Should I make a ponysona (or whatever it is called to make your own pony) or stick with Rainbow Dash? Because I want one but I really like my avatar.

I'd highly recommend creating a ponysona, it's great fun and shows off your creativity. But that doesn't mean you can't keep the avatar (which is freakin' awesome BTW), but if you create one, i'd change your username; Dash can be pretty unoriginal

Why not create a personalized ponysona of Rainbow Dash? Then, you can have (who you think is) best pony while having something original as your avatar! Perhaps a vector or raster art of RDash with rainbow paint on her cheeks?

Yeah, I'm sure you could come up with a ponysona and still keep your avatar. After all, I just took a pic that crossed Derpy and Batman with each other, and created my entire Batbrony ponysona outta that; I will say it's fun to be a Derp Knight every once in awhile.

I say go for it! It greatly enhances the experience of interacting with other bronies to have something of a "face." Just like in Jungian psychology how the persona is the face we put on for the world, the "ponysona" is a face you can ware for the internet. It can be fun to have an idea of what you'd look like if you ever got the chance to actually go to Equestria and it says a little about yourself as well. People choose their breed for different reasons for instance. MandoPony chose to be an Earth Pony because he thought it was cool to get by on natural strength and skill. I chose to be a Pegasus Pony because they appear to be the most militant of the three (the most numerous of the Royal Guard we see are pegasi and the pegasi tribe under Commander Hurricane appeared to be a Stratocracy.) and I'm training to serve in the Army so it fit. Not to mention one's cutie-mark, which can be a personal in joke to some bronies. All in all, it's just a way to mark yourself as a brony that doesn't cost you anything but time and imagination.

I think whether one does or does not is entirely up to them. I am working on one. Personas are really not my thing no matter what fandom I'm in, but this one leaves the door open for anyone who wants to create one and there's a great Pony Creator on dA that can be used to help you make your own ponysona.

 

However, if you're not interested, then don't. No can make you create a ponysona. Only do it if your heart is into it.
