I wouldn't expect to see while working on a ship (either in space or on modern Earth), just with a more sci-fi spin. But the themes of the episodes are very mature and rival the best of classic Trek. I'd be perfectly fine with Orville becoming the new standard. NBC and Paramount have dropped the ball too many times IMO (though maybe their new Picard project will change my mind).

But... the reason I found this thread, was that I just had to see if anyone else had a good laugh about it. I was shocked to see that nobody did. Am I the only one who is happy to see that someone finally gave the Smooze a role in regular live television?
