Stardust 642 June 5, 2020 Share June 5, 2020 (edited) All stereotypes limit ppl and suck. A long time back I remember my spanish teacher although his presentation was a bit meh talked about how stereotypes affect the way we see people. They don't have any useful purpose :3 And to add there are a immense variety of different people out there.Stereotypes hide what people really are and people turn to them to be lazy and stop using their rational thinking. You need to take all factors into account when analysing a situation, when you generalise by one category you miss out on the big picture. It's like saying you are a brony so you are this and that blah. Stereotypes aren't even always based on generalisations and just ideas people spread. Gender stereotyping is also what stops girls getting a good education and the root cause of gender violence. Edited June 6, 2020 by flurry
Pentium100 2,253 June 5, 2020 Share June 5, 2020 Stereotypes do not come from nowhere and are not, by themselves, bad. However, forcing a person to fit the stereotype is bad. It just so happens that on average men and women behave slightly differently, have slightly different physical abilities and have slightly different interests. I think that the stereotype is useful if it is mostly correct. Again, as long as people are not forced to fit the stereotype. If someone who does not know me applies some stereotype about me, I am OK with that, as long as the person changes his opinion when I correct him. Lucky Bolt 35,106 June 6, 2020 Share June 6, 2020 Depends on the stereotype I guess. I don’t find all of them to be bad. 1 ☆ My socials ☆
Kamii 596 June 6, 2020 Share June 6, 2020 If they're used for comedy, I am ok with it. If you legitimately believe them, no.
Splashee 28,581 June 6, 2020 Share June 6, 2020 I don't really look for stereotypes. If I notice something that is too much, and it is not a joke, I do think about it in a negative way

ExplosionMare 18,106 June 6, 2020 Share June 6, 2020 They’re annoying but fun to study (I’m also a person that loves writing reverse-stereotype characters cause I like seeing things like masculine women and feminine men just to have a change) Boom! The Historian 516 June 10, 2020 Share June 10, 2020 Gender stereotypes aren't generally based on falsehoods and often have a small amount of truth to them. That said, they're not for everyone and society at large needs to accept that not everyone fits into the same fucking boxes. All men don't need to do X thing just like all women don't need to do Y thing. Statistically, they will but embrace the outliers. They're not weird, just different. KatonRyu 1,033 June 11, 2020 Share June 11, 2020 Basically, if someone wants to follow the stereotypical gender roles by their own free will, let them. I only dislike them when they're being used to measure someone's worth as a person, for instance considering someone as being somehow wrong for liking things not stereotypically associated with their gender. Stone Cold Steve Jobs 22,471 June 12, 2020 Share June 12, 2020 I hate all stereotypes always, not just when it conveniences me to do so. 1 And that’s the bottom line, ‘cause Stone Cold said so!
