general media What makes a bad writer?

Example. Some will say Star Wars 3 had bad writing. Which was the only movie in the series i liked. Since the rest of them has no plot and is just pew pew laser swords. And thats why i hate them. It has no build up, or no point in being movies.

So i tell you what. Since Big Bang Theory has good writing. The real problem with George Lucas movies is he didnt have the writer from Big Bang Theory. And there you go. If it has good writing then it means a movie or tv series is good.

God bless the writing criticizer online. Not like they say it out of petty reasons or anything. Basically i notice if a game doesnt have some boring dad simulator or is not a boring TV Drama. Then apparently that makes it bad. So having anything remotely fun or cool like Sonic games. Bad writing apparently. Cant have that :)

You use different shows/movies/games in your examples. It is a little bit difficult for me to follow what you mean.

Also, is it a good thing nerds get to hate, or a bad thing?

Star Wars 3? I assume you mean "Revenge of the Sith"?

True. It was only Star Wars movie i liked because it had a legit plot and a goal. The other is more just action with nothing happening. May aswell be Michael Bay movie "though for some reason i prefer Michael Bay movies over that"

Honestlu, I can'v allure understand this post - I guess someone who doesn't care about bad writing won't have veri good writing of their own.

So I'll just answer the title - no, uou're wrong. Not about Star Wars 3 (it is cool), but rather that writing qualitu does matter. All else equal, well-written stuff is more enjoyable. (Of course, then you get into the thorny question of what makes good writing...)

Are you asking what makes a bad writing vs good writing in a term of movies?

I'd say it's quite subjective depending on one's taste. Although there's an obvious sign of bad writing. Hence I took some script writing classes to know the differences.

Bad writing

  • If the dialogues are too "on the nose".  Dialogue is what helps the plot moves smoothly and gives your characters a voice. Adding subtexts and individualism to each of their voices, without making them sound cliche or blend is what makes a good dialogue.

  • There are three acts to writing plots for a movies. Act I - Setup: Exposition, Inciting Incident, Plot Point One. Act II - Confrontation: Rising Action, Midpoint, Plot Point Two. Act III - Resolution: Pre Climax, Climax, Denouement.  Just as long these goes hand on hand like step by step (without skipping any of these steps) you'll eventually end up a good story-telling. The one thing movie is shown to have bad writing if these steps are to be ignored or rather rushed without a reason why except because "hell I ran out of ideas". In other words, sometime writers get lost in their own works or falls in inconsistency and often make the mistake to BS at the end because they can't come around it.

  • Actor/actress/director/producer/camera, editors, music ects: Even if you have achieve a top-notch script, it all falls into the hands of these people. How  can they executed is the main questions. Should they either fails to executed or not, well it's all on them in how they want to perceive it. If you're good story teller and then you will end up a good movie. If not, then that would obvious. What I consider a good storytelling if it shows the plot is building up with consistency and if characters plays their parts to carry out the story well without being out of character.

  • BUT even if you have achieved a top notch movie, then you got the Production company your movie’s under to deal with. Sometime they’re the main reasons why movies fails because things they EXPECT to get  added or remove and most of time, they makes a bad call.   And movie workers have to follow these conditions otherwise... you can kiss your movie good bye.

I hate movie industry..

He's trying to say that George Lucas is a bad writer and the writer of the Big Bang Theory is a good writer.

And to be fair, Lucas is a bad writer. A New Hope, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were all plagued by bad writing because he all wrote those films. Rewatching a New Hope a couple years ago had me cringing with how bad the writing in that film was.

Here are some common set of signs of writing going bad that I noticed among several media.

  • Suddenly at one point, the number of characters doubles. (usually the mirror counterpart of the protagonists.)
  • And they are all boring.
  • The slow pacing starts causing cancer.
  • Protagonists starts doing weird s**t and now thay are all boring too.

Sigh. You know that some people actually enjoy "bad writing". a poorly written movie does not necessarily equal unappealing. I quite enjoy all the hokey writing of the Star Wars saga it makes it much more memorable even after many years.

Personally I think subjective opinion is more important than objectively good writing. Because everyone is different and each have their own opinions on what appeals to them or not

I rather write what I want even if it's bad writing. As long as one person had fun reading what I wrote, I consider my story a success.
