gaming Jonke vs Tich - Pokémon battle!

So Tich and i got influenced by the entire pokémon trend on the forum and we decided to do a real showdown between us. x) So first best of 3...... (6 of the same Pokémon)

The only exception we had was move combinations, you were not allowed to have the same moveset or very similar on more than 1 pokémon.

I failed miserably when i rushed my team creation... ability which reduce stats instead of increasing (Contrary).. made some serious damage to myself instead. x) Ice beam killed me.. bad mistake to try defend against it. Also evolution > non evolved.

 

 

Anyway.. it was really fun.. so i will save this thread for future battles. =)

Yes, it's not really balanced. I made a few mistakes when i created my team, also 2 misses in a row made me lose control of the second battle.

Yea, I saw the Contrary thing. I never even knew that existed, though, it could have worked in favor.

Anyway, it was fun to watch them!

I couldn't tell if either of you did this, but y'all should have given them all different roles! Make one Vaporeon physical wall, one physical sweeper, one special sweeper, etc. That would have been awesome to see :3 especially Vaporeon physical sweeper XD

Yes, it works in favor of Leaf Storm since the original decrease Sp.Atk but with Contrary it will increase Sp.Atk.

I actually had a few roles but they got quickly wiped out because of my Contrary failure,Tich's Ice beam and Pre-evolved form.

Another thing I'm wondering is whether or not you could do a calc to see how fast and how much Sp. Atk you'd have to have to sweep a Vaporeon team completely. With Contrary, all your really need is for one leaf storm to land and to be fast enough. I can see a special sweeper Snivy sweeping Vaporeons everywhere, even if it's pre-evolved Choice Scarf, some Speed Evs and you're ready to go!

Yes i could've swipped his Vaporeon if i had the opportunity to pull off 2 Leaf storms in a row.. since its power increase every time i use it. Sadly his Roar counter combined with Ice beam, took me out by surprise.

They were, but it truly depends on initial base stats. I may have chose for poor Special Defense on all my pokemon not truly realizing that Snivy was mostly special attack, although as you can see in the video, the higher Defense on some did save me from Leaf Blade a lot.

Why not have a forum tournament? There could be Gym leaders and I suppose the mods could be the elite four, though I'm still not sure how many mods we have and how many of them have/are good at pokemon.

Buy a crap ton of Irons/Proteins/whatever item you need to raise the desired stat. Granted I still haven't done that. I don't see the point of EV training if your just playing through the game normally.

It isn't too bad for me. Without an Action Replay I usually do something else that is easy to multitask. With an Action Replay I usually fight some high level Pokemon/legendary. Those battles are awesome!

 

Thinking of fighting the same Pokemon over and over.....I wonder if some of them has ever gone near extinct thanks to EV training?

Magikarps are gods. The only reason splash does nothing in the games is because GameFreak knew it would be too OP. Plus Magikarps can jumps over mountains.

About this forum tournament thing, which seems to be the new topic of the thread: would it be a Wifi thing, or would we use a simulator? If we use a simulator, might I recommend http://play.pokemonshowdown.com/? It's still in beta, but it's probably the best sim I've played on. It's browser based, so unlike Pokemon Online, there's no need to download a client. This is totally something we could do.

 

About all that EV training stuff, I have zero problems with it. If I'm going with a 4/ 252 / 252 spread, I give the ten vitamins in the appropriate stats, give it Pokerus, give it a Power item for one of the stats I'm maxing, then battle 19 Pokemon that give EVs for the stat that doesn't get EVs from the Power item. That's one stat maxed. Then I change the Power item, go battle an Audino or something for the 4, and battle a bunch of Pokemon that give EVs in the remaining stat. If I'm training, for example, 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Lucario, I'd give it a Power Anklet, ten Protein, ten Carbos, and Pokerus, then battle 19 Lillipup and Patrat on Route 1, give it the Power Bracer, battle an Audino, then finish off the Atk with Lillipup and Patrat. It's really not as hard as some of you are making it out to be, although I do have Pokerus so :V
