Have you ever noticed that the vast majority of Scooby Doo fans (and Warner Brothers) treat Scrappy Doo like he's the worst thing to happen in the history of entertainment? Why does he get so much flak?

Because he's one of the most annoying and unnecessary additions into the Scooby Doo lore.

The character honestly just feels like some kind of afterthought to me to be honest.

Yeah, I'll agree with that. He was way underdeveloped when introduced into the series. Given more development, he might have been a good addition.

He was created as a means of boosting falling ratings. At the time, back in the late 1970s, Scooby-Doo was experiencing poor ratings, so the decision was made to introduce a new character that could appeal to a younger audience, and help improve ratings. Scrappy initially proved successful at first in this regard but Hanna-Barbera made the mistake of making him the main focus. It also didn't help that they essentially removed Fred and Velma from the main cast--Daphne was also removed yet came back later.

I have no clue why scrappy has all the hate.. last time I remember he seems to be the only one with more of the common sense compared to Scooby doo and shaggy despite of his rash personality but hey better than Scooby dum...I guess the live action  movie ruin scrappy by having him as the villain.

You answered your own question. Scrappy Doo IS the worst thing to happen in the history of entertainment! That creature is a blight on the good name of Scooby Doo!

I once saw most of an episode of Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo and found him to be pretty annoying. In fact, my browser crashed with about 5 minutes left and I decided not to bother getting the episode back. But from what I've seen of his later appearances, I honestly didn't mind him. This is just my personal opinion, of course, but I feel that if he was more like how he was in his later appearances from his debut, he might have been better received. First impressions are everything.
