resolved What's wrong with my screen name?

Yeah, the thick names look odd.

It's because the font there has changed after the recent update. Namely, the font weight is bolder, thus takes more space, which pushes that last "Y" down, due to the name not being able to fit in a single line.

That is why that happens. There's nothing wrong with your name in particular. :P That's just something coming from the recent forum update. Many things appear different than they were and not everything may work as it should, but things are being fixed/changed with time. I agree super-thick usernames look bad and, at least at the moment, contradicts with current group formatting. For example, my name hasn't changed (aside smaller by 2px font size), why? Because the group I'm in makes my name colored and bold, which overwrites the now even bolder weight that comes "by default", should the weight be not specified in the group formatting. So yeah, I believe it indeed is something they should look into. SB2bpHO.png

Spoiler

Hmm this used to be in forums.css, right below .cAuthorPane_author { ... }

.cAuthorPane_author strong {
    font-weight: 500;
}

Now it appears to be gone, which causes "normal" names to inherit thickness. Pa6CktV.png

The site is working again, but the Y still drops to the next line.

Imma fix that again now.

Oh! I just saw that a pending change to the code went through that separated some of the smaller viewport code. I'm not seeing any change to the name though when I check. Are you overriding the font or font size with your browser?

NUTS! My poor vision has foiled me again! I have my computer set a bit oddly, so I have an easier time reading. As long as everyone else sees my name right, that's fine!

It is not on user's end, I see it that way too.

The usernames are super-thick after the update and many names ended up barely fitting or being split. Also the stylization from user group formatting is gone from tablet and desktop views (meaning staff/donor/etc. names are colored only on mobile). The formatting was present when this thread was created, now it isn't. Pa6CktV.png

Generally it appears, that the upgrade removed a chunk of css that used to set the font weight exclusively for names to 500. Now the names inherit Nba8t0g.pngboulder --- 0CHh6vQ.png I mean bolder (bolder than bold) weight from somewhere else, due to being wrapped in the <strong> tag.

I restored desktop and tablet postContainer back to its defaults which is why the name is now #000000 for all individuals within the non-mobile postContainer. I've tested this in more browsers and machines available to me, and none of them reflect textwrapping of the display name. Is this happening on your screen when you switch to the IPS theme?

image.png Just letting you know that I'm seeing the same thing, and I'm set up on the MLPForums Default theme. This is in Chrome and Edge.

IE is displaying quite differently, with the reading pane taking up the whole screen, with no background visible on either side, No separator between posts, no signatures, etc. But the cuteycindyhoney isn't dropping the y to the next line.

I don't have Firefox or other browsers set up on this machine to test those.

@Rikifive @Fhaolan can you switch to the IPS default theme and see if it is still doing it?

All other themes aren't available for me (no option in the footer), so all I have is the default frontend theme.

I am not one of them, but I still see the problem, using whatever theme is the default (how do I even switch them?).

Tried Chrome and Firefox (not logged in there) and in both cases the "y" is on the other line. Stretching the Chrome window to almost 1920 pixels wide does not help.

Okay. Using low tech solutions now because I suspect that it’s my high res screens (and @Lavo’s) that made it hard to detect.

Let’s see if I can adjust it slowly
