Is Equestria the last bastion of Harmony in the universe?

Equestria is a very powerful land/world (disclaimer: When I see Equestria I mean the planet, not the country) It has a strong force of friendship/harmony that can ward off even the most powerful other worldy foes like Discord. Harmony and the magic of friendship are one in the same and it is the most powerful magic in the MLP universe, but it is possible that Equestria is the last world with harmony, that the universe is drowned in Darkness and our lovely equines, fierce dragons, strong Yaks, and happy changelings the only thing left with light inside of them? I think it is certainly possible if you look at a few factors. One of them being Discord himself, he is not native to Equestria, is is the spirit and manifestation of chaos itself and hails from his own dimension, seeing as how he brings up the universe in casual conversation, and has access to every reality and non reality, that means he can go to any world in the universe.

Yet he chose Equestria, because that is where the Elements of Harmony were, that was where any harmony was left, that was where he could actually fulfill his purpose of bringing disharmony, because it is the only place left with true harmony.

The Pony of Shadows says "Once I extinguish the light, and hope of this miserable world" You could assume that means he is only after Equestria and screw the universe. Or, you could look at in a different way. Perhaps the shadow had already destroyed the light of all other worlds, and was somehow defeated before landing on Equestria, where it waited for a pony to come to it, so the shadow could take over, and destroy the last world of light.

In Legends of Magic #1, Luna opens a portal to another world, and it is ridden with darkness and evil beings who want to use the evil inside of Luna for themselves, they also seem to know what is going to happen with Nightmare Moon, the same way it is implied the Tree of Harmony and the magic of Harmony itself knew that there was a greater purpose for Twilight. Starswirl says many worlds are evil. I think that during that time, most worlds were being devoured by creatures feasting off of the "light" of every world.

"Many of those worlds contain evils worse than you can dream. Evils that have devoured the light of their own world, and hunger for a taste of a new world." -Starswirl

I think this could imply that these "dark beings" (potentially controlled by "The Darkness" were going from planet to planet and destroying the light within them. Now very few worlds not shrouded in Darkness remain. And the only one with the power to stand against the darkness, is the world where the light shines the brightest in every pony, Equestria. I think that the light the pillars have and used to create the tree isn't so much their light magic, but the light magic of the universe being used to create a conduit for the lights power, so that it could one day gift a pony of destiny, Twilight Sparkle, and her friends. With the power to destroy (and sometimes reform) darkness for good.

That sounds like a very cool idea... that unfortunately belongs in a different franchise. Unless, of course, they did something like this in a movie sequel, the movie had some dark parts to it.

I don't think it is too dark for MLP. The Shadow made it very clear it wanted to consume the light of Equestria, may of the stories in the season 5 finale were darker than this idea. It would only be too dark if we like, saw some of the happy creatures on other worlds, but keeping what those worlds were like before the darkness came vague would make it more suitable to all viewers.

The thing about MLP is it has these dark undertones, but it constantly skirts around them and leave it mostly up to viewer interpretation. The season five finale was the darkest it ever got, with King Sombras war being the most blatant. It really does depend on how the show addresses it.

But I feel like the show, season 7 especially, has been getting into more dark and complex plotlines and overarching stories, and the LoM comics seem to back up this greater universal threat.

I still think the Season Five finale was the darkest the show has gotten. Season seven had the whole “extinguishing the light and hope’ thing with the pony of shadows, but we don’t know what that means, or even what the consequences of it would be. Back during the first few seasons people thought Nightmare Moon’s plan of eternal night would doom all life in Equestria, but we saw in the season five finale that wasn’t the case. It’s hard to judge the level of threat a villain poses if we don’t see what the results of his actions would be, not when Equestria doesn’t follow the same rules our world does.

I agree that the s5 finale was the darkest 2 parter, I mean season 7 has a whole has been darker and more complex in certain episodes.
The line "you won't remember any of this" could imply he was planning on making them mindless servants of darkness, considering he also says they will bow to him.

Maybe, though he did follow that up with what could have very well been a murder attempt.

It's not the last bastion anymore necessarily.  It seems to be making inroads into the EQG world at least.  I like the idea of a larger game going on with Harmony increasing its reach.  Discord is an interesting case.  A lot of his actions have been critical in making the Tree stronger...

EQG is entirely another dimension, a parallel universe that the tree is connected to, I am talking about the core MLP universe.

Since MLP has dimensional travel and no space travel, the difference between alternate dimensions and other planets in the core plane/dimension/universe is irrelevant.

No, they are two very different things, in the canon Legends of Magic, they open a portal to another world in their own universe. Mlp also only has dimensional travel to the Eqg world unless Discord is involved.

The difference is big, EQG will never fully cross over with the main series so if anything, EQG is irrelevant in the grander story of FIM aside from the Sirens.

Still, it is just as possible then and Equestria and the EQG world are the last places of their respective universes where darkness hasn't corrupted, or close to the last. Harmony has a strong connection to both.

I don't know, sounds too much like Destiny. Plus, do we know darkness is evil? What we do know is that ponies are extremely prejudiced towards anyone that doesn't roll over and accept their cult teachings. After what we learned about the Proto-Mane 6, can anyone honestly believe anything in the ancient pony texts and teachings is true?

Unholy shit, did I just outfriend Meghan. Get rekt!

Destiny has a generic story, and the darkness in it is barely even talked about now, but I suppose there are similarities I didn't think about like...everything. Still though, I think this would be a fascinating route for MLP to take.

Well, FIM is full of generic stories, so there's that. If I was darkness and my only opponents were a bunch of selfish and ignorant sentient horses who cannot go five minutes without doing bad things to each other over trivialities like friendship problems, I'd be rolling my dark ass on the floor.

That aside, let's say we get darkness in FIM. Do we explore it? Do we give darkness its interesting characters? Or do we go the route of disembodied evil that whispers dumb phrases about crystals and shit? I wanna see compelling yet irredeemable villains with great marketing potential and all the perks ponies have like Rainbow Power, Map, and other I-win bullshit. Let Darkness stand against Harmony as its eternal equal. Make it funny and cool in its own evil and dark way so it can actually be utilized to its fullest potential.
