Bronies, hive of child molestation

I’ve stumbled upon this video alleging there’s a strong culture of pedophilia within our fandom.

it would be really disappointing if that’s true :sunny:

Glass of Water...He always comes up with controversial topics such as this in an attempt to leave bad tastes to the community. You also saw in the video that he attacks other pony analysts with these things, like what he did to the Fiery Joker one time which was UNACCEPTABLE. I would suggest staying away from these sort of videos as this 'bad apple's' goal is one thing: Stirring up drama.

Are there pedophiles who watch MLP? Given how popular the show has been since its debut, I'd say yes. But I'd say pedophiles would watch any show they enjoy and participate in those fandoms like anyone else (from Game of Thrones, to Star Trek, to Steven Universe, etc.). Are pedophiles in the MLP fandom a problem? Personally, I can't say for sure, but I haven't heard of such cases except for ToonKriticY2K's (which left a bad taste in everyone's mouths).

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that the MLP fandom has pedophiles in their midst, but so does every other fandom in existence. All we can do is be aware of that fact and point out any case we are aware of, to not pretend said people don't exist "for the good of the fandom".

It is definitely an overstatement, unlike what he says It is definitely not something unique to our fandom but regardless it is still a real problem and real action needs to be taken, I must agree that bronies seem to be too darn open about pornography, we get given a hard time for liking the show and it's cool to be steadfast, open and proud, but.. not that proud.

I think he highlights some legitimate problems within the community, but his over exaggeration and hostile tone does nothing to help the situation.

The fandom is not a hive of child molestation, but considering how large this fandom is there are bound to be a few.

I find this whole idea ridiculous. There are bound to be child molesters in one of the largest fandoms in existence... I've yet to hear of more stories of it than I can count on my hands, perhaps even If (hypothetical, would never do this) I cut a couple of fingers off each of them.

And why should we care to take a word from a youtuber over a scientific status? MLP or not, molestation will always happen just about anywhere.

This is pure nonsense. You could make the same claim for any television show ever broadcast. Data manipulation can make anything seem true. Think about this.

The vast majority of people in prison have eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Does this mean people that eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are criminals?

NO!

Never, ever take anything you read or hear on the internet at face value, I always say...and I definitely say that now with the source here being Lily Orchard. Oh my goodness, her reputation has been rightfully over since she sent people to attack joshscorcher and Dr. Wolf, and I am not kidding you, she used to write foalcon before she suddenly decided that she was some kind of moral guardian against pedophilia. She doesn't want to take responsibility for being the one who burned her bridges with the fandom, which is why she keeps underhandedly mongering drama like this. :yeahno:

Ok, never heard of this youtuber until now, but well, she appears to be full of BS, right ? I mean, the existence of pedos within our fandom is not my biggest concern, but downplaying their crimes is. It’s not practiced that much.... right ?

You're...surprisingly innocent for someone who's been on this site and part of this fandom for a long time. :P Look no further than the ToonKritic situation if you want to see how we handle pedophiles. The instant we learn that there is proof that someone in our fandom is a pedophile, regardless of how reputable they are, we do everything in our power to distance ourselves from them and ensure they are brought to justice.

We've had this accusation held against us from the beginning of the fandom, and it is the same with the furry fandom, or any fandom really. Society will go out of their way to ostracize and alienate people in a fandom with accusations of pedophilia etc simply out of ignorance and not understanding. And yes, there are a select few in the fandom that will give off the impresion, but unlike in the furry fandom, here in the MLPFandom, the act is acknowledge and called out. Those who were once friends with the perpetrator will distance themselves from them but still acknowledge that what happened happened and usually with some proof to back it up.

It goes back further than that. When homosexuality was a huge taboo, it was synonymous with child molesters too.. In some places, the two words were synonymous. With every "deviation" from the norm, the same assumptions get slapped on. MLP just makes it slightly easier because it's focused on children's entertainment.

I agree. I couldn't get through one video of theirs, even when trying to keep an open mind. People like Glass of Water are not the kind of people to learn manners from

Is Glass of Water the annoying pony featured in Fame and Misfortune?

I think the animators or whoever was in charge of choosing which ponies would be incidental to the story likely wanted to make a well-deserved jab at that Real Life Critic by putting a pony with a glass of water for a Cutie Mark as one of Fluttershy's unfair detractors.

Fluttershy gave a pretty badass speech about not everyone changes right away and takes time to fully go from a shy pony into a more confident and assertive pony.

This is why despite the unpleasantness of the episode, this is surprisingly one of the harsh but true looks of the ugly side of fan dumbs and critics. It's how you handle those kinds of people that really matters.

There probably are some bad apples but you can find bad apples everywhere so there's no reason to group the general community up because of a few individuals. It's sad to see that the community is still being generalised by people, sad times.

Well, GoW's history aside, I have just read though this thread after seeing a post by @Monado_Dash and...

TATF.png.55786ab7e28c1ac876a22566217b1302.png

If the thread is true (and I am not doubting it) it makes ToonKritic look like a plaster saint.

The lawyer thread on the case is so large, it literally broke twitter (first it was threadzilla, now apparently it is the threadnaught)

The post I made debunks the thread

Debunks that bit, at least. But the thread claims the guy vanished then was found in his hotel room with an underage girl, banned from the conference, then the management overruled staff and brought him back.  Presumably its statements like that (and that "more than 100 individuals had made accusations of assault, that the allegations were corroborated and that [there were] mounds of testimony") that are actionable as purported statements of fact, so will be the focus of the lawsuit he has running against them.

switching away from twitter, there are articles like this:

https://www.theverge.com/2019/9/18/20870541/vic-mignogna-metoo-accusations-defamation-lawsuit-anti-slapp-laws

https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2019/09/06/in-animes-metoo-moment-vic-mignogna-a-no-show-at-tarrant-county-hearing-and-his-case-is-mostly-an-unholy-mess/

https://io9.gizmodo.com/one-of-anime-s-biggest-voices-accused-of-sexual-harassm-1832390505

Still, trial by media and by twitter can often be misleading; we will have to see how the court case comes out, given that will be a more formal procedure.
