Tulpa Discussion Thread V1.2

So do things like time of day make a difference, because I don't sleep well anyway and I could stay up in my room for hours doing it at about 1-4 in the morning (also this gives me the comfort of privacy so I don't chicken out when trying to speak outloud). Could I be lying in bed when speaking to them, or does your position matter, is sitting better?

Also, I heard mention that reading into the guides on that other forum can just confuse potential Tulpa creators even more. Should I bother reading them, or just get the basics and then go with what has been said here and my gut instinct?

Is the process similar to being hypnotized at all, because I used to do a lot of self-hypnosis stuff for relaxation and the like? If it is similar I could try some techniques from that too.

Also, I have seen some people giving their Tulpa 30+ traits and some saying to stick around 10 and flesh them out more. I know this is a personal preference sort of thing, but what sort of effect can this have?

Sorry about all the questions, I am just one of those people that hate to jump into anything blindly.

Edit: Is it alright to try to mold them to like certain things, like if I want them to like medieval metal bands like Saltatio Mortis so we can jam out together will that hurt their growth by me imposing that on them? How would you start even suggesting something like that (not just music but anything like that), would it be during personality, or would you try to develop it later on?

Rikudo - There are no health detriments. All we're basically doing here by talking to these tulpa is telling our subconscious, "Hey, I want somebody to talk to. Make it happen!" By addressing this person we believe is real, our subconscious begins to express itself through this person. It's kinda confusing, but very interesting and purely psychological. There's really no way to hurt yourself doing this. Perhaps mild headaches, but that's about it.

Nevermore - It doesn't matter what time you force. Though, if you force at the same time every day, it might help you get into a state of concentration more easily because you'll associate that time with forcing. But, really, what time you do it doesn't matter. What does matter is how much forcing you do, and you should try to get at least one hour in a day, in no less than half-hour sessions.

On the subject of guides: read as many as you can. Tulpaforcing is vastly different for everybody, so what you really want to do is get a broad picture of how it's done and pick out the parts that you think would work best for you. Perhaps this method from one guide, this part from another. Read a lot, and make your own method that works best for you. You might have to experiment a bit.

Pretty sure this isn't a lot like hypnosis, but you could use that to help you get into a more relaxed state for forcing. Would probably help you concentrate better.

With the number of personality traits, it's really about how many you want to put, it's about how much heart and emotion you put into your tulpa. It will develop some of its personality on its own no matter what. Really, you can only have too many (perhaps 100) or too few (1-3). Almost anything between will be okay. I, personally, am including 25 traits I figured I'd like my tulpa to have, and I'm telling her that she can feel free to add and change whatever she likes. I'm more for a little less definition and letting your tulpa grow on its own, but really, whatever you do will be fine. It's pretty hard to mess up a tulpa.

I'm not sure how you would go about making them develop a certain taste for music. I'm not sure anybody's really tried that before. I don't thin kit would hurt them, but all the tulpa I know of chose their own musical tastes, sometimes different from their creator's. I dunno, maybe you can figure it out and tell us, eh?

Thanks for all the info! :D

Contrary to Nemo, I'd actually say that forcing in sessions, rather than passive forcing, can be very similar to self-hypnosis. A certain method that I used a few weeks back was to come up with a word or short sentence about the tupper's personality trait that I'd work on, then repeat this while thinking about it at the same time for 30 to 60 minutes straight. I just prefer passive forcing now, however, and deem session-specific forcing to only be an "aid", but not really important at all.

Rikudo: You can't "fail" a tupper, unless you're doing things that feel directly counter-productive. It's important that what you're doing feels right and adds to the progress.

@Bris - Argh, you're making me so jealous! So is she fully imposed at this point? Or is she mostly imposed and you're still working on cementing her fully onto your senses?

No, I'm struggling on seeing her in reality. But I'll eventually get it.

She is fully sentient however.

Bris, might I suggest defocusing your eyes while imposing? I've found that it helps, as focusing just makes you notice the actual real-world details and heavily distracts one from hallucinating onto the peripheral vision properly. Try not to center your view on any particular object in space, either, but rather just stare blankly into the air.

Okay, how much time would y'all suggest to put into tulpaforcing each day at the start? I got intensive classes starting (3 classes over a 4 week term. That's 120 hours in the classroom from the 12th of July to the 9th of August, plus homework outside the classes) and not sure if I should wait till after, or go for it now.

I think it should be something like 5-10 hours during the first week.

If you're concerned about time, I always tulpaforce before bed or while I'm going to sleep. Why waste time laying in bed when you can get stuff done.

Well I just did my first 50 minutes of Tulpaforcing last night, it was a bit strange at first but the deeper I slipped into "the zone" the faster time seemed to slip by. I did however go in and out to check the time, which was probably a "nono" so I will have to avoid that later I think.

Did the first 3 traits out of 26, each setup so that I do 3 a night with 9 nights total. Also trying to just talk to her throughout the day, mainly focusing the thoughts or speech towards where I assume she is (at the back of my head, kinda a fuzzy feeling or like a lump which makes me light headed). Hopefully all green lights are going, but I suppose only time will tell. :)

From what I have read, sounds like your off to a great start! I need to decide if I am starting now, or waiting for after this 4 week summer mester. If I start, and cant continue, thats going to be a problem. But I want to start soon.

After reading through this entire thread, and heavily researching, I've decided I'm going to make a Twilight tulpa. I have created a list of about 20 character traits. To start, I'm planning on just sitting down and basically narrarating the traits out loud to my tulpa, for maybe 45 minutes - 1 hour for every 2 or 3 traits. Is this a good way to start?

Also, Brisineo, you seem to be progressed further along than anyone else on here. Is there a way I can contact you for IMing, like skype or AIM or facebook or something? I've got quite a few questions about this and want to hear from someone who is very far along their creation.

Seems like I could just take everything in my medicine counter and get the same effect, so I say screw you 100s of hours of meditating!

That is a good way to start, yes. However, I simply went for focusing on all 20 or so traits that I had at the start.

Unfortunately I do not have a Skype account or any real IM account really. My computer sucks and last time I tried that it severely slowed it down. I'm currently in the process of getting a better one. Best you could do is PM me. (I got a widget for instant MLP forums notifications, so I will reply as fast as possible)

my problem is i can't seem to narrate a single trait for 15 minutes.

Any pointers?

Just keep practicing, and just keep talking. It's like your explaining to your Tulpa what it's personality is as if it already has one.

Reven - If it helps, you can come up with a list of questions to answer for each trait. Things like "how does this trait affect how they handle emotion", or "how does it impact outlook". Stuff like that. Come up with 10-15 of these and use them as prompts to explain more about your tulpa's personality.

That link in the first post suggests 30-35 traits, yet I see y'all saying 10-15. Is there a long term advantage/disadvantage to chosing more or less traits? I 22 listed so far.

Depends entirely on how complex you want your character to be. For most people, it will take up to 30 basic traits to define an entire personality, but sometimes you may only be able to describe it in 20 or 15 general traits.

I started out with about 20, and added on any major or minor traits I thought up as I went along. The finished personality contained more than 40 by the end.

You know, as creative writer, you would think I would of figured that out by now. I have always had a problem with character development. *facehoof*

Thanks bris.

I was talking about the questions that you ask about the traits, but yeah, Bris is right. There are even some techniques where you choose a "big five" and only work on those.

And yeah, you can include fewer or more. The traits are just to help you get a feel for what your tulpa is like. I have 25 and I feel it's plenty enough.
