Where do you think MLP will be in 5 years?

New gen and new wave of merch. There will be a segment of us that focuses on G4 as our personal favorite due to the intangibles surrounding it. Other than that, I honestly don’t know.

Of course, MLPForums will be different by then too! You think you’ll still be a staff member then?

In 5 years we'll be G5 or G4.5... I'm still not 100% sure which, as the whole number generations are driven by the toylines and I'm not convinced any of the 'next generation' designs floating around are toy-able without vastly increasing manufacturing costs or compromising the designs even more than G4 did at the beginning.

Any case, I'll still be here. Probably futzing around with some other software that hasn't been written yet for making pony stuff. :)

In five years? I'm sure the current generation will continue to flourish as a lot of people don't want to give up on it despite the inevitability of generation five. Me? I intend to stay here for as long as possible in my position as an Event Coordinator. As for generation five... who really knows what the future holds.

I personally see a reboot just to bring in new characters or something to say that happened many years later after the original mane six. Kind of like passing it on to a new generation where they each represent something different to the mane 6 (loyalty, honest, etc). Just making an assumption here.

This is a really good point. Like exceedingly good. One of Hasbro's struggles with the recent Star Wars films is that the movies and scenes and designs aren't very toyetic, and that the general tone of some of the films actually limits play scenarios based around the films. Knowing this, some suspect that Hasbro has scaled down the wow factor of the vehicles making them smaller knowing that the new films don't appeal to children as much, but still knowing that they have to keep their commitment to the license. What does this have to Pony? Hasbro has full control over MLP as they own it, so I do expect that any final designs of the show will be as play time friendly as possible.

That said, Hasbro has been a driving force behind the rapidly diminishing toy isles that once flourished in the 70's and 80's with unique IP's. Since the 90's it has been all about licensed properties, and modern Hasbro has made some really bonehead decisions on their own when they have had full control. Where are Micronauts and M.A.S.K? Where is a decent push for GI Joe and Transformers on television? Any serious toy collector looks at Hasbro as their own enemy and unaware of how to leverage their internal properties.

I'm never sure how to predict how a fandom or show will evolve. I'm going to be sticking around as long as possible though. There's never been a show to affect me in such a magnificent way! I do hope the eventual G5 is good. I'm sure G4 will always be my favourite, but I'd still enjoy a good G5.

Trixie got her own 3D Mega Man X video game (Starlight is Zero and Sunburst is Axl) whose Sigma equivalent mechanized Twilight to be a recurring boss (halfway through, Twilight is restored to normal and becomes permanently playable. When replaying levels [you can fight the bosses as many times as you want in one playthrough], stock Twiborgs are fought in Twilight's place).

  • 1 year later...

With any luck, G5 will be in its prime, the fandom will start growing again, and we'll start getting more conventions (if covid ever fucks off).

Realistically, probably not much different. If G5 ends up being a flop, it probably won't even last that many seasons, in which case the fandom will probably continue on as it is now. I'm trying to remain hopeful, but the only way to know what G5 will be like is to wait and see.
